Atomic Lab (https://atomic-lab.org/) at the National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories, Boston seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow with a background in AI, data science and bioinformatics. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing technologies utilizing AI and data-driven approaches for human immune response monitoring, disease prediction, and identification of protective responses for infectious diseases, particularly COVID-19 and influenza. The role involves the application of state-of-the-art software development methods, machine learning, and AI techniques to high-dimensional data to perform integrative and exploratory analysis. The project aims to develop tools that can leverage immunophenotyping data, such as single-cell cytometry data with transcriptome, proteome, and clinical data, to gain insights into the human immune system and protective immunity. A key part of the role will be to investigate how pre-existing immunity correlates with infection or vaccination outcomes to identify an immunological signature associated with protective viral immunity.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a project on developing a novel AI platform engineered and utilized the platform for defining novel correlates of protection to various vaccines and infectious diseases.
  • Acquire, process, integrate, and standardize large datasets and build databases.
  • Perform integrative and exploratory analysis of multi-omics datasets and apply machine learning methods to decipher immune responses to infections and vaccines.

Selection criteria

  • Ph.D. in computer science, data science, computational biology, systems biology/immunology, bioinformatics, or other related fields.
  • Strong track record of productivity, as evidenced by first-author publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Considerable experience in (A) developing AI algorithms or (B) data analysis and handling ‘omics’ datasets –  transcriptomics, proteomics, cytometry – evidenced by a portfolio including R scripts, published R packages, or contributions to open-source software projects.
  • Proficient use of R language, alongside machine learning and AI, with extensive experience in data analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge and skills in using Linux, Git, Docker, PHP, Python, MySQL, MongoDB, and familiarity with other programming languages such as JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Excellent communication skills, evidenced by oral presentations at internationally recognized conferences.
  • Have background knowledge in immunology.
