The John Allwright Fellowship (JAF) provides scientists, from partner countries currently or recently involved in ACIAR research projects, with the opportunity to obtain formal postgraduate qualifications at an Australian tertiary institution. The main aim of the Fellowship is to enhance scientific research capability in ACIAR partner country institutions.
The JAF program is the largest investment in the ACIAR Capacity Building Program. It provides PhD and master's by research scholarships to agricultural researchers, administered through the Australia Awards system. ACIAR provides additional pastoral care and development opportunities to strengthen the leadership skills of participants during their scholarship to help bridge the gap between study and the next stages of their careers.
There are approximately 38 JAFs studying in Australia at 18 universities across the country.
In its Gender Equity Policy and Strategy 2017-2022, ACIAR committed to achieving gender parity in its Capacity Building Program by 2020. In line with this commitment, women now comprise at least half of the new JAFs.
Completing a PhD or master's is a significant undertaking. To ensure that our fellows have the best possible experience studying in Australia, ACIAR offers additional scholarship support through the following activities.
JAF Support Facility (JSF)
The JAF Support Facility provides tailored support to JAFs throughout their scholarship journey, such as additional pastoral care and facilitating networking events. This is a free service each new JAF is automatically entitled to. In 2019 the first cohort of JAFs began the new John Allwright Fellowship Executive Leadership Program (JAFel), a learning program that aims to bridge the gap between study and the next stages of our Fellows' career development. In the program, JAFel provides learning opportunities to strengthen leadership, people and communication skills, finance, and project management topics. Delivered by the UNE, the fellows undertake a 10-day intensive workshop followed by a period of online and applied learning. Visa/Mobility Requirements
What are the visa requirements for the scholarship?
Awardees need to have a Student visa (subclass 500) to travel to and study in Australia. Awardees who hold dual citizenship must apply for their visa and travel to Australia using the passport of the eligible country for which they have received their JAF Scholarship.
Awardees will need to meet the Department of Home Affairs’ financial, health and character requirements and demonstrate that their intention to stay temporarily in Australia is genuine.
Awardees must ensure they have a valid passport and visa for the whole time that they are on-scholarship.
Awardees must apply for their visa as soon as possible after accepting the scholarship, and ensure they read the information on the Student visa (subclass 500), and the various requirements on the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs website:
How long to visa applications take to process?
The Department of Home Affairs (DFAT) advises that in some circumstances applications may take up to three months. ACIAR will provide you with further visa advice once an offer has been made.
Can I bring my family with me to Australia?
Yes. You will be asked to indicate your accompanied status (accompanied or unaccompanied).
Health insurances and visas will need to be organised for any family members accompanying Awardees to Australia. For more information, see blow.
What are the visa requirements for accompanying dependent family members?
Awardees must declare all dependent family members on their visa application, even if the family members do not plan to join the awardee in Australia.
An awardee’s accompanying dependent family members must have a Student visa (subclass 500) in order to travel to and remain in Australia for the duration of the awardee’s study.
Awardees are responsible for the visa application, including all costs associated with the visa requirements for their dependents.

La bourse de recherche en biologie de la conservation des plantes est décernée chaque année à un praticien, un universitaire ou un scientifique exceptionnel en début de carrière travaillant sur des questions liées à la conservation des plantes et des paysages au sens large. L'objectif est d'offrir aux étudiants diplômés avancés, aux post-doctorants et aux professeurs débutants un séjour prolongé de 2 à 5 semaines sur le domaine d'Oak Spring pour entreprendre une écriture et une réflexion indépendantes, loin des exigences quotidiennes de leurs autres responsabilités. .
Il s'agit de l'un de nos quatre prix les plus prestigieux et il comprend une subvention individuelle de 10 000 $. Prix

Sélection

Purpose
The Plant Conservation Biology Fellowship is awarded annually to one outstanding, early-career practitioner, scholar or scientist working on issues related to plant and landscape conservation in the broad sense. The goal is to provide advanced graduate students, post-docs, and beginning faculty with an extended stay of 2 - 5 weeks on the Oak Spring estate to undertake independent writing and thinking, away from the day-to-day demands of their other responsibilities.
This is one of our four most prestigious awards and it includes a $10,000 individual grant. While at OSGF, the fellow will be able to meet with staff, explore our 700-acre landscape and our efforts in sustainable land management, and visit our rare book library that holds over 19,000 objects, including many examples of botanical art. The Fellowship is well suited for individuals working on writing projects that require dedicated time and minimal distractions.
OSGF intends to award the Fellowship to an exceptional plant conservation biologist whose research shows remarkable promise to contribute to the conservation of plants, and the landscapes of which they are a part of. The Fellow will be scheduled to visit when there are other Interdisciplinary Residents or Fellows on site. This scheduling will allow the Fellow to join in communal meals, and optional activities and field trips with other artists, ecologists, researchers, or scholars working on projects related to OSGF’s mission. Beyond time to develop their projects, a Fellow’s typical day at Oak Spring might include a walk to enjoy the landscape or birds; an appointment to visit the Oak Spring Library; and/or a morning spent volunteering at the BCCF or in the formal garden. These optional activities provide Fellows time to learn from, and interact with our staff. None of these activities are required, and we understand that some Fellows might want to spend most of their time in their writing or working independently. We support and enable Fellows to use their time as they best see fit. At the culmination of their stay, we encourage, but don’t require, Fellows to give a 20 – 30 minute presentation with time for questions, to Oak Spring staff and any other Fellows, Residents, or program participants who might be on site.

Award
The $10,000 individual grant associated with this award can be put towards travel to and from OSGF, materials and supplies purchased for their Residency, and other items that will support their work, before or after their stay at OSGF.
The selected Fellow should make travel arrangements to Dulles International Airport, where Oak Spring will arrange ground transportation for them to our estate in Upperville, VA. The Fellow will be housed in a nicely appointed shared accommodations. The fellow will have a private bedroom and bathroom, and share a living room and kitchen with 1 – 3 other Residents or Fellows.
Selection
Fellows are carefully selected through a multi-round review process in which OSGF staff, Residency alumni, and external jurors review and score applications. Fellows are ultimately selected by panels of external reviewers who are established and working in fields or practices relevant to OSGF’s mission. The primary criteria for scoring applicants include: an applicant’s current work’s relationship to the OSGF mission; potential of applicant; and quality of work samples.
Due to the high volume of applications we receive, we are unfortunately not able to provide individualized feedback to applicants who are not selected for a Residency.

The position. The Page Laboratory at the University of Connecticut Health Center has an immediate opening for up to two postdoctoral candidates to study eukaryotic signaling enzymes, with a focus on the function of phosphatases that form large signaling complexes and phosphatase drug/inhibitor complexes. We use integrative structural and cell biology to tackle research problems in cancer, development and the immune system. All studies combine cryo-EM, NMR and/or X-ray crystallography with biochemical and cellular experiments, allowing postdocs to augment their training in cutting edge new techniques.
Applicants. Motivated applicants with strong backgrounds in biochemical and cell biology methods, and especially eukaryotic protein expression and/or CryoEM and protein crystallization, are encouraged to apply. PhD is required.
Laboratory alumni are highly successful, with either their own academic faculty positions at tier 1 research institutions (i.e., Vanderbilt University, Dartmouth University), are directors/chief scientists in big pharma and biotech startups, named prestigious public policy fellow, among others.
The laboratory. The Page laboratory is housed in a newly renovated ~250,000 sq. ft. research laboratory in Farmington, CT. The laboratories are open-lab-space facilities and allow close interaction with the adjunct structural biology and molecular/cell biology groups at UConn Health. The Page laboratory is equipped with all necessary infrastructure to produce (E. coli, mammalian, insect), purify and analyze proteins and protein complexes (ITC, SPR etc.) and crystallization robotics for crystal production (Art Robbins Gryphon LCP nano-liter crystallization robot; Art Robbins CrysCam) as well as all needed equipment for cryo-EM sample preparation and data evaluation.
Facilities. UCHC facilities include a Bruker Venture D8 system (IμS Diamond source) with a Photon III M14 detector and cold stream is available for crystal screening and data collection for in-house data collection, synchrotron access at NSLS-II, SSRL, Diamond and high-field NMRs (Bruker Avance Neo 600 MHz and 800 MHz NMR spectrometers). Cryo-EM instrument includes a TFS Vitrobot IV and a TFS Tundra/Falcon C) that allows for rapid screening of auto-grid/clipped samples of sample conditions. Access to Krios instruments for data collection is readily available.
UCHC. UCHC has a welcoming, collaborative and vibrant environment for structural, biochemical and translational research. Farmington, CT, is located in New England between Boston (90 min.) and New York City (90 min).

We will use multidisciplinary approaches including cell culture and both acute (AAV-injected) and chronic mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease Candidate will be responsible for performing all the experiments proposed for this project, including mouse learning memory behaviors, Western blot analysis and qRT-PCR, quantitative histology and RNAseq analysis. Perform research in mouse tauopathy models to test OTULIN inhibitor compound in different aspects of neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration (e. g., tau protein modifications and degradation), behaviors, and quantitative histology.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a Ph.D. on Molecular Neuroscience or Neuropharmacology. Preference is given to a candidate with fresh Ph.D. degrees (within 1 yr of graduation). Should have prolific experience in studying molecular and cellular mechanism of neurodegeneration.
Prior scientific background in Alzheimer’s disease, inflammation and dementia research is strongly preferred . Dr. Ryan Dhindsa’s lab is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to work on an NIH-funded project. The Dhindsa Lab integrates human genomics, single-cell multi-omics, and stem cell models to advance precision medicine. We place a particular emphasis on understanding mechanisms of neurodevelopmental disorders and other brain illnesses to identify more effective and targeted therapies. We apply cutting-edge technologies in our research and are dedicated to mentoring the next generation of scientists.
The postdoctoral fellow will lead innovative research projects focused on studying the molecular convergence of neurodevelopmental disease, including autism, intellectual disability, and epilepsy. Almost 30% of genes implicated in neurodevelopmental disease encode transcriptional regulators including chromatin modifiers, transcription factors, and RNA-binding proteins. It is likely that many of these genes converge on shared downstream pathways, the identification of which could dramatically accelerate drug discovery. To identify these pathways, the postdoctoral fellow will use human iPSC-derived neurons and cutting-edge approaches, including single-cell RNA-sequencing (perturb-seq), chromatin profiling, and electrophysiology assays.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Postdoctoral Research Associate would join the Northeastern group for its research with the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at the CERN laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland. The position will be based at CERN.
The Northeastern CMS group has leading involvements in the operation and upgrade of the endcap muon system as well as the operation and upgrades of the electromagnetic calorimeter and the Level-1 trigger. Physics efforts include searches for phenomena beyond the standard model, di-Higgs boson studies, and precision electroweak and QCD measurements. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the upgrade of the CMS endcap muon system, as well as to take a leading role in physics data analysis. The candidate will also have the opportunity to work with Ph.D. and undergraduate students.

Job Description
The newly established Wildfire Technology Hub @ University of Nevada, Reno invites applicants for multiple postdoctoral fellows to conduct research in technological and scientific aspects of Wildfire Engineering across the different Pre-Fire, Active-Fire, and Post-Fire domains. Our goal is to develop new capabilities for stakeholders to effectively prepare for, respond to, and recover from wildfires. We seek dynamic individuals with a knowledge of fire science who are willing to work within a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced research and development environment, learn new skills, interact with stakeholders, and produce high-quality research and technology products. The positions are part of a cluster hire in support of the Hub. The candidates will interact with other research teams at the Hub as well as faculties at UNR and other partnering institutes and agencies. The Hub is committed to postdoctoral mentorship and supports independent career development for successful candidates.
The individual will contribute to the development of novel technological platforms for integrating spatial and temporal information, harnessing remote sensing data, using climate information, and running near-real-time wildfire simulations to design and assess various scenarios for obtaining feasible risk mitigation and emergency response solutions. We seek candidates with strong analytical and scientific capabilities to effectively contribute to physical modeling in a realistic spatial and temporal context at resolutions relevant to the problem needs. The candidate will develop new approaches for linking landscape, fuel, weather, and wildfire characteristics into a versatile and user-friendly computational platform. In the post-fire domain, the candidates will link wildfire behavior with post-fire ecological consequences affecting landscapes, man-made, or natural water bodies. Specifically, we seek modeling capabilities for assessing how post-wildfire runoff, smoke deposition, altered vegetation and hydrology, and targeted restoration activity affect functioning and shape recovery.
The position duration is one-year and is subject to renewal contingent on funding availability and acceptable performance.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Engineering, Physics, Ecology and Forestry, Earth Science, Computational Science, or related fields.
- Ph.D. research experience in wildfire engineering, fire science, landscape modeling, or related topics.
- Experience in working with big data.
- Excellent English-language communication skills (oral and written).
- Demonstrated ability to perform research and publish results in peer-reviewed literature.
- Completion of a doctoral degree in the appropriate discipline is required.
- The doctoral degree must have been completed within the five years immediately preceding the first date of appointment as a postdoctoral fellow at the University.
- The individual cannot have held previous positions in the professional ranks.

The postdoctoral scholar will complete comparative genomic and population genetic analyses to help identify the genetic basis of adaptations in maize and its wild relatives. This position will be part of a team being assembled in the Hufford Lab that will contribute evolutionary analyses to the "Circular Economy that Reimagines Corn Agriculture (CERCA)" project. The CERCA project spans >20 research groups and seeks to build a new, higher yielding and more environmentally benign ideotype of Corn Belt maize by incorporating adaptations from diverse varieties of maize and its wild relatives.
This is an exciting opportunity to conduct basic evolutionary research and see this applied to help address agronomic challenges in the face of climate change. The postdoctoral scholar will receive training in genome assembly and annotation, comparative genomic analysis, and population genetics. Interaction with the broader CERCA group will provide additional professional development and networking opportunities.

Job Description
The Biosciences Center at NREL has an immediate opening for a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher position. The researcher will work on projects supported primarily by the US Department of Energy to explore microbial means to stimulate or enhance geologic H2 production and investigate subsurface microbial interaction with H2 and rocks/minerals. We are seeking candidates with experience in geomicrobiology, microbial physiology, microbial ecology, and related fields. A multidisciplinary background in microbial cultivation, molecular biology, microbial community composition analysis with hands on experience in microbial culture sampling, isolation, and related field work would be ideal for this position.
The successful candidate will:
- Work safely and independently in a laboratory setting.
- Plan and execute research independently and in collaboration with other researchers from NREL, academia, other national labs, and industrial partners.

PROSTAMET est un réseau doctoral (DN) immersif qui, grâce à la mise en place d'un pipeline translationnel complet et modulaire unique, vise à exposer les doctorants de haut niveau à la chaîne de recherche complète, depuis la découverte moléculaire de pointe jusqu'au développement de médicaments innovants, tout en se concentrant sur le potentiel clinique sous-exploré de l’altération du métabolisme lipidique dans le cancer de la prostate (PCa).
Les candidats peuvent choisir parmi 9 projets de doctorat interconnectés, tout au long du pipeline de recherche.
DC1-3 générera une carte complète et spatiale des changements dans le métabolisme lipidique dans le PCa. DC1 (KU Leuven) utilisera des technologies de lipidomique spatiale de pointe pour cartographier les changements métaboliques lipidiques dans le PCa. DC2 (IPOPORTO – U PORTO) vise à mieux comprendre l’effet des facteurs épigénétiques sur la reprogrammation du métabolisme lipidique et son implication dans le développement de PCa à haut risque. DC3 (KU Leuven) développera et appliquera des outils informatiques basés sur l'IA pour intégrer les différentes couches d'informations moléculaires et structurelles des différentes plates-formes spatiales et autres plates-formes omiques.
DC4-6 explorera les acteurs clés du métabolisme lipidique en tant que biomarqueurs et cibles potentiels du CaP. DC4 (Inserm – Université Côte d'Azur) étudiera le rôle de la PGC-1α dans l'oxydation des acides gras en relation avec l'agressivité du PCa. DC5 (Université Clermont Auvergne, UCA) explorera l'impact de la captation des HDL via SCARB1 sur l'agressivité du PCa. DC6 (CNRS – Université Paul Sabatier-Toulouse 3) étudiera le rôle des adipocytes de la moelle osseuse dans le recâblage du métabolisme lipidique dans les métastases osseuses du CaP.
DC7-9 se concentrera sur le développement de sondes et de composés ciblant le métabolisme lipidique dans le PCa. DC7 (Università Degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale) se concentrera sur la caractérisation biochimique et structurelle des protéines cibles du cancer de la prostate pour le développement de composés inhibiteurs. DC8 (UNamur) identifiera des composés et des peptides actifs sur les protéines cibles du cancer de la prostate, également en ciblant sélectivement leur état oligomère. DC9 (Università degli Studi di Perugia) se concentrera sur la conception et la synthèse de sondes fluorescentes structurellement liées aux oxystérols. Les sondes joueront un rôle déterminant pour élucider le rôle joué par les récepteurs X du foie et d'autres cibles liées à l'homéostasie du cholestérol.
Chaque doctorant (DC) interagira étroitement avec d'autres DC afin d'avoir une vue d'ensemble de l'ensemble du programme de recherche et effectuera un détachement interdisciplinaire ou intersectoriel complémentaire bien sélectionné d'au moins 3 mois au total avec co-encadrement par l'établissement de recrutement et par l'établissement de détachement.
Le DC recevra une bourse d'études de 36 mois pour couvrir ses frais de subsistance. Les candidats intéressés peuvent postuler pour un maximum de 3 projets de doctorat, en indiquant l'ordre de préférence. Les candidats doivent soumettre les documents suivants :
