The Health + Life Science Alliance Heidelberg Mannheim is looking for outstanding junior scientists, including clinician scientists, for bridging projects between two or more Alliance partner institutions. Suitable candidates may choose from a wide variety of innovative, interinstitutional projects proposed by project leaders of the Alliance. Alternatively, applicants are also welcome to define their own research project with at least two PIs at different Alliance partner institutions. The priority area for support is basic and translational research in the areas of cancer research, cardiovascular research, neuropsychiatric diseases, genomics, synthetic immunology, molecular engineering, medical technologies, and novel applications of AI approaches in health and life science research. Candidates must hold a PhD, MD or MD/PhD degree at project start.

Interinstitutional Postdoctoral Positions (f/m/d)

What we offer:

  • Accepted fellows will be provided a 2-year contract at an Alliance partner institution with earliest start date in August/September 2024.
  • Clinician scientists will receive 12 months of funding from the Alliance for the research project over a period of 24 months during the „Facharztausbildung“/specialist medical training. The 12 months for the clinical position must be guaranteed by the employing hospital/PI where the „Facharztausbildung“/specialist medical training will be performed.
  • This inter-institutional program offers an excellent interdisciplinary scientific environment.
  • The program offers access to high-end technologies and state-of-the-art labs at world-class research institutions in the life sciences at the campus environment of Heidelberg University in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, one of the largest biomedical research hubs in Europe.
  • Through the unique expertise across the institutions, we offer you the exclusive opportunity to gain insight into transfer of knowledge and the development of new applications.
  • Remuneration is based on the usual rates for postdocs or doctors (TV-L/ TV-Ä or equivalent).

Application Process:

  • Please register for access to the proposed projects on our website. 
  • Option A: indicate the project(s) from the list you are interested in (up to 3 choices are possible), or
  • Option B: prepare your own Project proposal with at least two PIs at different Alliance partner institutions and a Support letter signed by the hosting Alliance PIs.
  • Cover letter outlining your scientific interests and explaining why you are the right candidate with the right skills for the Alliance labs you want to work with. Attach to the Cover letter your CV, publication list with at least on first-author publication, PhD/ MD certificate and two reference letters, save it in one single pdf.

  • At the time of the submission deadline, applicants should have not worked for more than 6 months as a postdoctoral researcher at Alliance partner institutions, which are co-hosting the selected project(s).
