Job description

We are currently looking for a postdoc for a multidisciplinary and collaborative project at the division of Biophysics, Department of Applied Physics, KTH. The goal of the project is to use advanced microscopy methods, including super resolution microscopy, to study the dynamics of immune cell receptors in the context of formation of immune synapses by natural killer (NK) cells.

The candidate will be immersed in the thriving Biophysics environment at SciLifeLab, Solna, a collaborative hub for experimental and computational biophysics research. The shared resources, including cutting-edge cell biology laboratories, advanced microscopy facilities, and a robust computational infrastructure, form an exceptional ecosystem that not only supports cutting-edge life-science research but also facilitates intellectual exchange driven by extensive national and international collaborations.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • Independence, demonstrated in research by e.g., first-author publications in high-quality conferences or journals.
  • Good level of spoken and written English to facilitate communication within the project group.
  • Extensive experience from using optical microscopy in research work.
  • Experience from working with immune cells.

Personal skills

  • You are interested in collaborating with others, with doctoral students in particular.
  • You can work independently when necessary.
  • You enjoy working in a socially diverse group with people of different genders, ethnicities, beliefs, and backgrounds.

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
  • A strong background in optical super resolution microscopy.
  • A strong background in fluorescence labelling of cells.
  • A strong background in cell culture, isolation of cells from blood and tissue.
  • Experience of image analysis, machine learning or related fields.
  • Practical experience of programming.
  • An interest in multi-disciplinary research.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality.
  • Teaching abilities
    Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.

About the employment

The position offered is for, at the most, two years.

A position as a postdoctoral fellow is a time-limited qualified appointment focusing mainly on research, intended as a first career step after a dissertation.
