Job Description

The School of Arts, Media, and Communication (SAMC) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for a 9-month, non-tenure track Assistant Professional Professor of Music Technology/Jazz/Saxophone to begin Fall 2024.

Responsibilities will include teaching music industry courses including Recording Techniques I and II, Intro to MIDI, and Applications of Music Technology as well as teaching applied saxophone lessons, directing the jazz ensemble and combos as needed, and teaching jazz history. Other duties may be assigned according to the candidate’s experience. Normal workload is fifteen credit hours of teaching. A successful candidate will demonstrate a culturally responsive approach to teaching.

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. The Department of Music is a unit of the School of Arts, Media, and Communication. The Performing Arts Center, opened in April 2005, features a concert hall with flexible acoustics designed by Jaffe-Holden Acoustics, and is the principal performance venue of the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra and the Corpus Christi Chorale, as well as student and faculty performances. A new building for music and theatre is currently in the design phase with groundbreaking expected in spring 2024.

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) is a vibrant doctoral research university with nearly 11,000 students. Required qualifications:

  •  A doctorate in saxophone performance/jazz pedagogy is required at the time of appointment.
  •  Evidence of excellence in classroom teaching of music technology and applied saxophone instruction is required along with experience in recording techniques and related applications.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Other desirable secondary areas include jazz history, jazz band/combo, music industry, recording technology, and live sound engineering.
  • Evidence of ability to be a successful teacher, scholar, performer, and colleague is desired.
