Position description

The School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Division of Epidemiology (EPI). The EPI Division offers the opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration with distinguished faculty and researchers at UC Berkeley and within the greater Bay Area. The successful applicant will be assigned a senior faculty mentor through our Junior Faculty Mentoring Program and provided with career development, guidance, and training to ensure a pathway to success.

We welcome applicants whose research addresses one or more areas of chronic disease epidemiology and the factors contributing to the risk of such conditions, particularly among marginalized populations in the United States and low and middle-income country settings. We seek individuals with research experience in syndemics who can lead innovation in transdisciplinary systems thinking approaches to new discoveries in chronic disease epidemiology and disease prevention strategies. We especially welcome applicants with training in modern epidemiologic, biostatistical, and causal inference methods. The teaching expectation for this position after a ramp-up period is three courses per academic year. We are looking for individuals with mentoring and teaching interests and experiences related to chronic disease epidemiology, the global burden of the disease, and health inequities in the United States. There will also be an assignment of service commitments at the EPI divisional and school levels.

The UC Berkeley School of Public Health recognizes the intrinsic relationship between diversity and excellence in all our endeavors. The School embraces open and equitable access to opportunities for learning and development as our obligation and goal. We seek candidates who demonstrate a commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through their research, teaching, and service.

The school is committed to addressing the family needs of faculty, including dual-career couples and single parents. We are also interested in candidates who have had non-traditional career paths, taken time off for family reasons or achieved excellence in careers outside academia.
