The University of Göttingen enjoys high international acclaim, owing to its long research tradition and broad spectrum of subjects in the natural sciences, life sciences, humanities and social sciences. With more than 210 degree courses, we offer an attractive range of subjects for around 30,000 students. Göttingen is characterized by the close cooperation of the University, the University Medical Center and seven non-university research institutions that forms the Göttingen Campus. Its innovative, interdisciplinary potential creates excellent conditions for cutting-edge research at the highest international level.
The Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology at the University of Göttingen is seeking to fill a temporary professorship with civil servant status (grade W1 NBesO) with tenure track (grade W2 NBesO) at the earliest possible date:
W1 Professorship with tenure track to W2 in
Forest phytopathobiomes (f/m/d)
The appointment is initially for a period of three years. If the interim evaluation is positive, the employment contract will be extended for another three years. Transfer to a permanent professorship (W2) shall take place after another positive evaluation without the vacancy being readvertised.
The professorship studies microbially caused diseases of forest trees and elucidates the basis for the life cycle, reproduction, dispersal, and interaction of pathogens with their hosts and within their microbial communities. To this end, it uses modern molecular genetics as well as physiological and ecological methods. The professorship contributes to the mapping of the spatial and temporal evolution of pathogen populations and elucidates the consequences of climate change and forest management on tree diseases. The professorship is expected to establish close collaborations with other departments of the faculty and the university and to actively participate in existing research projects and in the establishment of new ones. It substantially strengthens the faculty foci „Sustainable Forestry and Global Change“, „Forest Ecosystems and Biodiversity“, and „Sustainable Multifunctional Use and Management of Forests“.
The position entails the following teaching responsibilities: Subject‐specific contributions in the bachelor and master programs of the faculty, especially in the master specializations „Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology“, „Forest and Ecosystem Sciences“ and „Tropical and International Forestry“. Due to the international profile of the professorship and the students, some of the courses are to be held in English and German. It is expected that the professorship will actively participate in the further internationalization of the courses offered. The university emphasizes research‐oriented teaching.
The university encourages early career researchers with experience in one of the research areas addressed above to apply at an earlier postdoctoral stage. We are looking for a team player and dedicated person with internationally visible publications. With the appointment to a W2 professorship, the field must be fully represented.
Preconditions for appointment are laid down in § 30 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act in the currently valid version. Applicants who have completed their doctorate at the University of Göttingen can, as a rule, only be considered if they have changed universities after obtaining their doctorate or have worked scientifically for at least two years outside the University of Göttingen. As a Public Law Foundation, the University of Göttingen holds the right of appointment. Details will be explained upon request.
