The Erasmus Mundus EMLex offers an excellent international programme of study which is globally unique and highly attractive due to various activities. During the two-year programme, students will spend the second semester together with all other students at one university, which changes every year. On request, it is possible to study at a third university of the EMLex consortium in the third semester. In the 1st and 4th semester studies take place at the so-called home university. Erasmus Mundus applicants have the opportunity to name their preferred choices for their home university; the selection committee distributes the applicants equally to the partner universities.

EMLex provides 15 scholarships for the intake of 2020/21. Depending on the home university, courses will start either in September or October 2020. 75% of the scholarships are given to partner country students; 25% are given to programme country students.

• Partner Countries: non-EU countries with the exception of Turkey, Macedonia, Serbia, Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland

If you come from a partner country and have carried out your main activities (studies, work, training) in any programme country for at least 12 months in total during the previous five years, you are considered as an applicant from a programme country.

Applicants must have a Higher Educational Institution (HEI) degree in the area of

If your HEI degree is still in progress, you may nevertheless submit an application. The restriction in this case will be that the HEI degree certificate is available before the start of the EMLex study course.

Language requirements

Competences in textual reception that enable the students to understand texts in their field of studies and to take an active part in specialist discussions are absolutely necessary for a successful participation in the EMJMD EMLex master course. Instruction languages are English and German as lectures will always be held in one of these languages. Language skills must be proven by the respective language certificates.

Note:

• In your application you have to document text production skills in one of the two instruction languages that correspond to at least level B2.
• At the beginning of your studies, you have to have good text reception skills in both languages, which have to be proven by certificates (see notes below).
• Language certificates cannot be older than two years.
• No other documents than the above-mentioned will be accepted as evidence for the necessary language requirements.

Proficiency in English (for non-native speakers) must be certified by one of the following institutions for at least the given level (equivalent to B1 // B2):

• onSet-Englisch. This test can be taken at a licensed test centre in your country, check here.
• British Council (IELTS): 4.5 – 5 // 5.5 – 6.5
• Trinity (ISE Foundation): ISE I // ISE II
• TOEFL iBT: at least 42 // at least 72

• English studies / Anglistik Bachelor degree (or comparable degree) from one of the universities in the EMLex programme

Proficiency in German (for non-native speakers) must be certified by one of the following institutions for at least the given level (equivalent to B1 // B2):

The scholarship includes:

• Contribution to subsistence costs: 1,000 € per month for the entire duration of the EMLex study programme (24 months maximum)
• Contribution to travel and installation costs:
  1. For scholarship holders resident in a programme country: 1,000 € per year for travel costs.
  2. For scholarship holders resident in a partner country whose location is situated at less than 4,000 km from the coordinating institution (Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg): 2,000 € per year for travel costs + 1,000 € for installation costs.
  3. For scholarship holders resident in a partner country whose location is situated at 4,000 km or more from the coordinating institution (Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg): 3,000 € per year for travel costs + 1,000 € for installation costs.
• The scholarship also includes participation costs for the EMJMD-EMLex. These participation costs cover all additional costs which occur during your studies. They particularly include tuition fees, health insurance, library costs, administrative costs, cultural events.

Note: If you study in your home country you will not receive contribution to subsistence costs for the duration of your stay there. If you are a partner country student and study at Stellenbosch you will only receive contribution to subsistence costs for the duration of three months of your stay.

1. (a) Explain the reasons why you wish to study the EMLex Master Programme, express your expectations and your own contribution. In addition, you should state what you plan to do with the EMLex master degree.
2. (b) Report your experiences with scientific or practical lexicography that you have already made and why you have an interest in lexicography.
3. (c) Explain your choice of the preferred home university (while your preferences will be taken into account as far as possible, the final assignment will be made to best fit your study needs).
4. (d) Answer the following question: Which lexicographic project would you like to realize in your home country if you had the chance to do so?

The Europubhealth+ programme is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree that has been recognized as a Master of excellence by the European Commission since 2006.In 2016, the Executive Agency for Education, Audiovisual and Culture (EACEA) has renewed its financial support to  the programme for five more years.

• Be enrolled as a PhD student at a university in Africa.

• Have a background (BSc, MSc etc.) within Economics, Sociology, Political Science, Science and Technology Policy, Geography, History or Development Studies. Applicants may also work within the STEM (science, technology, engineering or mathematics) subjects or even manufacturing but from a social science perspective. .
• Possess adequate skills in English (documentation may be requested. Language tests that are accepted are listed on the AAU web-page.
• Be working actively on a subject relevant to the field of innovation and development as defined above.
• Submit a brief application 1 page/500 words explaining own background, motivation for applying and expected outcomes of participation in the AfricaLics PhD visiting fellowship programme

• Travel costs (economy class) and health insurance will be covered, but students have to be registered with the Danish authorities before the health insurance becomes active. This may take some time. Students must therefore take out their own health insurance for the first two weeks of the stay.
• The visiting scholars will receive a stipend of 16,000 DKK per month (equivalent to app. 2140 USD as per September 2020). This includes funds for accommodation. Tax exemption has to be applied for after the candidates arrive and cannot be guaranteed, so it is advisable to bring extra funds for the first two months of the visiting fellowship period. If an agreement is made that Danida Fellowship Centre in Copenhagen houses the visiting fellow, the stipend amount may change.
• A fixed amount is available to cover student participation in selected course activities and for supervision (over and above the stipend).
• Funding is available for organizing trilateral meetings between the PhD student, the main supervisor from home institution and the AAU mentor during the study period at AAU.
• The scholarship covers only costs related to the visit of the student him/herself. Costs related to accompanying spouses, children or others are not covered. Unfortunately, this fellowship cannot support accompanying family members and we strongly encourage fellows to not bring family members for the study visit as this will reduce time available for focussing on the PhD work.

To apply for these scholarships, you must:

• Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person
• Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country
• Be available to start your academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2020
• By September 2020, hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) standard, or a second class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree). The CSC typically does not fund a second UK Master’s degree. If you are applying for a second UK Master’s degree, you will need to provide justification as to why you wish to undertake this study.
• Not have studied or worked for one (academic) year or more in a high income country

Selection process

Each participating UK University will conduct its own recruitment process to select a specified number of candidates to be awarded Commonwealth Shared Scholarships. Universities must put forward their selected candidates to the CSC in March 2020. The CSC will then confirm that these candidates meet the eligibility criteria for this scheme. Universities will inform candidates of their results by July 2020.

Applications will be considered according to the following selection criteria:

• Academic merit of the candidate
• Potential impact of the work on the development of the candidate’s home country

How to apply

You can apply to study one of the taught Master’s courses offered in the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship scheme. These scholarships do not cover undergraduate courses, PhD study, or any pre-sessional English language teaching, and are usually tenable for one year only. View a full list of eligible courses.

Mundus MAPP/MUNMAPP is a two-year-long international joint Masters program in Public Policy, offered by  four top-ranked European institutions: Central European University (Private University; Austria), International Institute of Social Studies of Erasmus University Rotterdam (the Netherlands), Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (Spain) and the University of York (UK). Established in 2007, the program operates as an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree Program funded by the European Commission.

Mundus MAPP directly responds to the educational needs created by the rapidly changing global environment and new public policy challenges. The program equips graduates with the conceptual knowledge and hard skills that are necessary for understanding and decisively intervening in contemporary transnational policy problems, from climate change to international terrorism or financial regulatory failure. It provides a detailed and systematic understanding of how political institutions, processes and public policies operate and interact from the global political economy through to national and local levels with a direct focus on European engagements at these levels of governance. Inter-disciplinarity and practical application of conceptual knowledge are hallmarks of Mundus MAPP.

Changes in 2020

From 2020, the CEU tracks of Mundus MAPP will be offered in Vienna, Austria, by Central European University (Private University). CEU Vienna will deliver the same program components as has been hitherto (and is currently) delivered by CEU Budapest. These changes reflect the recent transformation of Central European University into a bi-campus university.

Although the UK is likely to leave the European Union by the time of academic year 2020/21, there is no change in the role of the University of York in delivering the program.

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree Scholarships will not be available for the 2020-22 edition of the program. However, institutional scholarships offered by the Consortium institutions will continue to be available for the highest rated applicants for the 2020-22 study period. Erasmus Mundus scholarships will resume as of 2021.
