Le Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) est un centre de recherche interdisciplinaire de l'Université du Luxembourg. Nous menons des recherches fondamentales et translationnelles dans le domaine de la biologie des systèmes et de la biomédecine - en laboratoire, en clinique et in silico . Nous nous concentrons sur les processus neurodégénératifs et nous nous intéressons particulièrement aux maladies d'Alzheimer et de Parkinson et à leurs facteurs contributifs.

Les candidats retenus rejoindront le groupe Environmental Cheminformatics (ECI), qui développe des méthodes pour identifier les produits chimiques inconnus et déterminer leurs effets sur la santé humaine, dirigé par le professeur Emma Schymanski. Le groupe poursuit une évolution fondamentale des évaluations de substances uniques vers le développement d'approches génériques évolutives à des dizaines de milliers de produits chimiques, de caractéristiques et d'échantillons à l'aide de la spectrométrie de masse à haute résolution non ciblée, de la chimioinformatique et de la science des données. Pour plus d'informations, rendez-vous sur le site de l'ICE .

  Ton rôle...

Nous recherchons un informaticien prêt à intégrer l'identification de structures chimiques inconnues ( c'est-à -dire absentes de toutes les bases de données) dans des flux de travail ouverts de spectrométrie de masse haute résolution non ciblée en exposomique, compte tenu des derniers développements en matière de transformateurs, d'auto-encodeurs et d'approches de génération de structures ouvertes. Cet effort devrait s'appuyer sur et s'intégrer aux approches actuelles utilisées dans le groupe, notamment patRoon , Shinyscreen , MS-DIAL et MetFrag .

Ce poste fait partie du projet ECHIDNA , financé par le programme ATTRACT du Fonds National de la Recherche du Luxembourg (FNR).

  Ce que nous attendons de vous…

• Doctorat en sciences informatiques, mathématiques, environnementales ou dans des domaines connexes avec une expérience pratique en programmation
• Expérience dans le développement/la contribution à des logiciels collaboratifs dans un environnement de science ouverte et de version contrôlée (GitHub, GitLab)
• Une expérience des flux de travail de spectrométrie de masse à haute résolution non ciblée (HR-MS/MS) ou des approches de génération de structure sera très avantageuse
• Soutenir les initiatives de science ouverte et vouloir devenir un membre actif des communautés internationales de l'environnement, de la spectrométrie de masse et de la chimioinformatique soutenant les chercheurs
• Volonté de contribuer aux livrables et aux objectifs du projet et du groupe, avec les membres du projet et les collaborateurs
• Volonté de travailler en équipe, avec les membres du projet et d'autres collègues du LCSB

About us...

The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is an interdisciplinary research centre of the University of Luxembourg. We conduct fundamental and translational research in the field of Systems Biology and Biomedicine – in the lab, in the clinic and in silico. We focus on neurodegenerative processes and are especially interested in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and their contributing factors.

The LCSB recruits talented scientists from various disciplines: computer scientists, mathematicians, biologists, chemists, engineers, physicists and clinicians from more than 50 countries currently work at the LCSB. We excel because we are truly interdisciplinary and together we contribute to science and society.

Successful candidates will join the Environmental Cheminformatics (ECI) group, which develops methods to identify unknown chemicals and determine their effects on human health, led by Prof. Emma Schymanski. The group pursues a fundamental shift away from single-substance assessments, towards developing generic approaches scalable to tens of thousands of chemicals, features and samples using non-target high resolution mass spectrometry, cheminformatics and data science.   Your Role...

We are looking for a computational scientist ready to integrate the identification of unknown chemical structures (i.e. absent from any databases) into open non-target high resolution mass spectrometry workflows in exposomics, considering the latest developments in transformers, autoencoders and open structure generation approaches. This effort should build on and integrate into current approaches used in the group, including patRoon, Shinyscreen, MS-DIAL and MetFrag.

This position is part of the ECHIDNA project, funded by the ATTRACT programme of the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR).

  What we expect from you…

• PhD degree in computational, mathematical, environmental sciences or related fields with hands-on programming experience
• Experience in developing/contributing to collaborative software in an open science, version-controlled environment (GitHub, GitLab)
• Experience in non-target high resolution mass spectrometry (HR-MS/MS) workflows or structure generation approaches will be highly advantageous
• Supportive of Open Science initiatives and willing to become an active member in international environmental, mass spectrometry and cheminformatics communities supporting researchers
• Eagerness to contribute to the deliverables and goals of the project and group, with project members and collaborators
• Willingness to work in a team, with project members and other LCSB colleagues
• Fluent in English, additional skills in German and/or French will be advantageous

AFTS’ AlphaExpo program has been seeded in our mission to support early-stage entrepreneurship and investment in the African financial technology ecosystem. At each November edition of the Africa Fintech Summit, we select startups from hundreds of applications to exhibit at the summit free of charge and to participate in our AlphaExpo Bootcamp, concluding in a pitch competition.

We have begun accepting applications to our 6th AlphaExpo cohort at this year’s Africa Fintech Summit in November 2023. Please apply before August 30, 2023 to be considered for the program. Selected startups will be notified of their selection by September 15th.

The application for the TOMODACHI Story Jam for Youth with Disabilities 2023 is open now. Japanese and American college students and young professionals with disabilities will learn digital storytelling and leadership during the 9-week online program. Participants will explore and identify a moment or moments related to overcoming barriers to tell as a story and make it into a short movie.

This year’s program will run 7-9pm on Thursdays Eastern Standard Time in U.S. or 8-10am on Fridays Japan Standard Time.

Eligibility

To qualify for the program, you must:

• Be a Japanese or American individual with a disability
• Be between 18 and 35 years old
• Be a student currently enrolled at a Japanese or American college, or a young professional working part-time, full-time, or self-employed
• Have basic English language skills (conversation, reading, and writing), or if you are Deaf, have basic English language reading and writing skills and basic American Sign Language skills
• Have a compelling story about your experience of breaking down barriers at college, work, or other areas of life (e.g., relationships, family, community), and lessons learned
• Be willing to attend all scheduled group sessions
• Give permission to have your digital story be shared at a public online event and published elsewhere

Ainsi, la Commission de l'UA continue de créer un environnement propice à une participation effective des acteurs de la société civile dans les processus de paix et de gouvernance aux niveaux national, régional et continental ; en vue de renforcer le rôle et la contribution essentiels qu'ils jouent dans la promotion de la démocratie, de la bonne gouvernance, de la paix durable, de la sécurité et du développement.

Promouvoir une plus large appropriation de l'Agenda de l'UA pour faire taire les armes sur le continent et en tant que contribution au thème de l'année 2021 : « Arts, culture et patrimoine : leviers pour construire l'Afrique que nous voulons », la Commission a organisé à Accra, Ghana , du 14 au 16 décembre 2021, un séminaire sous le thème : « Arts, culture et patrimoine comme leviers pour faire taire les armes en Afrique ». Le séminaire, qui a impliqué de jeunes artistes des cinq régions du continent, a fourni l'occasion d'améliorer la compréhension des mécanismes et des efforts de paix et de sécurité de l'UA, ainsi que de renforcer leurs capacités à promouvoir l'initiative STG dans leurs pays et communautés respectifs.

La formation couvrira des sujets sur le rôle des artistes dans la promotion de la défense de la paix par les arts, l'introduction à faire taire les armes, y compris le travail de l'UA dans la promotion de la paix et de la sécurité, la prévention des conflits ; et le soutien à la reconstruction post-conflit, ainsi que les principes d'un plaidoyer et d'une sensibilisation efficaces, entre autres.

 Plus précisément, la formation vise à permettre aux artistes de ;

• Sensibiliser le public et sensibiliser le public au fait de faire taire les armes ;
• Mobiliser les citoyens africains et les autres parties prenantes pour qu'ils se rallient à la campagne continentale Faire taire les armes, afin de parvenir à une Afrique sans conflit et de créer des conditions favorables à la transformation socio-économique du continent ;
• Sensibiliser davantage sur la prolifération des armes légères et de petit calibre illicites, l'impact négatif de ces armes sur le continent africain ;
• Encourager les citoyens africains en possession d'armes illicites à les remettre aux autorités désignées en échange d'une amnistie.

Promote greater ownership of the AU agenda to silence the guns on the continent and contribute to the theme of the year 2021: "Arts, culture and heritage: levers to build the Africa we want" : Levers to build the Africa we want”, the Commission organized in Accra, Ghana, from 14 to 16 December 2021, a seminar on the theme: “Arts, culture and heritage as levers to silence the weapons in Africa". The seminar, which was attended by young artists from the five regions of the continent, was an opportunity to improve understanding of the mechanisms and efforts of the AU in the field of peace and security,as well as build their capacity to promote the Silencing the Guns initiative in their respective countries and communities in their respective countries and communities.

The training will cover topics such as the role of artists in promoting peace through the arts, an introduction to the theme "Silencing the Guns", including the AU's work in support of peace and security , conflict prevention and support for post-conflict reconstruction, as well as the principles of effective advocacy and awareness-raising, among others.

More specifically, the training aims to enable artists to

• Raising public awareness of the need to silence the guns;
• Mobilize African citizens and other stakeholders to rally behind the continental campaign “Silencing the Guns”, in order to achieve a conflict-free Africa and create conducive conditions for the socio-economic transformation of the continent;
• Raise awareness of the problem of the proliferation of illicit small arms and light weapons and the negative impact these weapons have on the African continent;
• Encourage African citizens in possession of illicit weapons to hand them over to designated authorities in exchange for an amnesty.

• Be a citizen of an AU Member State
• Have at least a high school diploma
• Be an established artist;
• Have experience in promoting, advancing and supporting peace processes, especially experience in community engagement through art.
• Have a strong background with the local community/region where he/she works
• Fluency in French or English
• Be able to attend the training from a computer for the entire duration of the training.
• Be available and willing to participate in online training (5 days and 2.5 hours of training per day and 2 hours of homework per day).

Small Grants Scheme

This scheme is for community groups in Herefordshire and Worcestershire planning arts events or purchases. There are two funds – Events and Activities and Arts Equipment.  Both offer up to all the projected cost, to a maximum of £1,000. There are separate Guidelines for each fund.

The scheme is administered on behalf of the Foundation by Community First, the Community Council for Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Guidelines and application forms are available to download online. Please ensure that you do not complete the application form until you have read the guidelines thoroughly. IL Grant Funds Recovery Act

Please note these funds are subject to the IL Grant Funds Recovery Act. Please familiarize yourself before submitting an application.

Limitations

• Funds appropriated by the Illinois General Assembly, including funds distributed by the IEJF, may not be spent on a sectarian purpose.
• Said funds may not be used for the purpose of lobbying; encouraging political activities, labor or anti-labor activities, boycotts, picketing, strikes or demonstrations; or investigative or legal compliance activities related to a pending dispute.
• A recipient may not use funds received under the Illinois Equal Justice Act to file an individual action or class action under the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act or other labor laws.
• No more than 10% of grants awarded by the IEJF can be used for overhead costs. Failure to abide by this may jeopardize future funding from the IEJF.

Grant Disbursement

Grant payments will be disbursed in December, April and June.  Payments are dependent on receipt of the funds from the state and IEJF acceptance of the Mid-Year report.

General Evaluation Criteria

(see funding category for more specific criteria)

• Demonstrated need for the proposed services.
• Applicant’s experience in providing said service, as indicated by the experience levels and qualifications of key staff and the numbers of persons served in prior years.
• Efficient service delivery, which takes into consideration factors such as the relative costs of the applicant’s services; cooperation and coordination with other entities to avoid duplication of effort; the use of volunteers; and the use of technology to increase access to services and to maximize productivity.
• Sound organizational management, including indices such as the fiscal health of the sponsoring organization; realistic income and expense budgets for the project; evidence of active involvement and oversight by a qualified advisory board and/or board of directors; and demonstrated technical efficiencies and protection of client data.
• Use of evaluative and measurement techniques that measure success, effectiveness and efficiency as it relates to organizational mission and that are used for learning and improvement. Some non-exhaustive examples:
  • Goal: Decrease the number of seniors suffering from abusive debt collection practices in service area.
    • Objective: During the grant period, file 20 Fair Debt Collection Practice Act claims on behalf of seniors in our service area.
    • Objective: During the first six months of the grant period, secure debt modifications or eliminations for 35 seniors.
    • Outcome measurements: Number and value of debts forgiven, amount of attorney fees awarded to organization, client satisfaction and quality of life improvements.
  • Goal: Increase the knowledge and understanding of area homeless about their educational rights.
    • Objective: Mobilize volunteer attorneys to create know-your-rights materials on Public School regulations, producing a comprehensive pamphlet within six months.
    • Objective: Distribute 125 copies of the know-your-rights materials to homeless youth and their families in service area from June to August.
    • Outcome measurements: Increase in knowledge/understanding/confidence in system use by recipients, increased use of educational system by recipients, increase in legal representation and/or requests for assistance from homeless population that now understands their rights regarding education.
  • Goal: Decrease the burden on families and courts during divorces in service area.
    • Objective: Train 10 new family-law mediators in three cities in the county over the course of the grant period.
    • Objective: Provide mediations to completion for 70 clients across the county over the course of the grant period.
    • Outcome measurements: Participant feedback on fairness/equity/satisfaction/speed/confidence building, agreement rates, reduction in divorce related court hearings and/or filings.
  • Goal: Increase access to justice for self-represented litigants at the local courthouse.
    • Objective: Recruit 40 new volunteers to staff the organization’s self-help desks by conducting two outreach events and training sessions in September at the local law school.
    • Objective: Over the next six months, pilot new self-help center software by providing services to 1,500 clients.
    • Outcome measurements: Increased service speed and volume at desk, decrease in number of SRL forms rejected by the court, increase in success rates for SRL, improvements in collaboration with clerk staff.
  • Performance under previous Illinois Equal Justice Foundation grants. For organizations that received grants in fiscal year 2023 and are seeking a renewal, information on how the grant is being used, what services are being provided and if/how the funds increased the capacity of the organization.

Grant requests will be evaluated on the factors listed above, the criteria listed under each funding category as well as those outlined in the Illinois Equal Justice Act.

The IEJF is committed to equitable salaries for legal aid providers and encourages applicants to develop a reasonable pay scale, training and support program for its personnel to ensure that client services are not interrupted by unplanned staff turnover.

Application And Reporting Requirements

Applications must be submitted electronically by July 28, 2023.

Application procedures and forms will be available by June 30, 2023 at www.iejf.org under the Civil Legal Aid Grants tab. From there you can login to the grant portal. The “Apply” button on the top left will allow you to select your funding category and apply.

Grant reports are also submitted via the online portal.

All grantees must submit a brief mid-term report on their activities on or by April 15, 2024.  Grantees must state whether or not they can spend the grant funds in the time and manner allocated in this report. Payments for April and June are contingent on receipt and acceptance of the mid-term report. All funds must be expended by August 31, 2024. The IEJF reserves the right to re-grant funds if deemed necessary.

A detailed final report will be due on or by September 30, 2023. Failure to submit reports in a timely manner may jeopardize future IEJF funding.

About the ARIN Fellowship Program

ARIN is powered by community participation. To encourage and foster new voices, our Fellowship Program provides an interactive learning opportunity to individuals interested in learning more about Internet number resource policy development and Internet governance.

Up to 10 Fellows are selected twice a year to participate in the monthlong program before and during an ARIN Public Policy and Members Meeting. Fellows receive an in-depth introduction to the ARIN organization and the Policy Development Process (PDP) to facilitate their participation.

Fellows are assigned a Mentor from the ARIN community who will act as their guide through a series of sessions providing an overview of Internet governance, Internet number resource policy and its development, ARIN services and operations, and the Internet Number Registry System.

Members of the ARIN Advisory Council and seasoned community members volunteer to serve as Mentors to help facilitate Fellows’ transition into the ARIN community. During two virtual Fellowship sessions prior to the ARIN meeting, each Mentor and their Fellows will meet for small group breakout discussions about ARIN’s processes and operations and how to prepare for the upcoming Public Policy and Members Meeting.

Throughout this process, Fellows are encouraged to ask questions as they gain the knowledge and confidence to join in community discussions, propose new ideas, and become part of the future of Internet governance and policy in the ARIN region. The challenge

To be in the running for this opportunity, you need to write and publish a story in your national media between now and August 2nd, focussing on how challenging the energy transition can be, and those at risk of being left behind.

The transition away from fossil fuel energy resources  – such as oil, gas and coal – to renewable energy sources like solar and wind is critical to reducing global greenhouse gas emissions and averting a climate catastrophe.

However, developing countries leaders especially in Africa are of the view that peculiar challenges – such as debt, poverty, conflicts – faced by the continent will affect its abilities to effectively adapt to the changing climate and drive energy transition.

These developmental challenges are what has led to these leaders calling for a continued use of fossil fuels like gas, a debt-for-climate-swap deal, a mix of fossil fuels and renewable energy, amongst others.

Meanwhile, the continent has abundant renewable energy resources which makes it well positioned for a clean energy future; yet it struggles, with over 600 million of its population still without electricity access.

So to be considered for this opportunity, journalists need to write a story that puts into context the challenges Africa is facing in its energy transition drive.

What you could write about

We’re looking for examples of stories that cover local, national and continental scales. Whatever your beat or your audience are, you could consider writing on:

• How reliant is your national electricity grid on fossil fuels
• The impact of fossil fuels on local communities around power plants
• Families who work in fossil fuel extraction, and how they feel about the future
• A resilient community trying to run on renewable power
• The expansion of oil and gas exploration in your country amid transition pledges
• The success or failure of transition efforts by your country
• The plight of a community without energy access
• How finance flows from the global north is affecting the energy transition drive in Africa

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for powerful stories that shine a unique perspective on the energy transition; whether it is on a continental, national or local level. We want journalists to take on the challenge of telling stories that are nuanced, and complex.

You don’t have to worry about telling a COP story, or even a global story if you don’t want to.  We want you to report on a story that embodies the challenges of the energy transition, and matter to your readers, wherever they are across the continent. We want journalists to dive into the most pressing energy issues they can find, whether they are local stories, or cover challenges common across the continent.

We are looking for reporters who aren’t afraid to report on the real challenges facing the energy transition across Africa, and interview change-makers, experts and the victims of an unfair or uneven transition.

We don’t expect there are easy answers, and we want journalists to dive into both the challenges and potential solutions, but without feeling like they have to offer an easy answer if one doesn’t exist.

Most importantly, we want journalists who can tell a captivating story for their readers, no matter who they are. The energy transition will impact everyone, and we are looking for journalists who are willing to dive in and tell that story.

What are the requirements?

1. Your story can be in any language or style.
2. It has to be published in a national media publication in Africa, or with an African focus
3. It can be on radio, television, digital or print, but we need a link or evidence of the story
4. It can be in any format or length
5. It must be an original story, published between July 2nd and August 2nd, 2023

How we will select our fellows

When it comes to selecting our fellows, we will review all the stories, regardless of formats, languages or publication types based on the criteria below:

1. The power and uniqueness of the story
2. The journalistic quality and complexity of the piece, including interviews and use of sources
3. Audience engagement
4. Your understanding of the energy transition dynamics in Africa
5. If there is any social media promotion

What we’re not interested in

• We’re not interested in an advocacy piece or an op-ed
• We’re also not interested in something you published last year
• We’re not interested in a piece that addresses elements of climate change without discussing energy transition issues specifically
• We’re also not interested in a piece that is overly simplistic or critical without basis
• We’re not interested in stories without real research or multiple sources used

We’re interested in real reporting that dives into nuance, adds context and attempts to answer challenging questions through a powerful and compelling story

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for this opportunity, you need to be:

• Currently living and working in an African country
• Between 18 – 35 this year
• Able to attend or watch at least 1 out of 2 competition webinars in July
• A published journalist, author or reporter
  • If you have written on climate change before, great – but this is not required. If you are interested in taking on this challenge, let’s go!
• Able to publish a story between June 30 – August 3rd, 2023
• Able to report on COP28 this year, between November 27 to December 15
• Able to attend a 6 week, online pre-COP training (3-4 hours commitment per week) between October to mid-November
• Not currently funded to attend or report on COP28 already

What next after applying? Wait to get feedback! If you are shortlisted, Climate Tracker will send you an email to schedule a possible interview date, after which we will make the final announcement of successful fellows.
