HJF is seeking a Surge Team Research Assistant to support the Center for Rehabilitation Sciences Research (CRSR) located at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) in New London, CT. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to CRSR.

The incumbent will assist the Principal Investigator and Research Coordinator with research activities. The USCGA is a designated performance site within the NCAA-DoD Grand Alliance: Concussion Assessment, Research and Education (CARE) Consortium. The CARE Consortium’s goal is to better understand the natural history and return to play criteria of NCAA athletes and cadet/midshipmen student-athletes at the military services academies. As a member of the USCGA surge team, you will assist in the collection of baseline data in support of the CARE initiative and provide other support as necessary to the study team.

Responsibilities:

  1. The Research Assistant will assist with data collection in adherence to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Clinical Practices (GCP) baseline assessment measures.
  2. Performs basic study related procedures in accordance to the local IRB.
  3. Assist Principal Investigator and Research Coordinator with the administrative logistics including consenting, data collection, and scheduling.
  4. Assist with the administration of concussion baseline assessments.
  5. Maintain subject files and documents all correspondence pertinent to the research study.
  6. Communicate in a professional manner with study team and attend all regular team meetings.
  7. Promote safety and confidentiality of research participants at all times.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience with the administration of concussion assessments including, but not limited to: SCAT3, SAC, BESS, and BSI-18. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be organized and attentive to detail. May be required to work variable schedules as needed.

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree required.

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: 0-2 years of experience in the research or athletic training field.

Required Licenses, Certification or Registration: Certified athletic trainer or athletic training student preferred.

Physical Capabilities: Requires long periods of standing, sitting, and bending.

Work Environment: Military University Environment, Military Base, and Outpatient setting.

Anticipated Dates of Employment: JULY 1 – 3. Dates may change upon schedule changes due to COVID-19.
