HJF is seeking a Deputy Psychologist to support the Massed Cognitive Processing Randomized Control Trial Research Program in the Department of Behavioral Health located at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in Fort Belvoir, VA.  HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to the Department of Behavioral Health.

The incumbent functions in capacity as a member of the staff of the Outpatient Psychiatry Service for all categories of patients.  Performs duties as a practitioner and consultant in Psychiatry with emphasis on problems of all levels of complexity. Work directly with the Principal Investigators, research team members, and key leaders.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide group and individual cognitive processing therapy to active duty service members in the context of a clinical research study.
  2. Provide psychological assessments, intakes, military and lifespan histories.
  3. Conduct diagnostic interviews and provides psycho-diagnostic testing.
  4. Utilize techniques which are evidence-based and demonstrate ethical clinical practice.
  5. Refer cases requiring outpatient or inpatient treatment that are beyond the scope of the Department of Behavioral Health.
  6. Provide consultation to other team members on clinically complex cases.
  7. Participate in conjoint emergency treatment with medical facility mental health personnel.
  8. Provide community education on topics related to military service members for the general public, professional groups, military service members groups and the media.
  9. Provide outreach in order to educate military service members about readjustment issues and available services.
  10. Maintain timely and accurate computerized records of client interactions, assessment, treatment plans, and other information pertinent to comprehensive client treatment and case management, as well as personal daily work activity.
  11. Directs Quality Assurance studies in the areas of responsibility.
  12. All other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to diagnose and treat psychological problems of all complexities; familiarity with military medical system desirable. As a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team, the employee will provide professional consultation and collaboration with other professional and paraprofessional staff for the CPT Study Program. As directed, assists the Principle Investigator with significant leadership responsibilities and serving as immediate deputy supervisor for the CPT Study. Manage, plan, and direct CPT Study program needs. Apply current directives, regulations, and accepted clinical principles and practices in directing the treatment functions of the CPT Study. Perform caseload work, including special problem cases, beyond the professional capability of the other clinical staff. Provide the full range of clinical psychological services and supervises all other clinical staff performing the same. Conduct internal personnel administration and management. Aid the Principle Investigator in establishing performance appraisals; discuss performance with subordinates; plan and organize work to meet workload demands, and to equalize caseloads among staff members. Aid the Principle Investigator in initiating requests for filling of vacancies and interview and make selections of personnel. Disclosure of any confidential information by the employee shall be deemed disclosure of such confidential information by such Party, which Party shall be held liable for breach of this Agreement.

Minimum Education: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology.

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: 3-5 years of related experience in a psychiatry service.

Required Licenses, Certification or Registration: The Clinical Psychologist position requires a current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. (You must provide a copy of your license with your application package.) Must possess a valid state driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.

Physical Capabilities: Walking, standing, and sitting.  Physically able to move freely or be stationary for prolonged periods of time.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Assist Site PI in an administrative and supervisory role. Provide clinical supervision and oversight of staff performing work under the award’s scope of work. Work with Site-Principal Investigator to ensure study conduct is performed within scope of award, award terms and conditions, and all governing regulations. Duties as assigned by the Site PI within the scope of a deputy chief.

Work Environment: May be required to work in confined spaces and may need to share office space with others. Must be willing to travel for business as required.

Background/Security: U.S. citizenship required; eligible to obtain and maintain a Tier III Investigation/ Secret Clearance and Common Access Card (CAC).
