International Max Planck Research School in Chemical and Molecular Biology (IMPRS-CMB)

The aim of (IMPRS-CMB) is to provide the best environment for young and talented scientists to pursue their graduate studies and develop into independent and creative researchers.

The PhD Students join the research group of their choice and focus on a biological question but at the same time are exposed to a broad field of scientific questions and approaches in the areas of Biology, Chemistry and Biophysics.

We teach our students the importance of interdisciplinary approaches and we give them the tools to navigate in the much more complex landscape of modern science.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

Applicants should hold (or expect to hold prior to the start of their PhD) a University Master Degree in one of the following disciplines (or a related field).

Opportunity Cost

(Partially Funded)

  • PhD students of the international PhD program will receive financial support for the duration of their project. Funding can be of two types: fellowship or working contract. The choice of one or the other will depend on the source of funding of the hosting group leader and the hosting institute.
    As a rule, financial support will end with the final PhD exam.

  • A summary of your MSc project (or of the last research project).
  • A motivation letter.
  • Information about your last work experience.
  • Proof of English proficiency.
  • The contact details of two academic referees.
  • Mandatory (and recommended) documents.

  • A proof of English proficiency (recommended if you are not a native speaker or if your education was not in English).
  • Sscholarships, prizes and awards.
  • GRE general and subject tests.
