The ASEAN Foundation is an organization of and for the inhabitants of ASEAN. Three decades after the creation of ASEAN, ASEAN leaders recognized that there was still shared prosperity, insufficient awareness and contact among the people of ASEAN. It is with this concern that ASEAN leaders created the ASEAN Foundation at the ASEAN 30th Anniversary Commemorative Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on December 15, 1997. The ASEAN Foundation exists because of a vision : build a coherent and prosperous ASEAN community. As an ASEAN body, the ASEAN Foundation is responsible for supporting ASEAN primarily in promoting awareness, identity, interaction and development of ASEAN residents.
