YALE PROGRAM IN AGRARIAN STUDIES FELLOWSHIPS

The Program in Agrarian Studies at Yale fosters the interdisciplinary study of agrarian societies, historically and across the world. We aim to be the crossroads for the best work in the humanities, the social sciences, environmental studies, and related professional fields that breathes new life into the study of farmers, agriculture, and rural society and captures the texture of lived experience as well contributing to theoretical and conceptual advances. The Agrarian Studies Program appoints three fellows annually, chosen for the promise of their research; they are in residence for the year, present a paper, and attend the weekly colloquium. Emerging as well as established scholars are encouraged to apply. We also receive applications from knowledgeable “activists” and “public intellectuals” whose work on rural life transcends the academy.

Graduate students who are working on their Ph.D.s may apply, but fellowship recipients must have completed their Ph.D. dissertations and present proof that they have received their Ph.D. degrees. Fellows are expected to be in residence in New Haven to take an active part in the intellectual exchange with other members of the Program.
The application for the 2022-2023 post-doctoral search is open, and applications are due by midnight on January 3, 2022. Apply here.
First-stage applications require a two-page proposal and a two-page CV. If more is submitted the selection committee will only read the first two pages of each of these two documents. Applicants short-listed for the second-stage will be asked to send no more than 25 pages of a writing sample and two letters from their referees.
