Western University is situated on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee, Lunaapeewak and Attawandaron peoples, who have longstanding relationships to the land and region of southwestern Ontario and the City of London. The local First Nation communities of this area include Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, Oneida Nation of the Thames, and Munsee Delaware Nation. In the region, there are eleven First Nation communities and a growing Indigenous urban population.

Western’s Faculty of Education has been at the leading edge of education in Canada since 1962 and offers educational opportunities at the baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral levels. Believing today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders, the Faculty strives to strengthen the field of education to help ensure every child has the opportunity to flourish. Reporting to the Provost & Vice-President (Academic), and working in collaboration with the Associate Deans, the Dean provides leadership to the Faculty, including long-term strategic planning, commitment to student success, research, academic development, advancement, and the management of the financial, administrative and human resources. The Dean plays a major role in linking with the education community and external stakeholders and in the development of a compelling, coherent vision of innovation, scholarship, and pedagogical excellence, while sustaining and enhancing its research prominence and the student experience.

As the ideal candidate, you are an experienced academic leader with a record of success developing a collegial, participatory and transparent approach to decision-making and governance. You are an established scholar with a PhD in Education or a related field. You have experience leading research initiatives, securing grants and research funding, and supporting and motivating students and faculty in their scholarly pursuits. You are known for supporting and developing undergraduate and graduate programming. A trusted partner, you foster mutually beneficial collaborations that enhance scholarly and pedagogical activities and optimize the efficient use and sharing of resources and university assets.
