The interactive open online course “Youth, Peace and Security” introduces participants to the fundamental concepts of violence, conflict and peace and provides a space to exchange ideas and perspectives with their peers on the role of young people in transformation of conflicts.
Who is it for: Youth
“Youth, Peace and Security” is an interactive 4-week online course for motivated young people curious about how to bring about positive social change or better understand conflicts and peace, whether you are a student, volunteer or young professional.
Based on expert content developed jointly by UNOY and Search for Common Ground, you will be introduced to the fundamental concepts of violence, conflict and peace while exchanging ideas and perspectives with your peers. You will explore together the roles and power of young people to transform conflicts .
Is peace possible? What forms does violence take? What is the Youth, Peace and Security agenda? What tools are used in the transformation of conflicts and what new collaborations may be possible with the networks that you will build in this course?
Young people are no longer simply seen as a group to protect or blame in conflicts around the world. Governments, civil society and researchers are now recognizing the power of young people to act as agents of conflict transformation and peacebuilding. With young people from other countries and from diverse cultural backgrounds, explore in depth the concepts of violence, conflict and peace, and the role you can play in the contexts in which you live and work.
All you need to participate is a computer and Internet access. It is a fast paced course, and participants are expected to interact and meet weekly exchange requirements alongside their peers. The estimated time commitment is 2.5 to 3 hours per week. An Erasmus + Virtual Exchange digital badge is given to participants who successfully meet the course requirements.
