About the Faculty

The Faculty of Applied Health Sciences is home to over 100 faculty members, 4000 undergraduate and 250 graduate students in five departments: Kinesiology, Nursing, Health Sciences, Recreation & Leisure Studies and Sport Management.

The inter-departmental Master of Applied Gerontology (MAG) is a twelve-month course based (with practicum) graduate program. The first cohort of the MAG program are graduating this June (2021).

About the Position

The Master of Applied Gerontology Program at Brock University invites applications for a probationary tenure-stream position as Assistant Professor with expertise in socio-cultural aspects of gerontology, effective August 1, 2021. The successful candidate will be appointed within the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies. The position involves teaching responsibilities in the graduate Applied Gerontology curriculum (primarily) and the undergraduate Recreation and Leisure Studies curriculum. The successful candidate will teach graduate courses in gerontology in areas including Current Issues in Gerontology, Mental Health and Aging, and Research in Applied Gerontology. The appointee is expected to also develop a robust research program supported by external research funding, supervise graduate students, participation in the affairs of the program and department, and fulfillment of service commitments to the programs and the university.

Qualifications

  • The successful candidate will have a completed PhD degree with expertise in recreation and leisure issues in gerontology or a related discipline.
  • Evidence of scholarly achievement and a strong research program with a distinctive specialization in leisure and aging, leisure and well-being for older adults, or social, psychological and cultural aspects of aging.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with university teaching, professional and/or post-doctoral experience.
