The ICO’s three-month fellowships help promising young ophthalmologists from developing countries improve their practical skills and broaden their perspectives in ophthalmology. Fellows should bring the knowledge and skills acquired back to their home countries and participate in programs to preserve and restore vision.
- Bonus: US $ 6,000 (maximum) to help cover living expenses and return travel. The exact amount is subject to actual student-type living expenses in the host country.
- About 60 to 90 three-month fellowships are awarded each year.
- For applications submitted before the March 31 deadline, the scholarship is awarded and notices are sent in July. The first start date is October 1 of the same year.
- For applications submitted before the September 30 deadline, the scholarship is awarded and notices sent in January. The first start date is April 1 of the same year.
requirements:
- Residency training must be completed before applying for the scholarship.
- The specialist examination in ophthalmology must be passed.
- The applicant must be under 40 years of age at the time of the request.
- The candidate must return to his country of origin after the training, resume his previous positions and apply the knowledge acquired during the scholarship.
- The candidate must have a reasonable command of the language of the training center.
- The ICO recommends that candidates pass one or more ICO exams . We take this into account when evaluating applications.
