Faculty positions at Department of Psychology, USTC – University of Science and Technology of China

The Department of Psychology, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) (http://psy.ustc.edu.cn) was preliminarily established on December 8, 2020, under the leadership of Prof. Lin Chen, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The over-reaching goal of the department is to serve the major needs of society by conducting sophisticated research in three highlighted psychological and cognitive fields, including experimental psychology, educational psychology, and health psychology. The joint force of these research fields aims to promote the identification, education, and intellectual development of young talents, as well as their mental health.

We are now genuinely inviting talented scientists from all over the world to join us in the disciplines including but not limited to cognitive psychology, experimental psychology, cognitive neuroscience, neuroimaging, computational psychology, educational psychology, developmental psychology, healthy psychology, and etc. Candidates from related but extended research fields are also encouraged to apply. Job vacancies are provided at multiple ranks, and key requirements are detailed as follows:

1. Chair Professor/Dean of the department (Tenured Position, Ph.D. Advisor)

1. Candidates should hold positions equivalent to associate professors or above in well-known overseas universities or research institutions. For those with outstanding academic achievements, the requirements on professional ranks and working experiences may be negotiated.

2. Candidates should not have returned to China for any full-time employment or have returned to China for less than 1 year up to the date of application in principle. After receiving the offer, the candidate should resign from all overseas positions and join us to work full time for at least 3 years.

3. The university will provide full support for intended candidates to apply for the Ministry of Education’s overseas special appointment or the A-category project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The recipient will be appointed with the entitled position.

4. Internationally competitive academic resources and personal terms will be provided upon employment.

 

2. Professor (Tenured Position, Ph.D. Advisor)

1. Candidates should hold positions equivalent to associate professors or above in well-known overseas universities or research institutions.

2. Candidates should be under 45 years old. Flexibility may be provided to candidates with outstanding academic achievements.

3. Associate Professor (Tenured Position)

1. Candidates should hold professional and technical positions at vice-senior rank in well-known domestic and overseas universities or research institutions, such as assistant professor, senior research fellow, etc.

2. Candidates should demonstrate strong academic background fitting the highlighted developing aims of the department.

4. Overseas Excellent Youth Scholar Professor (Tenured-track, Ph.D. Advisor)

1. Candidates should have obtained a doctoral degree and be under 40 years old (born after 1/1/1982).

2. Candidates should hold formal academic/research positions (assistant professor, postdoc, etc.) in overseas universities, research institutions, or corporative R&D facilities for more than 36 consecutive months. For those who have obtained doctorate degrees from overseas universities with outstanding academic achievements, the requirement for working experiences may be negotiated. Candidates should not have returned to China or returned after 1/1/2021.

3. Candidates should demonstrate recognizable scientific and technological achievements and the potential to become academic leaders in the field.

4. The university will provide full support for intended candidates to apply for the NSFC Excellent Young Scholars Fund (Overseas). Intended candidates can also apply for the B-category Project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (detailed below) in parallel. If both are approved, employment will be made at the highest rank or per the candidate’s preference.

5. The B-category Project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Professor (Tenured-track, Ph.D. Advisor)

1. In principle, candidates should have obtained a doctoral degree and be under 45 years old.

2. Candidates should hold formal academic/research positions (assistant professor, postdoc, etc.) in overseas universities, research institutions, or corporative R&D facilities for more than 36 consecutive months. For those who have obtained doctorate degrees from overseas universities with outstanding academic achievements, the requirement for working experiences may be negotiated.

3. The university will provide full support for intended candidates to apply for the B-category Project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The B-category Project provides a nice alternative for the applicants of the Overseas Excellent Young Scholars Fund (NSFC) or those who are ineligible for the latter (i.e., over age limit).

4. Once granted, the B-category Project provides comparable academic support but slightly lower personal terms than the Overseas Excellent Young Scholars Fund.

 

6. Associate Research Faculty

1. In principle, candidates should be under 45 years old, with postdoctoral training experiences.

2. Requirement for postdoctoral experiences might be waived for candidates who obtain their doctoral degrees from well-known overseas universities with outstanding academic achievements.

3. Domestic candidates should hold professional and technical positions at an intermediate rank or above in well-known universities or research institutions. Outstanding postdoctoral fellows are also encouraged to apply.

7. Postdoctoral fellow

1. Candidates should have a doctoral degree and be under 35 years old.

2. Candidates should have experience in publishing research articles in SCI/SSCI journals as the first author or co-first author.
