Dubai police equips with flying motorcycles

The future that Hollywood has been offering for decades has never seemed so close. Hoversurf, an American company, has just opened pre-orders for its Hoverbike, a flying motorbike that caused a sensation during its presentation . The Dubai police have already bought some copies.

The price of the machine: not less than 150,000 dollars (a little more than 130,000 euros), including 10,000 dollars down payment. Admittedly, it’s expensive, but the top speed of the Hoverbike S3, with its four horizontal propellers reminiscent of a drone, still rises to 100 km / h …

Last year, the Californian firm had received a serious publicity when the Dubai police announced its intention to equip these flying motorcycles. The emirate’s police officers – two teams have just started their training – have to deal with the other small defect of the machine: its autonomy. From 10 to 25 minutes in “motorcycle” mode, 40 in “drone” mode. And it takes almost three hours to recharge the battery of this little bug of 114 kilos. For security reasons, the altitude is also limited to 5 meters.

The Dubai police recently told CNN to expect to see its Hoverbikes fly in the course of 2020. Never short of ideas, it also intends to bring real “robocops” in 2030.

A video was posted on Youtube last month showing an Emirati officer riding a Hoverbike S3.
