The Richard Davidson Prize offers two scholarships to complete the PG certificate in global food security and nutrition (online) in 2020-2021.
The objective of the MSc in Global Food Security and Nutrition is to develop applied knowledge and understanding and specialized professional skills to analyze food systems, food security and food production, and to be able to lead change in food systems. to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. The Richard Davidson Award aims to enable us to support a number of young professionals who seek to become leaders in food systems and support food security, but who may have had difficulty accessing higher education.
Price
The Richard Davidson Prize offers two scholarships to complete the PG certificate in world food security and nutrition (online). This is equivalent to the first year of the PG Diploma and MSc Global Food Security & Nutrition programs (online) and covers three core courses * (60 credits). These must be completed in the academic year.
* Basic course for MSc Global Food Security & Nutrition (online): Nutrition for Food Security (VESC11187); Sustainable food production (VESC11199) ; Frameworks for assessing food security (VESC11198).
Eligibility
Applicants must have applied for the PGCert., PGDip., Or MSc. Global Food Security and Nutrition (online) from the academic year 2020-2021. Applicants must have firmly accepted their offer of admission before the application deadline.

In order to apply for one of the scholarships, you must complete the standard application process for the PGCert., PGDip., Or MSc. World food security and nutrition (online) from the academic year 2020-2021. Applicants must have firmly accepted their offer of admission before the scholarship application deadline. Please answer the following questions in the maximum number of words indicated.
- We are interested in your passion for food or agriculture. Tell us what you are passionate about about food and your experiences with food or farming related to your desire to study food security. (400 words)
- The objective of our MSc is to develop leaders capable of dealing with the crisis in food systems, from food insecurity to environmental impacts. Tell us about your leadership skills and give us an example of how you used them to facilitate specific change. (400 words)
- Tell us what challenges have you encountered in your education and how have you sought to overcome them? (200 words)
- How will the skills you acquire at the University of Edinburgh benefit your community or your country? Are there any specific eating related issues that you would like to help change? (300 words)
- This program is delivered online. What do you think are the positive aspects of studying online and what problems can you envisage? How would you overcome these problems? (200 words)
Selection criteria
The shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview via a video connection, for example Skype. In the event of pre-selection, you will receive an e-mail to the address you entered in your application. You will be asked to choose a convenient time slot for the interview. The interview will last approximately 30 minutes and will allow us to learn more about the scholarship and your interests in food safety and also an opportunity for us to get to know you better. You can also ask all your questions.
Prices will be determined based on academic merit, answers to the five questions and also the interview.
