The University of Manchester offers equity and merit scholarships to students from sub-Saharan Africa

Each year, the University of Manchester awards Equity and Merit Scholarships to academically excellent students from sub-Saharan Africa who have the potential to make a contribution.

Countries all over the world face many development challenges and their brightest young minds have the ability and the will to make a difference. Our fairness and merit program helps them achieve this.

We help high-quality young professionals from Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia and Tanzania to undertake masters degrees, on campus or online, that fill the skills gap in their country.

Jointly funded by the University and the generosity of donors, the scholarships cover the entire student experience, from honoraria to living expenses and home travel.

We offer two types of scholarships:

  • Full-time master’s degree on campus (duration of one year)
  • Part-time distance master (duration of three to five years)

There are 30 scholarships (20 for full-time study and 10 for online study) for selected courses available to students from Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Tanzania. The scholarships cover all tuition costs and, for students who will study in Manchester, the price includes round-trip international air fares, living expenses and visas.
