The University of Calgary, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM) invites applications for a 13 month limited term Instructor position in the department of Veterinary Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences.
The position will have 90% of its time focused on teaching with 10% dedicated to service. Teaching will largely be comprised of hands-on instruction of undergraduate DVM students in clinical skills laboratories and administrative duties to support the course. A smaller contribution will be to didactic, communication program and field course teaching.
Qualifications include a DVM (or equivalent) with demonstration of continuing education and experiences that demonstrate a high standard of small animal clinical practice. A minimum of 5 years of clinical practice is expected. Past teaching experience is considered an asset. The applicant must be licensed or be eligible for immediate licensure in the Province of Alberta. Appointments at the rank of Instructor requires evidence of successful undergraduate teaching abilities. The duties of an Instructor will normally include, but not go beyond the scholarship required to maintain currency in pedagogy and content in the discipline.
UCVM has approximately 70 faculty members, 130 staff, 125 DVM students, 110 graduate students, 25 post-doctoral fellows, and 15 advanced clinical trainees. UCVM’s DVM program provides a comprehensive general veterinary education to approximately 30-32 students per year (50 students per year as of September 2020). The program is an integrated core-elective program, with enhanced educational opportunities in defined areas that combine discipline-based courses with extensive on-campus and off-campus experiential learning. UCVM is a research-intensive faculty with expanding research, graduate education, and advanced clinical trainee programs.
