The University of Calgary, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM) is seeking a dynamic, experienced veterinary practitioner with a passion for bovine medicine and surgery, and teaching, for an Instructor (Tenure Track) or Senior Instructor (with Tenure) position in the Department of Production Animal Health.

This full-time teaching position (90% distribution of effort for teaching) will have primary responsibility in development, delivery, and administration of production animal (mostly bovine) curriculum in clinical and professional skills laboratories, 4th year student rotations, and didactic lectures taught during the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program. Contributions to other courses, according to program needs and the expertise of the successful candidate, may also be required. The UCVM employs a Distributed Veterinary Teaching Hospital; therefore, clinical duties and 4th year rotation teaching will occur in partner production animal specialty practices or other practice settings. In addition, there is an expectation of a 10% time commitment to service activities.

Candidates must hold a DVM (or equivalent) degree, be licensed or eligible for immediately licensure in the province of Alberta (there are some opportunities for special or limited licensure) and have a minimum of 5 years of clinical practice experience. Applicants must have demonstrated expertise in bovine clinical skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Previous experience mentoring or working with students in any environment, or experience with animal nutrition, is considered an asset.

The UCVM has approximately 70 faculty members, 130 staff, 140 DVM students, 150 graduate students, 35 post-doctoral fellows, and 15 advanced clinical trainees. UCVM’s DVM program provides a comprehensive general veterinary education to approximately 50 students per year. The program is an integrated core-elective program that combines discipline-based courses with extensive on-campus and off-campus experiential learning. The UCVM is a research-intensive faculty with expanding research, graduate education, and advanced clinical trainee programs.
