1. PURPOSE OF THE COMPETITION
PORADA, in cooperation with POLI.design, founded by Politecnico di Milano, announces an international competition of ideas to identify new innovative concepts on different types of chair , in which the use of solid wood is widespread (although not necessarily exclusive ) and which conveys the values and identity of the Porada brand.
Wood, whether in a natural finish (preferably in the finishes mainly used by the company), or lacquered, can be combined with metal, glass, leather, leather or fabric.
Drawings submitted must be original and unpublished; they must improve the use of production technologies, woodworking processes and the typical finish of solid wood and they must meet the principle of functionality.
They must comply with the safety standards in force, while also respecting the requirements for ergonomic, environmental and sustainable design.
2. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
The competition is open to:
- Category of professionals (P), Italian and / or foreign designers working independently or employed by companies (if duly authorized by their company).
- Category of students (S), Italian and / or foreign students registered in license or master and recent graduates.
For both categories, group entries are also allowed. In this case, the members of the group must designate a manager who will be the only manager and referent of POLI.design.
When registering for the contest, participants unreservedly accept the terms of this contest contained in this document. If these conditions are not fully or partially met by the participant, their design may be disqualified.
The members of the jury, their relatives, employees of Porada and POLI.design, cannot participate.
The projects must be original and unpublished and developed exclusively for the competition.
Each participant (or group) is authorized to submit only one project.
Participation in the competition is anonymous. Each participant must create a digital code (a six-digit number, without any number repeated more than twice, and not in order) to be used to identify the files mentioned in art. 4.
For the Professional category: add the letter “P” as a prefix, which indicates the Professional category.
For the Student category: add the letter ‘S’ as a prefix, which indicates the Student category.
3. APPLICATION OF PARTICIPATION
The request to participate in the competition and the submission of the required documents must be made via the online procedure via the site:

medjouel.com informs you that the application form must contain the participant’s personal data, his tax identification number, his personal address, his mobile and personal telephone numbers, his e-mail address, an explicit declaration of having understood the rules of this competition and their unconditional acceptance and, for the Student category, the name of the university, campus, study program and year of attendance.
The code and / the first name (s) of the participant (s) must appear exclusively on the application form, no name must appear on the other documents presented, under penalty of disqualification.
4. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
The documents must be delivered in digital form via the above electronic procedure within the time limit indicated in point 5.
Each participant (or group) must submit:
- a brief report (max 3000 characters) describing the motivations, the general concept, the design features of the project and a description of the materials required.
The pdf file of the report must be presented in portrait orientation on ISO-A4 paper (21 x 29.7 cm) and must be named “relazione_codice”.
The header must contain only the alphanumeric code mentioned in section 2 and any name / title of the project; - technical drawings composed of three boards in landscape orientation on ISO-A3 (42 x 29.7 cm), in pdf format, composed on a plan of the board, downloadable from the site http: //www.porada-design-award. polidesign.net .
The tables will contain:
– Table 1 : an overview, reference scenarios and modes of use, a mood table, a general concept of the object in the context of use and sources of inspiration;
– Table 2 : technical drawings: plans, elevations, sections, axonometric projections, exploded views, design drawings listed at the appropriate scale and specific details and choices of materials, which are considered important;
– Plate 3: representation of the object, rendering, photos of the model.
The presentation tables must be combined into a single pdf file named “tavole_codice” (maximum file size 5 MB). - a preview image of the project, summarizing the main characteristics (which may correspond to the rendering or another image deemed important) and this will be the first image viewed by the judges to identify the project, in jpg format (maximum file size 1 MB).
Files must be downloaded exclusively via the online procedure described above (server connections for downloading files or files sent by regular or certified email will not be accepted). No confirmation e-mail will be sent, since the files, once uploaded to the portal, may be modified and / or replaced by the participant until the contest expires. After the deadline, personal pages will no longer be accessible to users.
5. CALENDAR
The inputs required in digital format, without exception, must be uploaded to the site, as
established in paragraph 4, no later than midnight on 6 November th , 2020 .
6. JURY
The jury is composed of the following members with voting rights:
– A representative of POLI.design
– Four professional architects / designers – Two representatives of the
sectoral press
– Two representatives of the company Porada
The jury’s deliberations will be reserved, while the final report, containing the list of winners, as well as the finalists and honorable mentions, will be made public.
The jury decides by majority vote and its decision is final.
The jury’s deliberations will end no later than 6 December th 2020 .
7. EVALUATION CRITERIA
The selection and evaluation of designs will take into account their originality, the degree of innovation and the search for new design solutions related to the typical transformation of wood from solid wood.
Experimentation related to materials and surface finishes, the ability to define and anticipate usage scenarios and innovative concepts for the use of wooden furniture and contemporary furnishing accessories, taking specific account of typological determinations, technological and morphological, but in line with the identity values and the mission of the Porada brand.
8. HONORABLE PRICES AND MENTIONS
The total price of € 10,000.00 will be distributed as follows:

Porada reserves the right to produce prototypes of winning projects and possibly put them into production.
9. AUTHORIZATION AND OWNERSHIP OF DRAWINGS
Contest participants retain ownership and rights to use their works.
Porada reserves the right to stipulate a contract for the industrial exploitation of projects with the designers of winning or finalist projects.
The participants grant Porada the possibility of using the winning projects for one year from the date of the jury’s report.
During this period, the company will assess the advisability of putting the design into production and in this case, the economic agreement with the designers will be governed by a specific contract. Porada undertakes not to modify the works presented in any way without the approval of the designer.
Porada also has the right to request a one-year option on projects that do not receive a price, subject to the payment of fees to be agreed between the parties.
10. INFORMATION AND PUBLICATION OF RESULTS
The results of the jury’s evaluation will be communicated to the winners within the set deadlines and communicated by email.
Porada will present the initiative to the trade press and will communicate the results of the competition at an event, for which information will be provided in due time.
All contest participants also authorize the company to exhibit their projects in public (exhibitions and events of all kinds) and to publish their creations in a catalog or in commercial media publications; nothing will be due for that, except the obligation to quote the designer (s).
11. AUTHORIZATION
With regard to Italian law 675/96 and subsequent modifications concerning the protection of the privacy of individuals and other subjects concerning the processing of personal data, the contest participants hereinafter authorize the organization of the contest to process data personal information in question for the organization of the competition itself.
