As an integral part of the Chinese efforts to build first-rate universities, the Center for Life Sciences (CLS) was established in 2011 at Tsinghua and Peking Universities. It is supported by the central government through the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the Ministry of Finance (MOF). The mission of the center is to reform education and research, to attract excellent scientists interested in education, to conduct cutting edge research, and to nurture future generations of innovative scientists and educators.
Collaboration in research will be highly encouraged among scientists from the two universities. At each university, the center will anchor faculty members distributed in multiple schools and departments, ranging from biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, to psychology and medicine, nurturing interdisciplinary interactions. The center expects its independent laboratories led by principal investigators to pursue important scientific questions.
Applications are invited for Principal Investigator (PI) at Center for Life Sciences (http://www.cls.edu.cn/english/).
As a pilot program of the National Plan for Education Development and Reform, Center for Life Sciences aims to combine excellence in research and education. We are recruiting scientists with the best potential to carry out creative research of long-term significance in the life sciences. Positions are open at all ranks from Assistant, Associate and Full Investigatorship positions.
The CLS on Peking University side is looking for the best researchers in life sciences and the related interdisciplinary areas. These may include but not limited to: bioinformatics, biochemistry and biophysics, bioengineering, biological physics, cancer researches, epigenetics, cell biology, chemical biology, computational biology, microbiology and virology, human genetics, genetics, genomics, mathematical biology, molecular medicine, molecular neuroscience and cognitive neuroscience, modern imaging, physiology, plant biology, synthetic biology, and systems biology.
Each PI holds a joint appointment in one of the departments or schools at Peking University (such as Chemistry, Computer science, Engineering, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Medical School, Physics and Psychology) where the PI will hold a tenure track or tenured position. Peking University provides a strong environment of interdisciplinary interactions which will be particularly beneficial for modern life sciences research, with scientists distributed in multiple schools, departments and disciplines.
Please send your application materials (a cover letter, a CV, a brief summary of past research accomplishments, and a brief description of your future research plan) in a single PDF file to the contact person: Ms. Wenting Liu (gsmkyb@pku.edu.cn).
Each PI holds a joint appointment in one of the departments or schools at Tsinghua University. Applicants should be a postdoctoral fellow or have a tenure-track or tenured academic position. Scholarship is the top consideration regardless of specific areas of research. Applicants are encouraged to identify one of the following research directions as most relevant to their own research:
1. Developmental Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics and Stem Cell 2. Diseases (Cancer, Metabolism, and Cardiovascular), Physiology and Pathology 3. Biophysics, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology 4. Bioinformatics, Proteomics, Interdisciplinary research, System Biology and Computational Biology 5. Microbiology and Virology 6. Neuroscience 7. Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences 8. Plant Biology 9. Immunology 10. Biomedical Engineering
Located in the northwestern suburb of Beijing, Tsinghua University was established in 1911 on the beautiful site of “Qing Hua Yuan (Tsinghua Garden)”, a part of imperial garden complex. Recognized as one of the best research institutions in China, Tsinghua is striving to develop a world-class research community in life sciences.
Please send your application materials (a cover letter, a CV, a brief summary of past research accomplishments, and a brief description of your future research plan) in a single PDF file to the contact person: Ms. Hongmei Yang (clsky@mail.tsinghua.edu.cn).
