The Volvo Environment Prize is awarded for exceptional scientific innovations or discoveries, which are largely related to the environment.
Since its creation in 1990, the Volvo Environment Prize has become one of the most respected environmental prizes in the scientific world. The prize is awarded by an independent foundation, established in 1988. A scientific committee performs the initial selection and evaluation of the candidates. The jury for the international prize, a group of internationally renowned scientists, makes the final selection of the winner (s).
Eligibility
- The range of disciplines and activities for which applications can be made is wide and includes all disciplines which have a relationship with the environment;
- The search for candidates must be based on scientific bases but must clearly show the impacts outside the specific discipline.
Benefits
The Volvo Environment Prize is awarded annually. The prize consists of a craft diploma, a glass sculpture and a cash prize of 1.5 million SEK (around 140,000 EUR or 150,000 USD). The award ceremony takes place in Stockholm in November of each year.
