The Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto invites applications for a two-year Contractually Limited Term Appointment (CLTA) at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, in the area of Library and Information Science. The position is expected to begin August 1, 2020, or shortly thereafter, and ends on July 31, 2022. The successful candidate will teach primarily in our Master of Information program, in the Library and Information Science concentration, and secondarily in Knowledge Management and Information Management concentration.
We seek individuals who have expertise in knowledge organization, metadata, bibliography/bibliographic control, and information structures. Applicants must have advanced knowledge and professional experience working with the social and technical infrastructure for information access to document collections, broadly construed, specifically within the library context. Fluency in information retrieval and search are helpful. We seek enthusiastic individuals with the demonstrated ability and ambition to advance our Faculty’s rigorous, highly-ranked Master of Information program and a demonstrated commitment to the values and ethics of librarianship, including social justice.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Information Studies, or a relevant field, with a required focus on Library and Information Science, by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter, or a combination of a master’s degree in the field with an exceptional portfolio of professional work and/or an outstanding record of teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels focusing on this area. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement our existing strengths.
Candidates must have teaching expertise in a degree granting program at both the undergraduate and graduate program levels, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence, strong endorsements from referees, superb communication and expository skills, demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities, and the demonstrated ability to expertly incorporate current best practices and professionally-oriented research into our graduate courses.
Evidence of excellence in teaching and pedagogical inquiry can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application including a strong teaching statement, sample syllabi and course materials, and teaching evaluations, as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.
Salary is to be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
