A postdoctoral training opportunity in ocular genetics and genomics is now available in the laboratory of V. Vinod Mootha, M.D. in the Department of Ophthalmology and the McDermott Center for Human Growth and Development at UT Southwestern Medical Center:

https://profiles.utsouthwestern.edu/profile/35544/venkateswara-mootha.html

The Mootha Lab studies the molecular genetic basis of a common age-related eye disease called Fuchs’ endothelial corneal dystrophy. Fuchs’ dystrophy is the most common DNA trinucleotide repeat expansion disorder in humans and the leading indication for corneal transplantation in the United States. Dr. Mootha has elucidated that CUG repeat RNA is the “root cause” of Fuchs’ Dystrophy in a majority of cases. He has collaborated with David Corey, Ph.D. in the Departments of Pharmacology and Biochemistry at UT Southwestern Medical Center to pioneer the development of antisense oligonucleotide and duplex RNA therapeutics for this debilitating degenerative corneal disease: https://www.utsouthwestern.edu/labs/mootha/

The candidate will work on a project aimed to understand the cell type specificity of repeat expansion disorders and the molecular events linking CUG repeat RNA accumulation to end-stage Fuchs’ dystrophy. The candidate will also participate in pre-clinical development of oligonucleotide therapeutics for eye disease.  The candidate will have access to patient derived cell-, patient derived tissue-, and mouse- model systems to study repeat RNA mediated corneal and neurodegenerative disease.  This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate to gain expertise in human genetics, genomics molecular genetics, transcriptomic methods, imaging of the mouse eye, and pre-clinical development of oligonucleotide and gene therapies.

The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree and have strong cell and molecular biology skills.  Information on our postdoctoral training program and benefits can be found in our Postdoc Handbook or at http://www.utsouthwestern.edu/postdocs.

Interested applicants should email a CV, a brief statement of research interests and goals, and a list of three references to:

If you are planning to make the United States your permanent residence and start a new life there, the US EB3 visa could be the way to go. Each year, many EB-3 visas are granted, allowing skilled workers, unskilled workers, and professionals from around the world to live and work in the United States permanently. In this easy-to-follow guide from medjouel.com you will explain the US EB3 work visa process for 2023. We will explain who can apply, what documents you need, how much it costs and why this visa might be a good choice for you .

Understanding the US EB3 Immigrant Visa

The EB3 visa is your gateway to residing and working in the United States permanently, but it comes with certain prerequisites. First and foremost, you need a full-time job offer from a U.S. employer. Let's take a closer look at the three categories of the EB3 visa:

1. EB3 Visa for Skilled Workers

To qualify for the EB3 skilled worker visa, you must have at least two years of experience, training, or education that meets the job requirements. Additionally, you will need a certificate of employment approved by the United States Department of Labor and a valid job offer from a U.S. employer.

2. EB3 Professional Visa

Professionals applying for the EB3 visa must provide proof that they have completed a U.S. bachelor's degree or its foreign equivalent. Like skilled workers, professionals must also obtain approval of a labor certificate from the U.S. Department of Labor and a valid job offer from a U.S. employer.

3. EB3 Visa for Unskilled Workers

Unskilled workers, often called "other workers", do not need two years of prior work experience. Instead, they must demonstrate their ability to perform unskilled work. This category also requires approval of an employment certificate and a valid job offer from a U.S. employer.

US EB3 Work Visa Process 2023 – Step by Step Guide

Now that you understand the eligibility criteria, let's explore the steps involved in the EB3 visa application process:

Step 1: Certification of work (by employer)

The journey begins when your potential employer in the United States obtains labor certification approval from the Department of Labor. (  Click here for more information  )

Step 2: File a petition (by employer)

Once labor certification is obtained, your employer files an Immigration Application for Foreign Worker, Form I-140, on your behalf.

Step 3: Immigrant Visa Application

After receiving the approved employment certificate and Form I-140, the final step is to complete Form DS-260 online, which is your U.S. immigrant visa application.

Step 4: make an appointment

Make an appointment at the American embassy closest to your country to complete your visa application.

Step 5: Maintenance

Attend the embassy interview, where you will present all necessary documents and answer questions. The decision regarding your visa will be made after the interview.

Documents Required for EB3 Visa Application

To ensure a smooth application process, you will need the following documents:

  • Valid international passport with a minimum validity of six months.
  • Passport-sized photographs meeting US visa requirements.
  • Birth certificate.
  • Academic qualification documents.
  • Tax payment records.
  • Job offer from employer.
  • Government-issued identification (e.g. driver's license).
  • Labor Certification from the U.S. Department of Labor.
  • Completed forms.
  • Medical examination documents.

EB3 Visa Costs

The cost of obtaining an EB3 Visa is shared between you and your employer:

  • Filing an immigration petition: $700 (paid by employer)
  • Immigrant Visa Application (Form DS-260): $325 (paid by applicant)
  • Medical examination and vaccinations required (costs vary)
  • For current fees for Department of State services, see Fees  for Visa Services  .

Benefits of the EB3 visa

Choosing the EB3 visa as your immigration route to the United States has several advantages:

  • You will receive a green card without a prolonged wait.
  • An EB-3 visa leads to permanent residency in the United States.
  • Once you obtain permanent residency, you can sponsor your spouse and unmarried children under the age of 21 to obtain green cards.
