Admission Requirements:
Research grants are intended:
– for students enrolled in a degree-conferring course to carry out R&D activities with the aim to consolidate their scientific training through the development of research work leading to the attainment of the respective academic degree or completion of the course (integrated or not in R&D projects).
for students enrolled in courses that do not confer an academic degree but which are integrated in an educational project of a higher education institution and are developed in association or cooperation with one or several R&D units.
1. The candidate must be a PhD student, enrolled in a PhD program by the time of the start of the grant. 2. The candidate must have completed a Master degree (graded minimum 15/20) in physics, physics engineering, telecommunications engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent/similar, with proven background and experience in the design, production and characterisation of optical fibre based sensors for application in eHealth architectures and similar scenarios. 3. Proof of knowledge of simulation using Matlab and Solidworks is a must. Other software skills like Origin or Python will be considered a plus. Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory. 4. Proven hands-on experience with optical fiber sensors design, fabrication, and testing. The jury reserves the option of not selecting anyone if they do not meet the criteria or do not fit the required profile.
Work Objectives:
Design, characterization and implementation of a network of optical fibre based sensors, to detect and continuously monitor the user’s activity within a defined space. The applicant will design the sensing network (type, number and layout of sensors) able to detect vertical forces distribution within a space and identify the source of structural vibrations. The applicant will also be responsible for the sensing network performance evaluation and to define the sensing communication interfaces with the edge/fog node devices.
Applicable legislation:
A fellowship will be celebrated according to the regulations defined by FCT, “Regulation of Instituto de Telecomunicações’ fellowships” and “Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação”, according to Law no. 40/2004, dated August 18 (Status of Scientific Research Fellow), in its actual redaction, and also by Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P.
