International major entrance scholarship

The International Major Entrance Scholarships (IMES) are awarded to outstanding international students entering undergraduate programs at UBC. Students receive their IMES when entering their first year at UBC, and the scholarships are renewable for up to three additional years of study. The number and level of these scholarships awarded each year vary depending on the funding available.

Eligibility

To be considered for IMES, you must:

  • Be new to UBC, enter directly from high school or post-secondary (university or college).
  • Be an international student who will be studying at UBC with a Canadian study permit (student visa). ( Changes to your citizenship status will affect your eligibility for IMES.)
  • Demonstrate exceptional academic success and intellectual promise, as well as impressive extracurricular and community involvement.
  • Not to be nominated for an  international scholarship award  based on need and merit.
  • Apply to UBC by January 15th.

How to register

If you apply to UBC before January 15th, you will automatically be considered for IMES.

Scholarship status

You will be considered for this scholarship shortly after receiving an offer of admission to UBC. Scholarship decisions are made between mid-March and the end of April of each year .

Outstanding international student award

The OIS (Outstanding International Student ) Award is a unique merit-based entrance scholarship awarded to qualified students when offered admission to UBC. Students selected for this award demonstrate academic strength and demonstrate commitment outside of the classroom. 

Eligibility

To be considered for an OIS award, you must:

  • Be new to UBC, enter directly from high school or post-secondary (university or college).
  • Be an international student studying at UBC with a Canadian study permit (student visa). ( Changes to your citizenship status will affect your scholarship eligibility .)
  • Demonstrate exceptional academic results and a strong extracurricular involvement.
  • Not to be nominated for an  international scholarship award  based on need and merit.
  • Apply to UBC by January 15th.

Karen McKellin Award for the International Leader of Tomorrow

The Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award recognizes international undergraduate students who demonstrate superior academic achievement, leadership skills, involvement in student affairs and community service, as well as recognized achievement in fields such as the arts. stage, sports, debates or the creation of competitions and academic exams.

Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award

The Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award recognizes outstanding international undergraduate students from poor or war-torn regions who have achieved academic excellence under difficult circumstances and who could not attend university without financial assistance.

UBC Vantage One Scholarships and Awards

UBC’s Vantage One program is intended for academically strong international students whose English proficiency does not yet meet the requirements for direct admission to UBC.

If you are a new UBC Vantage One student, you are eligible for UBC Vantage One rewards. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic success, intellectual promise and extracurricular or community participation. Some scholarships also take financial need into account. UBC Vantage One rewards include:

  • Major International Entrance Scholarship for Vantage One
  • Vantage One entry price
  • Vantage One Award of Excellence

The time to process the application and eligibility criteria vary for the different scholarships UBC Vantage One. The nominations are now closed for the year academic 2019/20.

Scholarships and awards for current international students

UBC continues to support international students through a variety of in-program scholarships and awards. The amounts of scholarships and scholarships will vary, as will their renewal.
