Institute of Healthy Ageing; Research Department of Genetics, Evolution & Environment London Research Fellow

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £35,965 – £43,470 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

Applicants are invited for a full-time post-doctoral position, in the group of Dr. John Labbadia, to study the interplay between protein quality control pathways, protein homeostasis and ageing.

The successful applicant will use Caenorhabditis elegans and mammalian tissue culture models to determine the precise mechanisms through which increased activity of the transcription factor HSF1 maintains protein homeostasis and promotes long-term health. To this end, the role holder will use a combination of phenotypic assays, molecular techniques, cutting edge microscopy and high-throughput approaches to investigate the impact of HSF1 on rates of ageing in different tissues.

The post is funded by BBSRC for 3 years in the first instance and available to start from October 2020.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a PhD in a related field and previous experience in C. elegans husbandry, mammalian tissue culture techniques and molecular biology. Candidates for the post should be confident working independently and committed to cultivating a collegial research atmosphere within the group and across the department. In addition, the successful candidate should have excellent organisational skills, be extremely conscientious, take responsibility for their work, be collaborative and have a passion for scientific research.

PhD (or be studying towards it) in relevant subject area; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £31,479 – £33,194 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis
