UQAM is seeking qualified candidates to renew its faculty and ensure the development of innovative high-quality teaching and research

In accordance with its development plan, the Department of Biological Sciences is seeking a forest ecologist in the area of forest dynamics and vulnerability to climate change to fill an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) faculty position. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent and supportive research program in the targeted area while bringing broader expertise to the Department.

Criteria:

  • PhD in forest ecology or related subject
  • Research expertise in the study of the dynamics and vulnerability of boreal and temperate forest ecosystems to climate change impacts
  • interest in the impacts of climate change on forest management and potential adaptation strategies for forest management
  • teaching experience
  • postdoctoral experience
  • excellent publication record in the above areas
  • ability to communicate in French or a willingness to learn (see below)

The successful candidate will join one of the largest forest ecology research groups in Canada the Centre for Forest Research (CFR), in a very dynamic department, including various research groups in forest, aquatic, evolutionary and behavioural ecology. The successful candidate will be expected to interact closely with members of the CFR to ensure the continuity of UQAM’s internationally recognized excellence in forest sciences. He/she will also be encouraged to collaborate with other ecologists in the Department of Biological Sciences as well as with other researchers in the Faculty of Science at UQAM.

The candidate will be expected to support the various undergraduate and graduate programs of the Department of Biological Sciences and the Institute of Environmental Sciences. He/she will teach in some of the following areas: general ecology, plant diversity, forest ecology, ecosystem ecology, forest ecosystem management, methods in ecology. She/he will actively participate in the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students. Since courses are taught in French, any non-French-speaking person will be able to benefit from a French language training period, but will have to quickly master spoken and written French to obtain tenure. The individual will also be expected to participate in departmental, faculty, university and multi-stakeholder committees (government agencies, granting agencies and scientific organizations).

START DATE: Preferably July 2022
SALARY: According to the Professors Union (SPUQ)-UQAM collective agreement
