Multiple Post-doctoral positions in “Genetics and Epigenetics of Brain Functions”

Genetics and Epigenetics of Behavior

You’ will be working in the laboratory of “Genetics and Epigenetics of Behavior”, a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where biologist, geneticists, behavioral and computational neuroscientists collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research on sleep and circadian behaviors.

The Genetics and Epigenetics of Behavior (GEB) Research Line is coordinated by Dr. Valter Tucci, who has extensive experience in sleep, circadian clock, and epigenetics.

We are studying the role of genomic imprinting in sleep, and we recently developed a novel system engineered as programmable and tissue-specific epigenome editing technology. The scope of our invention was to provide a control system that can precisely and timely regulate the expression of target mammalian genes by rewriting their epigenetic landscape without introducing changes to the underlying DNA sequences. We achieved a remarkable modulation of the many gene targets in vitro. The candidates for these positions will work to advance our technology to an in vivo proof of concept.

Moreover, this is a modular technology, which it means that can target different genes and then is suitable to be used in the treatment of different diseases. Additional applications, currently under consideration in our lab, involve neurodevelopmental disorders.

We are currently looking for 2 molecular biologists, 1 neuroscientist with experience in vivo and 1 computational neuroscientist to develop machine learning tools to analyses behavioral phenotypes.

Within the team, your main responsibilities will be:

To design and conduct experiments related to the main topic of the Research Line

To supervise PhD students and/or undergraduates

To write scientific articles and to present at international conferences

WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU SHINE

• A PhD in Biotechnology, Biology, Computer Science or related areas, including experience in neuroscience and/or epigenetics, and similar disciplines
• Documented experience on molecular biology or cellular biology or machine learning
• A strong publication record
• The ability to properly report, organize and publish research data
• Documented experience in coaching junior scientists
• Good command in spoken and written English
