Apply for a doctorate at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine

THE DESCRIPTION

The Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine is an internationally renowned biomedical research center in Berlin. It is named after Max Delbrück, Nobel Prize winner and one of the founders of modern genetics and molecular biology.

The European Research Council (ERC) considers MCD grants to be one of the most prestigious research grants in Europe. Doctoral calls. applications are open in  spring   and   fall  each year (generally around May for fall recruitment and in November for spring recruitment).

ADVANTAGES

  • All costs during the interview week, including travel, visa, accommodation and food costs will be covered by the MDC. Initially, applicants must cover all travel expenses by yourself and the money will be refunded to you after the interview week.
  • There are no MDC Grad School tuition fees, however, after enrolling in university, accepted applicants must pay the semester fees of approximately. 350 EUR, including public transport tickets.
  • Doctoral students receive a work contract according to the German public system, including health and social insurance, as well as a pension scheme.
  • The initial contract is for 3 years and the net salary amounts to around 1600 euros per month.

ELIGIBILITY

    • Applicants must hold a  university degree equivalent to a master’s (MSc)  , including a research thesis in biology, biotechnology, medicine, molecular medicine, chemistry, computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics or a related field.
    • Applicants who continue their studies should expect to receive their diploma   no later than 6 months after the   date of  the interview  .
  • The final grade required for the master’s degree is ≥ 75%, or a German score of at least “good” (<2.5 out of 5)
  • Applicants must, at the time of the interview, be in the first four years of their research career (master’s degree obtained at the latest 4 years ago) and must not already have a doctorate.
  • Applicants must have a good command of written and spoken English, while German skills are not required. (English proficiency test recommended for non-native speakers).
