Post-Doctoral Research Position “ Plastic Litter in the Aquatic Environment“ Basel, Switzerland

The research group man-society-environment of the Department of Environmental Sciences is looking for a post doctoral research fellow to expand the microplastics team. Our research group studies the occurrence and fate of micro-, meso- and macroplastics in aquatic environments. We have previously published foundational work on microplastics in a major river in Europe, as well as the Antarctic region, studied the interaction of plastics with aquatic organisms, and developed efficient methods for identification and quantification of microplastics.

Research: The postdoctoral fellow is expected to contribute to the research projects in our group, such as colonization of plastic material by microbes and multicellular organisms, or litter studies in urbane environment and in remote regions.

Teaching: The position includes a 3h/week teaching commission in the Master Course on Sustainable Development and the supervision of master students.
Expected qualifications:

Mandatory:

• PhD in biology, environmental sciences, or in another relevant natural science discipline
• Proven knowledge and experience in quantitative methods and statistics
• Extensive experience and expertise in micro-, meso- or macroplastics field work, separation, and analysis
