The Department of Medicine at McMaster University invites applications for a Cardiologist to join the Division of Cardiology at McMaster University and the Hamilton Health Sciences. This is a full-time faculty position for a period of three years (renewable). Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Clinical activities for this position will occur primarily at the Hamilton General Hospital and will be focused on the outpatient cardiology clinic. Specific clinics will include the general cardiology clinic, lipid clinic and structural heart clinic. Specific training in the management of patients following TAVR and mitra-clip is required. Responsibilities will also include the delivery of inpatient care at the General site, but also occasionally at the Juravinski site. There will be no access to cardiac catheterization, echocardiography, or other imaging modalities as part of this position.

Applicants will have completed speciality training in Cardiology and additional training in structural heart management. This role will have the possibility for administrative leadership and the applicant would be considered for a leadership role in the comprehensive cardiology clinic. They will also be expected to contribute at least 30% of their time to teaching. This will entail teaching in the outpatient clinic, including supervision of longitudinal clinics for cardiology residents. It will also include participation in the cardiology inpatient teaching unit at the Hamilton General Hospital. The applicant will also play a regular role in Problem-Based Learning education for undergraduate students. They will also participate regularly in the cardiology bootcamp and there will be a pathway to a leadership role for this activity. The successful candidate will be a full-time member of the Department of Medicine, McMaster University and will be expected to participate in all the appropriate departmental and divisional educational activities.

Candidates should have demonstrated the ability to collaborate with all members of the healthcare team, including non-physician health care providers.

The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology of the Université de Montréal (UdeM) and the CHU Ste Justine (CHUSJ) Research Centre are together inviting applications for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level in the field of mammalian reproductive or early developmental biology.

We are seeking an innovative, dynamic, and collaborative individual who has already established an international profile of research achievements in gamete development, fertilisation, or early embryo development. This includes, but is not limited to the developmental origins of health and disease such as the impact of environmental and lifestyle factors upon the health of offspring, and how these impacts can be transferred epigenetically across generations. Research programmes focussed on fundamental aspects of reproduction, gamete and embryo development, and translational work directed towards advancing the field of infertility treatment are also welcomed. It is envisaged that the successful individual may work with model systems but would also take advantage of the CHUSJ Assisted Reproduction Center, which is a rich on-site resource with which to perform translational studies of early human development.

Principal Investigator Assistant or Associate Professor In the area of : Drug discovery assisted by Artificial Intelligence (AI) Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC) Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, Faculty of Medicine

The Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC) in partnership with the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of Université de Montréal (UdeM) invites applications for a Principal Investigator and Assistant or Associate Professor position in the area of Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence applied to the search for new treatments in human health, including mainly small molecules and possibly some aspects of chemical biology such as unnatural biopolymers (amino acids or nucleic acids) or natural products.

In particular, we are looking for an exceptional scientist to lead a research program in machine learning/artificial intelligence applied to drug discovery, which may include, but not limited to: predictions of compound activity, predictions of compound physical/pharmaceutical properties, virtual screening of drug librairies, drug optimization, and design of retrosynthetic schemes. The candidate should be an experienced specialist in developing artificial intelligence algorithms, including for example, deep learning networks, reinforcement learning, diffusion models, massive language models, or any other relevant techniques.

IRIC’s primary goal is to better understand the biological processes that contribute to cancer and identify ground-breaking avenues in the development of effective therapies. IRIC is located in a state-of-the-art building on the main campus of UdeM. It currently hosts 27 Principal Investigators and nearly 450 trainees, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research associates and support staff. IRIC also comprises several cutting edge core facilities, including Bioimaging, Biophysics & NMR, Flow Cytometry, Genomics, High- Throughput Screening (chemical, RNAi, and CRISPR), Bioinformatics, Histology, Medicinal Chemistry, Proteomics, and In Vivo Biology/Animal facility. Most importantly, IRIC houses one of the largest Drug Discovery Units in an academic setting in Canada. Its activities are led by a team of 65 expert chemists and biologists who have extensive drug discovery experience in an industrial setting. A collegial, dynamic and curiosity-driven research environment is a defining feature of the Institute.

Assistant Professor of Teaching is the first rank in UBC’s Educational Leadership Stream, followed by Associate Professor of Teaching (with tenure), and then Professor of Teaching. This path is analogous to the Research stream faculty progression of tenure-track Assistant Professor, tenured Associate Professor, and Full Professor. Postdoctoral Research Assignment “Μetabolomic Characterization of Tissue Generation Process”

The Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences, Foundation of Research and Technology - Hellas, (FORTH/ICE- HT) is seeking applicants for one postdoctoral research assignment in the context of the research project “Precision Manufacturing of Microengineered Complex Joint Implants (JOINTPROMISE)” ) - Grant Agreement number: 874837, which is implemented under the H2020 Research and Innovation Action.

Job Description

To carry out, under a part-time work or a fixed-term employment contract, experimental and analytical work on the metabolomic characterization of cell cultures for tissue generation. The job will also involve participation in the implementation of JOINTPROMISE project deliverables, participation in meetings and preparation of reports to the FORTH team PI and the Coordinator.

Location: FORTH/ICE-HT, Patras, Greece

Duration: up to 9 months, with the potential of renewal or extension according to the needs of the project

Salary: up to approximately 1100 € per month (total cost of the employer, including social security and taxes) depending on the qualifications and time devoted to project

Envisaged starting date: 1/11/2023

Requirements and Qualifications

The applicant should hold a B.S or Diploma in Natural Sciences or Engineering, a PhD in Natural or Health Sciences or Engineering. Post-doctoral experience of at least 2 years is required.  Proven participation in funded research projects and publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Candidates must have good knowledge of Greek and English (Level B2). At least 3 years’ experience in cell culture techniques is required. Expertise in advanced cell physiology characterization techniques, with emphasis in mass spectrometry metabolomics is highly preferable. Experience in European grant participation would be favored.

The evaluation of the candidacies will be based on the following criteria and qualifications:

The explosion of the Internet, the pervasive uses of technologies in daily activities and many environments, including remote home working, impose ever more mental workload upon operators and less physical load. The principal reason for measuring workload (MWL) is to quantify the mental cost of performing tasks to predict human performance. In turn, performance prediction can be used for designing interfaces, technologies, and information-processing activities optimally aligned to the well-known human mental limited capacities. Despite 60 years of effort, research on MWL has not been able to make major advances yet, failing to provide a model of understanding. Guess intuitions and several field-dependent definitions have proliferated, but these disagree about the MWL sources, its attributes and their impact on human performance. Identifying these and how they impinge on human potential are all open research problems. The project will focus on multi- disciplinary research in the area of Mental Workload (MWL) modelling leading to a major understanding of the construct (fundamental breakthrough). It will provide human-centred designers with an interpretable and explainable model of MWL for real-time prediction of task performance, a revolutionary contribution to the field of Human-Computer Interaction (applied breakthrough). This contribution will allow human-centred designers to develop and rapidly test their interactive technologies and information-processing procedures aligned to the limitation of the mental capacity and that maximises human potential.

Le programme d'innovation de dix mois se concentrera sur les inventeurs et les innovateurs ayant des idées fondées sur la recherche dans le secteur des systèmes alimentaires avec un fort potentiel de perturbation et d'impact sur la sécurité alimentaire en Afrique de l'Est. 
Ce que nous recherchons
Nous invitons les candidatures d'innovateurs et de chercheurs qui ont des innovations fondées sur la recherche concernant les systèmes alimentaires en Afrique de l'Est. The ten-month innovation programme will focus on inventors and innovators with research-backed ideas in the food systems sector with a high potential for disruption and impact towards food security in East Africa. 
What We Are Looking For
We invite applications from innovators and researchers who have research-backed innovations addressing food systems in East Africa.   The call for applications is open for teams with food system ideas grounded in research, whether from academia or practical experience, even if they haven’t formally registered their businesses yet.   We especially encourage applications from youth, women-led teams and innovators from underserved populations based in East Africa.

Evaluation Criteria
The IGNITE SEED Innovation programme is looking for High-potential, research-backed ideas or interventions with a focus on disrupting the following areas in the food system.
While all solutions are invited to apply, priority will be given to ideas that address food security and improve climate resilience for local communities so they can:
    • Improve local food production, quality, or nutrition.
    • Reduce or eliminate post-harvest loss or food waste.
    • Increase access to water for productive use or contribute to water saving
It will evaluate entrepreneurs that submit their innovations based on the following criteria:  
    1. Founded in academic, industry-led or experimental research
    2. Impact on strengthening regional food systems
    3. Feasibility and viability of implementing the idea
    4. Potential to achieve initial traction within the innovation programme
    5. Clarity of vision and the idea
    6. Team strength, experience, and commitment
