Postdoctoral Scholarship in Molecular Biology – University of Gothenburg

Sweden
Posted 3 years ago

A postdoctoral scholarship is available to study the mechanisms behind cardiac troponin
elevations in patients. The project involves the induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) derived cardiomyocytes and animals as model systems. The position is in the Hammarsten group at the department of Laboratory Medicine, Institute of Biomedicine at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Project Description
The project aims to investigate the Cardiac troponin (cTn) elevations observed in clinical conditions without obvious connection to cardiac injury which is linked to a poor prognosis. IPSC derived cardiomyocytes will be the main model, but some animal studies are also included. A variety of molecular biology techniques such as immunohistochemistry and microscopy will be used to determine the mechanism of troponin release and uptake in cardiomyocytes and animal models. This project is run in parallel to clinical studies of patients with stable elevated troponin levels.

Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate who has recently obtained a PhD in molecular and cell biology. The applicant should have documented experience in cell culture, preferably stem cells or iPSCs as well as animal handling. Further, documented experience in common molecular biology techniques for DNARNA and protein analyses (such as immunohistochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, PCR, Q-PCR, cloning, and transfection) is required. Knowledge of biomarkers, biochemistry/chemistry, and cardiovascular pharmacology is an advantage. The candidate is expected to contribute to the design as well as execution of the experimental work. The suitable candidate will be able to work independently and in collaboration with others. Fluency in spoken and written English is essential.

The scholarship:
Funding is in the form of a tax-exempt scholarship. The funding is provided by Hjärtlungfonden for a maximum of two years.
