The Department of Forest Resources Management, Faculty of Forestry, The University of British Columbia (Vancouver Campus) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor of Teaching rank. The UBC Faculty of Forestry is excited to prepare and offer a new Bachelor of Indigenous Land Stewardship (BILS) program, commencing in September 2024, which is an interdisciplinary, four-year undergraduate program created to prepare students to build and operate comprehensive land stewardship systems that are grounded in Indigenous earth-based land ethics – systems that can operate in complex inter-governmental environments and foster our next generation of land stewards. The program includes innovative and diverse courses in areas such as Indigenous ways of knowing, building strong communities, natural resources, community engagement, holistic resource stewardship, ecology, law and governance, business management, research and data management methods, and community capacity building.

Required Qualifications: The candidate must have a PhD in Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Forestry, or a related area. Consideration will be given to promising applicants who are very near completion of a doctorate degree by the time of appointment. The successful candidate will provide evidence of excellence in, and commitment to, teaching and learning, and enthusiasm for developing and utilizing Indigenized and culturally appropriate teaching pedagogies in diverse multi-cultural settings. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of past Indigenous educational leadership and/or clearly articulated plans for future educational leadership and an ability to bridge world views to yield positive results for all. Experience in course design is required and candidates must also have a strong and demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching at the undergraduate level considered an asset. Professional experience as an Indigenous educator, Indigenous lands and/or research manager or field technician with experience related to Indigenous land stewardship or other closely related fields is also highly desirable. The candidate will be responsible for a range of educational activities and course delivery and should demonstrate outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills and Indigenous cultural competencies through prior experience with similar teaching loads or management of complex projects. Experience in broader curriculum development or other educational initiatives that will advance the University’s ability to excel in its teaching and learning mandate is preferred.

Position Duties:

The successful candidate will design and teach undergraduate courses primarily within this new Bachelor of Indigenous Land Stewardship program as well as undertaking educational leadership activities as an Assistant Professor of Teaching. The successful candidate will provide instruction starting in year 1, in some or all courses on: (i) Decolonization and Natural Resources, (ii) Holistic Resource Stewardship, and (iii) Community Engagement: Principles, Practices, and Protocols. Furthermore, it is anticipated that the candidate will participate in mentoring students and supporting the cohesion of the student cohort. The successful candidate will also be expected to actively contribute to program initiatives to both promote the program and enhance the student

Promotion and tenure in UBC’s Educational Leadership stream is based on teaching, service, and educational leadership. Educational Leadership is broadly defined as activity taken at UBC and elsewhere to advance innovation in teaching and learning and must have impacts that extend beyond one’s classroom (see greater detail regarding educational leadership in Section 3.4.1 of Senior Appointments Committee (SAC) Guide. The successful candidate will therefore be expected to engage in educational leadership activities in consultation with the Program Director.

The Department of Biology in the Faculty of Science at Western University invites applications for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Global Animal Migration Ecology. Western University is world-leading in the study of animal migration, with faculty from five Departments involved in the Centre for Animals on the Move (CAM: uwo.ca/cam), and world-class facilities including the Advanced Facility for Avian Research (AFAR: birds.uwo.ca/) and the LSIS-AFAR stable isotope lab. Western researchers are heavily involved in the Motus Wildlife Telemetry System (motus.org/). We seek an established scholar who uses experimental, observational, and/or modelling approaches to address fundamental questions about animal migration and movement. Preferred candidates’ research programs should consider multiple spatial scales, including global or trans-hemispheric scales, in any non-human animal taxa. Preferred candidates should apply innovative methodologies in field and/or lab studies. The ability to leverage local and regional infrastructure, such as the AFAR, LSIS-AFAR, Motus, or Western Space, establish local collaborations, and expand expertise in the CAM will be considered assets.

Job Description

We are looking for individuals who maintain community, research, and/or teaching relationships in Northern regions. Candidates will have a strong record as an interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary scholar with experience in Indigenous, decolonizing, and/or community-based methods and methodologies, focused on key challenges and opportunities in the North, from social sciences perspectives, including but not limited to:

  • community and individual wellness and healing;
  • culture and language preservation, promotion, and reclamation;
  • food systems, food sovereignty, and food security, including Northern agriculture;
  • Indigenous, land-based, and/or placed-based education and pedagogies;
  • human-nature connections and relationships;
  • cultural, natural, marine, and terrestrial resources and communities;

The DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in the Finance and Business Economics Area. The position will begin on July 1, 2024. Appointment rank (Assistant or Associate) will depend on qualifications and research records. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to research and scholarship through publishing in high-quality journals in financial economics, participating in prominent national and international academic conferences, actively pursuing research grants, and supervising research in their areas of expertise. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the School's undergraduate and graduate academic programs at both its Hamilton and Burlington locations, and support the School’s initiatives within the business, academic and other external communities.

The minimum requirements for the position include (i) a Ph.D. in Finance or Financial Economics from an accredited institution (by the time the appointment starts); (ii) evidence of a strong scholarly record in peer-reviewed journals or the potential to establish a strong scholarly record; and (iii) evidence of, or strong potential for, teaching excellence.

The Finance and Business Economics Area, the largest of eight Areas comprising the DeGroote School of Business, is committed to excellence in both research and teaching. Pour renforcer son équipe et répondre aux besoins croissants de formation et de recherche dans le domaine, le Département d’études sur l’enseignement et l’apprentissage recrute une professeure ou un professeur pour assurer des cours et développer des travaux de recherche portant sur l’enseignement et l’apprentissage avec le numérique et plus spécifiquement sur le recours à l’intelligence artificielle en  éducation.

La personne retenue sera appelée à enseigner aux trois cycles universitaires. Elle sera également appelée à conduire des recherches et à superviser des étudiantes et des étudiants inscrits aux cycles supérieurs, de même qu’à participer aux instances pédagogiques et administratives du département, de la faculté et de l’université.

Critères de sélection :

  • Doctorat terminé ou en voie d’achèvement en technologie éducative, sciences de l’éducation, informatique ou domaine connexe;
  • Connaissance approfondie des divers enjeux soulevés par l’intelligence artificielle en éducation : les perspectives théoriques, les pratiques, les problèmes éthiques, environnementaux, les contextes concernés;
  • Expérience reliée à l’application de l’intelligence artificielle à des fins pédagogiques : par ex. l’intégration dans les pratiques de systèmes de recommandation pour un apprentissage personnalisé, l’utilisation de l’analyse prédictive en lien avec les processus d’apprentissage, d’outils d’intelligence artificielle générative;
  • Compétences pour assurer, au 1er cycle et aux cycles supérieurs, des enseignements en lien avec les usages de technologies numériques et plus spécifiquement sur le recours à l’intelligence artificielle en éducation;

Description du poste Le Département de linguistique et de traduction sollicite des candidatures pour un poste de professeure adjointe ou de professeur adjoint à temps plein en technologies de la traduction et intelligence artificielle.

Fonctions La personne retenue sera appelée à enseigner aux trois cycles, à assurer l’encadrement aux études supérieures, à poursuivre des activités de recherche, de publication et de rayonnement ainsi qu’à contribuer au fonctionnement de l’institution.

Les activités d’enseignement consisteront notamment à former les étudiants et étudiantes de premier cycle à l’utilisation de la traduction automatique, aux technologies de la traduction et à l’exploitation de l’intelligence artificielle en traduction.

Les activités de recherche et d’enseignement aux cycles supérieurs porteront sur les questions théoriques et méthodologiques des technologies de la traduction, en particulier la traduction automatique neuronale, l’intelligence artificielle et le traitement automatique de la langue dans une perspective multilingue.

La personne retenue sera appelée à développer ou consolider des collaborations avec les milieux professionnels et établir des ponts avec les équipes de recherche œuvrant en intelligence artificielle, à Montréal, au Canada et à l’international.

Le dossier de la personne retenue, selon son expertise et son intérêt, pourrait être proposé pour un poste de Professeur.e IVADO. Ces postes offrent des conditions de démarrage bonifiées. School of Global Health, Faculty of Health

The School of Global Health in the Faculty of Health at York University invites highly qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream position in Experiential Education in Global Health. This is a teaching-centered, tenure-track appointment to commence July 1, 2024.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses and to provide creative educational leadership in enhancing teaching and learning through curricular and pedagogical innovation in the classroom and at the program level. The successful candidate will also be expected to lead the practicum course and will take a leadership role in the coordination of the undergraduate program in the first instance.

The successful candidate would be expected to lead and teach core courses for the Specialized Honours degree: such as Global Health Practicum (GH 4300), Applied Global Health Research Capstone (GH 4400), Agents of Change in a Global World (IHST 1020), and Foundations of Global Health (GH 1010). The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in pedagogical innovation in areas, such as experiential education, community engagement, decolonizing approaches, and/or technology enhanced learning. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to interdisciplinary teaching, student experience, and supporting curriculum development within the School.

Candidate Qualifications:

Degree: PhD or PhD equivalent (e.g., MD) from the health sciences, social sciences, or humanities and a record of academic experience in a global health-related field is required.

Teaching:

  • A record or evident promise of excellence in teaching at the university level and dedication to students (e.g., teaching accomplishments, pedagogical innovations, student and/or peer evaluations).
  • A record or evident promise of making valuable contributions through administrative and committee service.
  • A strong commitment to pedagogy and student success, the capacity to bring a theoretical and practical orientation to experiential education teaching, learning and program design, and evidence of good judgment and a reflective approach to innovation in teaching. Experience with curriculum development and universal design approaches to teaching and assessment is preferred.
  • The successful candidate will be familiar with a range of pedagogical, philosophical, and disciplinary lenses relevant to global health and demonstrated expertise in, at least, one of the following: health advocacy, health education, health promotion, social determinants of health, global governance, and/or intersectional, anti-colonial, or anti-oppression frameworks
  • Suitability for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, given that the position may involve graduate teaching and supervision.

Additional: Experience working outside of academia in global health policy or practice would be an asset but is not required.

Responsibilities Under general supervision of the Senior Director of University Advising and in consultation with the Dean of the College and as part of a team of College Directors, the Director of College Advising will advance the mission of the university, the colleges, and the Division of Academic Affairs by providing leadership in implementing the vision, goals, and objectives of the academic advising enterprise at CSUN. The incumbent is responsible for the overall management, direction, and implementation of academic advisement in the college's Student Services Center/Educational Opportunity Program (SSC/EOP) Satellite.

  • Serves as a member of the University Advising Council and will collaborate with central administrators, other Directors of College Advising, and student leaders on best practices and strategies in advisement, as well as ongoing professional development of college advisors.
  • Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates advising staff, ensures effective use of advising technologies, degree planning tools, regular use of data analytics, including disaggregated data, to drive priorities, and assists with University efforts to assess campus-wide academic advisement.
  • Identifies opportunities to remove administrative barriers to student success and eliminate equity gaps, communicates and interprets CSU and University policies to faculty advising within the college, staff, and students, and communicates and coordinates services and activities with academic departments and entities.
  • As a leader, demonstrates a commitment to student success that is mission aligned with the university's vision, values and priorities. Establishes an ethical and collegial work environment, promoting a collaborative, accountable and inclusive team.   • Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a job-related field.
  • Equivalent to two (2) years of progressively responsible professional/administrative experience.
  • Additional experience in caseload advising as a CSU Student Services Professional (SSP) or equivalent highly preferred.
  • Experience working with minoritized and other underserved communities, first-generation students and Pell-eligible students preferred.
  • Experience in advising and related programming that helps close equity gaps among diverse student populations preferred.

  • Ability to: plan, coordinate, and direct the work of subordinate staff engaged in various professional, technical, and clerical functions; exercise considerable judgement and discretion in effectively establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships within diverse multicultural environments; quickly learn and apply a variety of CSU and CSUN policies and procedures, collective bargaining agreements, and state and federal labor laws.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • Salary is commensurate with knowledge, skills, and experience. The University offers excellent fringe benefits.
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $95,004 - $105,000 annually, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
  • The position is currently hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.

The successful candidate will teach 3 courses per semester (3/3) for the first two years of their appointment, and 4/4 thereafter, with the potential of course reduction based on grants and/or other service-based releases. The successful candidate will teach courses in social welfare/social justice, other courses in specialization areas, and have research interests in social welfare/social justice. There will also be opportunities to teach in the Sociology Master's degree program. In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participation in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion.
