CARD Research Fellowship Program

The National Institute on Aging (NIA) Intramural Research Program (IRP), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is seeking applications from highly motivated individuals for the Center for Alzheimer’s and Related Dementias (CARD) Research Fellowship Program located in Bethesda, MD.

CARD is a collaborative initiative between the NIA and National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) that supports basic, translational, and clinical research on Alzheimer’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease related dementias (AD/ADRD). CARD’s central mission is to initiate, stimulate, accelerate, and support research that will lead to the development of improved treatments and preventions for these diseases. The new Center, which features a state-of-the-art facility and cutting-edge technology, serves as a collaborative hub for research in the AD/ADRD space, leveraging the highly collaborative and collegial nature of the Intramural Research Program.

The CARD Research Fellowship Program provides postdoctoral scientists an opportunity for significant exposure to performing and leading state of the art biomedical research and a platform with which to design and build their portfolio of research and scientific management skills as they seek a fully independent position. The CARD Research Fellow will play a substantial role in the design and implementation of a research direction and program in the space of AD/ADRD. Research Fellows do not receive independent resources, although they are expected to work independently and have sophisticated skills and knowledge essential to the work of the Center.

Over the period of the fellowship, the successful applicant will gain significant training in and exposure to managing resources, designing and running independent research programs, and seeking funding and support for their own research goals. The successful candidate will have access to CARD resources and expertise of CARD personnel to execute established and proposed research initiatives. The research direction of the successful candidate(s) will be guided by the Director of CARD, relevant Principal Investigators, and a mentoring committee of subject matter experts. The successful candidate will be interacting with the scientists from the IRP and scientific community at large.

While applications are not limited to the current areas of work listed on the CARD website, they must be aligned with the mission of CARD and in the space of AD/ADRD. In general, CARD research programs should be highly complementary and interrelated, so synergy with existing programs will be a key factor in evaluating applications. A Research Fellow is a NIH Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) employee who is on a time-limited, renewable appointment. While the duration of this appointment may be dependent on a number of factors, an initial appointment is typically 2-3 years. Candidates for the CARD Research Fellowship Program must have no more than four years of postdoctoral experience at the time of application.

Eligibility

The successful individual must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in neuroscience, genetics, genomics, or related fields, with productive postdoctoral experience as demonstrated by outstanding scholastic achievement and the ability to successfully conduct laboratory research with minimal supervision, as evidenced in publications and through letters of reference. At the time of application, candidates must have no more than 4 years of postdoctoral research experience. Candidates must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident (green card, resident alien), or foreign national with a valid employment-authorized visa.

Le laboratoire SyMMES du CEA Grenoble propose un poste post-doctoral à un jeune candidat qualifié et très motivé pour développer de nouveaux matériaux avec des nanocristaux de pérovskite sans Pb encapsulés dans les pores de silice mésoporeuse pour la photoréduction du CO2. Le postdoc travaillera sous la direction de Dmitry Aldakov (chercheur CNRS), coordinateur d'un projet collaboratif français. L'objectif global du projet est de produire des combustibles solaires précieux en utilisant comme absorbeurs de lumière des pérovskites halogénées moins toxiques encapsulées dans diverses matrices nanoporeuses. Plusieurs paramètres seront testés : tailles de pores, types de matrices nanoporeuses, chimie des pérovskites pour améliorer leur stabilité et contrôler leur taille. Les nanocristaux de pérovskite obtenus cultivés dans les pores seront étudiés par diverses méthodes pour identifier leur composition chimique, leur structure et leur stabilité. Plusieurs traitements (passivation de surface, dopage etc.) seront réalisés pour améliorer encore les propriétés optiques des nanocomposites et établir des relations structure-propriétés.

Un candidat doit être titulaire d'un diplôme récent équivalent à un doctorat reconnu internationalement en science des matériaux, en chimie ou en physique. Les candidats doivent avoir démontré une expérience et une expertise pratique dans la synthèse chimique et la caractérisation de pérovskites halogénées et/ou de points quantiques colloïdaux (nanocristaux). La connaissance des techniques de DRX et de microscopie ainsi que certaines compétences en synthèse de lignes de Schlenk et/ou en boîte à gants seront un avantage.

Offer Description

The SyMMES lab at CEA Grenoble is offering a post-doc position to a young qualified and highly motivated candidate to develop novel materials with Pb-free perovskite nanocrystals encapsulated in the pores of mesoporous silica for CO2 photoreduction. The postdoc will work under superirvision Dmitry Aldakov (CNRS researcher), coordinator of a French collaborative project. The overall goal of the project is to produce valuable solar fuels using as light absorbers less-toxic halogenated perovskites encapsulated in various nanoporous matrices. Several parameters will be tested: pore sizes, types of nanoporous matrices, chemistry of the perovskites to enhance their stability and control their size. The obtained perovskite nanocrystals grown in the pores will be studied by a variety of methods to identify their chemical composition, structure, and stability. Several treatments (surface passivation, doping etc.) will be performed to further improve the optical properties of the nanocomposites and establish structure-properties relationships. The most promising optimized nanomaterials will be used for the efficient photocatalytic CO2 reduction into solar fuels in collaboration with an academic partner.

A candidate must hold a recent internationally-recognized PhD-equivalent degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, or Physics. Candidates should have demonstrated experience and hands-on expertise in the chemical synthesis and characterization of halogenated perovskites and/or colloidal quantum dots (nanocrystals). Knowledge of XRD and microscopy techniques as well as some skills in Schlenk line and/or glovebox synthesis will be an advantage.

We are looking for a scientist with an outstanding international reputation in the field of Analytical Chemistry. The thematic research focus should be on a current topic in organic analytical chemistry, such as - but not limited to - clinical and bio-analytics, environmental analysis, analysis of natural and synthetic macromolecules and polymers.

The holder of the position will be responsible for teaching courses in analytical chemistry.

Project Description BlueHealthTech links competencies in Kiel area in marine research (Blue), health care and industry (Health) to generate novel technological approaches to improve the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of chronic diseases. The program exploits the regionally available technical and analytical knowledge for sustainable development of innovative health technologies (Tech) in new multidisciplinary partnerships. Marine fungi have high biosynthetic capability for producing novel and bioactive secondary metabolites with pharmaceutical relevance. The main aim of the BlueHealthTech-funded project MarPiM is to assess preclinical efficacy and development potential of marine fungal natural products against skin cancer by using state-of-the-art methods of fungal biotechnology, marine natural product chemistry, multi-omics, bioanalytics and innovative imaging techniques. Job Description We are seeking a highly skilled post-doctoral researcher with demonstrated expertise in large scale microbial fermentation and downstream natural product chemistry. The candidate will initially optimize the upscaled fermentation (300 L) of target marine fungi and extract the fungal broth. This will be followed by i) LC-MS/MS-based untargeted metabolomics analysis, ii) mass spectrometry- and bioactivity-guided isolation and iii) structure elucidation of anticancer fungal metabolites. The candidate will work closely with project partners at Kiel University for determination of in vivo efficacy and mechanism of action of the target molecules. The candidate will actively manage the project and related administrative tasks. He:She will be  expected to write publications/patents/project reports and contribute to assessment of project results for potential development. This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious post-doctoral researcher to further develop their career on microbial drug discovery and development that can make impact on human life. Our labs at Research Unit Marine Natural Products Chemistry are equipped with state-of-the-art chemical facilities including in-house UPLC-QTOF-MS coupled with DESI Imaging Mass Spectrometry, HPLC-DAD-MS, HPLC-HRMS, GC-MS, automated extraction systems such as Accelerated Solvent Extraction (ASE) and Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE), FT-IR, polarimeter and related databases, as well as excellent microbiology/biotechnology facilities and over 75 running in vitro biological assays. Our in-house microbial culturing facilities span from small (1 L) to large-scale (300 L fermenter), as well as access to sequencing facilities. GEOMAR has full access to high-resolution (cryo-) NMR facilities at Kiel University. We lead or participate multiple collaborative EU or national research projects.
Selection process
The position is funded by the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) and available for a funding period of 36 months. The salary depends on qualification and could be up to the class 13 TVöD-Bund of the German tariff for public employees. This is a full-time position and the position can be basically split. We are seeking to recruit a Research Assistant for the project "Virtual Reality for the generation of immersive learning situations in art and creativity" of the Edul@b research group of the University's Psychology and Education Sciences Studies. The project "Virtual reality for the generation of immersive learning situations in art and creativity" aims to support educational centers and teachers for the design, development and evaluation of immersive projects that, taking advantage of virtual reality and network collaboration, contribute to the development of a critical look at built space, sensitive to people's needs and committed to sustainability.   Project objectives: Promote a process of transformation of educational centers, aligned with the center's digital strategy, with the support of interdisciplinary immersive projects that focus on art and creativity. Design prototypes of Virtual Reality (VR) that allow immersion in virtual environments that facilitate the approach to art and the space built in the curricular framework through the creation of immersive learning situations. Accompany with specific training the development of digital competence to accredit level B (B1 or B2) of the teachers involved in the implementation of the projects in the participating centers. Encourage critical citizen participation in relation to the architectural and artistic environment through the design and development of interdisciplinary immersive projects. Generate a collaboration network for the involvement of the educational community, understood in the broadest sense (entities, cultural institutions, educational centers, researchers, etc.) in the digital transformation process of the centers. Evaluate the project process and results. Disseminate the products of the project (especially the immersive situations created by the students) and the results of the research associated with the process.   Responsibilities: Coordination of the research group with cultural entities and educational institutions Face-to-face and online support in schools for the design and implementation of projects Stimulation of the network between all members of the group

The Department of Biology in the Faculty of Science at the University of Waterloo invites applications for two full-time definite term faculty positions as Lecturers. One position will be in Cell and Molecular Biology and the other in the area of Human Biology. Both positions have an anticipated start date of January 1, 2024. The initial appointment will be for three years, with the possibility of renewal for an additional two or three years. Beyond that, promotion into a Continuing Lecturer position is possible. The salary range for the Definite Term Lecturer rank is $75,000 to $95,000 for 12 months.

The successful candidate will normally teach five lecture courses over three terms per year, these courses may include genetics, cell biology, molecular biology and human anatomy and physiology. In addition to developing, updating, and teaching courses, the successful candidate will have opportunities to have a substantial role in advising students and developing the Biology undergraduate programs more broadly. We are seeking energetic and dynamic candidates who will be able to contribute substantially to the teaching and research efforts of the Department in software engineering.  Candidates with expertise in all areas of software engineering will be considered, including cybersecurityextended reality (AR/VR/MR)software evolution and architecturesoftware maintenance and quality assurance or distributed systems.

For a probationary appointment, successful candidates will have a Ph.D. degree in Electrical, Computer or Software Engineering, or relevant similar field, demonstrate excellence or clear promise of excellence in research, including evidence of high-quality scholarly output that demonstrates independent research potential leading to peer assessed publications and the securing of external research funding.  Candidates should provide evidence of teaching at the university level and will be expected to teach a variety of fundamental undergraduate and graduate courses in Software Engineering as well as advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of specialization.  In addition, candidates are expected to supervise graduate students and participate in other educational and professional activities including administrative duties within the Department, Faculty and University.  The ability to become eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario is required for this appointment.

Supported by the Office of the President, this postdoctoral fellowship was established in memory of Professor Carlos Eduardo Castañeda (1896–1958), a UT Austin alumnus, librarian, and faculty member who was instrumental in the creation of the renown LLILAS Benson Latin American Collection.  This postdoctoral fellowship appointment period begins September 1, 2024 and ends August 31, 2026.

La Société internationale pour la qualité de l'air intérieur et le climat (ISIAQ) a reçu une subvention de 3 ans alors qu'elle travaille au développement d'une base de données sur les lignes directrices IEQ.
L'ISIAQ est un organisme international, indépendant, multidisciplinaire, scientifique et à but non lucratif dont le but est de soutenir la création d'environnements intérieurs sains, confortables et productifs. En tant que société, l’un de nos rôles est d’élaborer, d’adapter et de maintenir des lignes directrices pour l’amélioration de la qualité de l’air intérieur et du climat. Nous coopérons également avec le gouvernement et d’autres agences et sociétés ayant des intérêts dans l’environnement intérieur et le climat.

Université de technologie de Varsovie (Pologne)

En 2016, la Fondation Halton a accordé une subvention de trois ans à l'Université de technologie de Varsovie en Pologne. La subvention a été accordée pour un projet de recherche qui crée des lignes directrices en matière d'environnement intérieur pour les chambres de patients dans les hôpitaux en Pologne. Le projet examine la répartition de l'air des pièces, les variables microclimatiques et les valeurs limites et explore des solutions technologiques rentables qui peuvent être utilisées pour la modernisation et l'amélioration des pièces. Le projet vise à créer un programme principal avec des recommandations pour un environnement cible spécifique. La subvention est versée progressivement, par étapes, à condition que les conditions de l'étape précédente soient remplies. Il s'agit de la quatrième subvention accordée par la Fondation. Université de Reading et  Université de Chongqing 

La troisième subvention, d'une valeur de 29 500 dollars, a été accordée fin 2013 à l'Université de Reading pour un projet sur  l'environnement intérieur des écoles et les stratégies de contrôle de la ventilation pour la santé et le bien-être des enfants . Le but du projet est d'améliorer la santé et le bien-être des écoliers en étudiant les conditions environnementales intérieures et en développant des stratégies de contrôle pour atténuer le niveau de contamination des salles de classe situées dans les zones urbaines. Il s'agit d'un projet de recherche conjoint entre l'Université de Reading et l'Université de Chongqing en Chine. Projet de poêle himalayen 

La deuxième subvention de la Fondation Halton a été accordée en 2012 à la Paul Basch Memorial Foundation pour l'aider dans son projet Himalayan Stove visant à améliorer la santé des habitants de la région trans-himalayenne. Le projet Himalayan Stove Project se consacre à l’amélioration de la santé des populations de la région transhimalayenne. L'organisation fournit gratuitement des cuisinières à combustion propre et très économes en carburant aux familles vivant dans l'Himalaya qui cuisinent désormais avec des cuisinières traditionnelles rudimentaires ou sur des foyers ouverts à l'intérieur de leurs maisons, consommant des quantités excessives de combustible précieux et polluant l'air intérieur. niveaux dangereusement malsains. Centre pour enfants courageux 

La Fondation Halton a accordé sa première subvention au  Centre for Courageous Kids  situé à Scottsville, Kentucky. Le Centre est un camping médical qui propose des camps d'été et de week-end gratuits aux enfants gravement malades ou handicapés et à leurs familles. Le Centre a reçu une subvention unique de 30 000 dollars.

La subvention de la Fondation Halton permet au Centre for Courageous Kids d'organiser un camp d'été d'une semaine pour les enfants asthmatiques.

Halton Foundation focuses on indoor air quality, thermal conditions, breathable particulates, and illnesses that may result from sub-standard indoor environmental quality.

Halton Foundation has awarded grants in the past six years totaling over 165 000 Euros. Grants have been awarded in several areas including helping children with asthma, funding for the Himalayas Stove project, and providing grants to universities that research indoor environmental quality.

Who can apply?

Grants are typically awarded to non-profit organizations researching how to improve human wellbeing in indoor environments. Grants may also be applied by organizations that develop solutions aiming for better indoor environmental quality.

What kind of grants are awarded?

  • One time grants which are single-year grants for a specific purpose
  • Multi-year grants for no longer than three years
  • Start-up program grants
Depending on the scope and nature of the project or program, the amount of the grant may vary between thousands of dollars and tens of thousands of dollars. Grants shall not exceed 30 000 € per year.

Applying for a grant

Grants are awarded based on grant applications.  The application period is from July 1st to September 1st. Requests for grants may be made by filling out and submitting the grant application form. The application must be submitted electronically with all attachments listed. Please note that the Halton Foundation will only allow 10% of project costs to be allocated for overhead and administrative expenses. This is non-negotiable, and all successful applicants must meet this requirement.

Propose a grant candidate

Decision on grants is made by November 1st. The successful applicant will be notified of the grant award and the grant decision will be announced in the Foundation website. Halton Foundation will sign a Grant Agreement with the charitable organization receiving the funds. The grant receiver must also provide information about the use of the funds for the purpose intended.

 The International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate (ISIAQ)  

The International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate (ISIAQ) was awarded a 3-year grant as they are working toward developing a database on IEQ guidelines.
ISIAQ is an international, independent, multidisciplinary, scientific, non-profit organization whose purpose is to support the creation of healthy, comfortable and productive indoor environments. As a Society, one of our roles it to develop, adapt and maintain guidelines for the improvement of indoor air quality and climate. We also cooperate with government and other agencies and societies with interests in the indoor environment and climate.

Warsaw University of Technology (Poland)

In 2016, Halton Foundation awarded a three-year grant to Warsaw University of Technology in Poland. The grant was awarded for a research project that creates indoor environment guidelines for patient rooms in hospitals in Poland. The project looks at the rooms’ air distribution, microclimate variables, and limit values and explores cost-efficient technological solutions that can be utilized in the modernization and further improvement of the rooms. The project aims at creating a principle program with recommendations for a specific target environment. The grant is paid gradually in stages provided that the requirements of the previous stage are met. This was the fourth grant awarded by the Foundation. University of Reading and Chongqing University 

The third grant, with the value of 29,500 dollars was awarded in the end of 2013 to the University of Reading for a project on School Indoor Environment & Ventilation Control Strategies for Children’s Health & Wellbeing. The purpose of the project is to improve health and wellbeing for school children by investigating the indoor environmental conditions and developing control strategies to mitigate the level of contaminations for the classroom located in the urban areas. Himalayan Stove Project 

Halton Foundation’s second grant was given in 2012 to the Paul Basch Memorial Foundation to help in its Himalayan Stove project in improving heath of people in trans-Himalayan region. The Himalayan Stove Project is dedicated to improving the health of the people in the trans-Himalayan region. The organisation provides free, clean-burning, highly fuel-efficient cook stoves to families living in the Himalayas who now cook with traditional, rudimentary stoves or over open fire pits inside their homes, consuming excessive amounts of precious fuel and polluting the indoor air to dangerously unhealthy levels. Center for Courageous Kids 

Halton Foundation awarded its first grant to the Center for Courageous Kids located in Scottsville, Kentucky. The Center is a medical camping facility that provides cost-free summer and weekend camps for seriously ill and disabled children and their families. The Centre was awarded with a 30,000 dollar one time grant.

The grant from the Halton Foundation enables the Center for Courageous Kids to organise a one week summer camp for children with asthma.

The aim of the City of Mount Gambier Sport and Recreation Capital Works Program is to foster and assist in the development and/or capital renewal of sport and recreation infrastructure within the city.

Applications are now open for 2023/2024 with submissions closing on Monday, 4 September 2023. Please refer to the below Guidelines and Application Form for details.

As a general rule, applications should be for projects with a minimum total cost of $10,000 and a maximum total cost of $50,000. Preference will be given to applications that demonstrate a high incidence of self help as evidenced by matching funds or significant in-kind contributions by the organisation.

The applicant's contributions for this purpose may include cash from the organisation's own resources, grants or funds from sponsors or other sources or in-kind support in the form of labour or services. If the applicant's contribution includes a grant from another source, the applicant must provide evidence that the grant has been awarded or confirmed with an application under this program.

La CESAO lance le troisième cycle du  Prix du contenu arabe numérique pour le développement durable , en collaboration avec les  World Summit Awards  (WSA). Le prix récompense les meilleurs produits de contenu numérique arabe liés aux  objectifs de développement durable  (ODD).

Les candidatures pour le prix sont ouvertes aux  institutions et aux jeunes entrepreneurs  des pays arabes qui ont créé des applications ou des produits de contenu numérique arabe ayant un impact évident sur la société.

  • Les institutions  peuvent être publiques, privées, universitaires, de la société civile, non gouvernementales ou autres parties prenantes, avec des produits existants qui soutiennent la réalisation des ODD.
  • Les jeunes entrepreneurs  peuvent être des fondateurs de start-up, ou des équipes de jeunes ou des individus dont au moins un des fondateurs et la plupart des membres de l’équipe ont moins de 35 ans.

Les candidatures peuvent être effectuées via une plateforme dédiée jusqu'au 15 octobre 2023 . De plus amples informations sur les conditions de participation sont disponibles dans le règlement et les conditions du prix , qui ont été fixés par le comité directeur du prix. Les soumissions seront évaluées par un jury d'experts de la région arabe, et les produits lauréats seront annoncés lors du  Forum arabe annuel 2024 pour le développement durable .

ESCWA is launching the third cycle of the ESCWA Digital Arabic Content Award for Sustainable Development, in collaboration with the World Summit Awards (WSA). The Award recognizes the best digital Arabic content products that relate to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Applications for the Award are open to institutions and young entrepreneurs from Arab countries that have created digital Arabic content applications or products with a clear impact on society.

  • Institutions can be public, private, academic, civil society, non-governmental, or other stakeholders, with existing products that support the achievement of the SDGs.
  • Young entrepreneurs can be start-up founders, or teams of young people or individuals where at least one of the founders and most of the team are younger than 35 years old.

Submissions can be made through a dedicated platform until 15 October 2023. More information about the requirements for participation is available in the Award rules and conditions, which have been set by the Award steering committee. Submissions will be evaluated by a jury of experts from the Arab region, and the Award winner products will be announced during the 2024 annual Arab Forum for Sustainable Development.
