Description: The Public Diplomacy Section of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad is pleased to announce an open competition for eligible organizations to submit proposals to develop and implement a project to support women ages 18-30 to enter and succeed in information technology careers. Proposals should focus on the following areas: (1) providing women participants with advanced computer and technology training; and (2) facilitating issuance of Information Technology certifications from certified U.S. institutions. The Women and technology Program will: Provide participants with advanced computer and technology training that should include, but not be limited to, the following: o  Information and Network Security o  Web Design and Development o  System Administration o  Database Management o  Cybersecurity o  Network Engineering Facilitate issuance of Information Technology certifications from certified U.S. institutions that will enhance students’ employability. The project should include, but not be limited to, the following certificates (Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP.) Send the top-notches (8-10) to visit one or more U.S.-lead tech establishment to exchange knowledge, real world experience, and to be exposed to the Americana. Create and maintain a sustainable professional network of support for women in tech industries in the United States.

L'appel à candidatures est annoncé pour l'admission au cours de doctorat en linguistique, philologie-littéraire et sciences politiques et sociales, cycle XXXIX - 2023/2024 AY, dont le siège administratif est à l'Université pour étrangers de Pérouse. Le cours a une durée de trois ans et comprend 9 places, dont 6 places avec une bourse financée par l'Université et 3 places avec une bourse à thème restreint NRRP cofinancée avec les ressources prévues par le décret ministériel 118/2023 (bourses de doctorat NRRP - Inv.4.1). Le cours est divisé en trois programmes :

Admissibilité

Les demandes d'admission au cours de doctorat mentionné dans l'article précédent peuvent être soumises par ceux qui possèdent les titres suivants à la date d'expiration de cette annonce :
  1. diplôme universitaire selon l'ancien système (avant le décret ministériel 509/99);
  2. diplôme de spécialisation (décret ministériel 509/99) ou maîtrise (décret ministériel 270/04);
  3. diplôme académique équivalent aux diplômes visés dans les lettres précédentes, ou diplôme académique de deuxième niveau délivré par des établissements appartenant au secteur AFAM (Enseignement Supérieur Artistique et Musical) ;

About

The call is announced for applications for admission to the PhD course in Linguistics, Philological-Literary and Political-Social Sciences, XXXIX cycle - 2023/2024 A.Y., with administrative headquarters at the University for Foreigners of Perugia. The course has a duration of three years and includes 9 places, 6 places of which with a University-funded scholarship and 3 places with an NRRP restricted topic scholarship co-financed using resources provided for by Ministerial Decree 118/2023 (NRRP PhD scholarships - Inv. 4.1). The Course is divided into three curricula:
  1. Linguistics and language teaching;

SCHOLARSHIPS The amount of the scholarship is €16,243.00 per year gross of social security contributions to be paid by the scholarship holder, increased by 50 per cent for a total period not exceeding 12 months if the PhD student is authorized by the Teachers Board to carry out research activities abroad. This period can be extended up to a maximum of 18 months for doctorates in co-supervision with foreign subjects.

Duration

The course has a duration of three years and it will begin approximately in November 2023.

Eligibility

Applications for admission to the PhD course referred to in the previous article can be submitted by those who possess the following titles by the expiration date of this announcement:
  1. university degree under the old system (prior to Ministerial Decree 509/99);
  2. specialist degree (Ministerial Decree 509/99) or master’s degree (Ministerial Decree 270/04);
  3. academic qualification equivalent to the degrees referred to in the previous letters, or second-level academic qualifications issued by institutions belonging to the AFAM sector (Higher Art and Music Education);
  4. analogous academic qualification obtained abroad at an officially recognized academic institution (Master’s degree or equivalent), judged suitable by the selection board for the sole purpose of entering the PhD program. This qualification must be comparable to the Italian “Laurea Magistrale” in terms of level and must be valid for enrollment in an academic course similar to a PhD in the country of origin.

Requests for funding are reviewed quarterly. We appreciate as much lead time as possible. The greater the advance notice we are given, the better decisions we can make regarding your application. The quality of your application and timing of the application is also very important. Only applications received prior to the published deadlines will be reviewed at the next regular meeting of council. CHAIR

Carrie graduated from the University of Guelph in 2003 with a degree in both Political Science and French. After spending 12 years working in the agriculture industry, she made the switch to steel and is currently employed at Vicwest in Stratford.  She enjoys learning, is fascinated by culture, and loves to travel. She is honoured to have had the opportunity to participate in various exchange programs through The Rural Ontario Institute, and Rotary International.  Carrie and her husband Alex reside in Wellesley, and they can both be found at the curling rink as many days per week as possible.  She loves the Olympics, animals, reading, music, and a smorgasboard of physical activities.

Un des objectifs principaux du Festival Amani est de soutenir l’entrepreneuriat des jeunes au KIVU.

Dans le cadre de l’Espace entrepreneuriat, le Festival Amani organise son 9ème concours d’entrepreneuriat au cours duquel de jeunes entrepreneurs pourront présenter leur projet d’entreprise face à un jury d’experts. Les trois équipes gagnantes du concours recevront chacune un prêt sans intérêt pour le démarrage de leur entreprise ainsi qu’une formation et une incubation de 6 mois.

LE CONCOURS

Le Concours Entrepreneurs 2024 est une compétition de projets de création d’entreprises. Le principe est simple : présenter un projet à vocation marchande face à un jury d’experts.

LES PRIX

Les trois équipes gagnantes du concours recevront chacune un prêt sans intérêt allant de USD 2000 à USD 5000 pour le démarrage de leur entreprise ainsi qu’une formation et une incubation de 6 mois.

DÉROULEMENT DU CONCOURS

1. Inscriptions Les entrepreneurs devront, pour participer au concours, remplir le formulaire d’inscription au plus tard pour le 16 septembre 2023.

2. Sélection Durant le mois de septembre 2023, un comité international d’experts évaluera les projets présentés des points de vue économique, social et environnemental, et sélectionnera les 10 projets les plus porteurs selon ces critères.

3. Formation Pendant 3 mois, les 10 entrepreneurs sélectionnés participeront à une formation intense et à un coaching de préparation au sein du Hub Un Jour Nouveau à Goma et/ou ORHEOL à Bukavu. Cette première formation vise à préciser et mettre en forme l’idée de base du projet d’entreprise, pour qu’elle soit présentable et défendable devant des investisseurs potentiels.

4. Finale Présentation Orale du Projet le 15 février 2024 : les dix équipes sélectionnées défendront leur projet lors d’une présentation orale devant un jury constitué d’entrepreneurs chevronnés. Les trois équipes gagnantes seront ensuite proclamées par le jury lors de la cérémonie officielle et pourront bénéficier d'un prêt sans intérêt allant de USD 2000 à USD 5000 pour démarrer leur entreprise. Cette remise des prix se tiendra lors du Festival Amani le weekend du 16 au 18 février 2024, le lieu reste à confirmer.

5. Incubation A l’issue de la finale du concours, les trois lauréats intègrent la deuxième phase de la formation pour une durée de 3 mois d’incubation. Cette deuxième formation aide l’entrepreneur à mettre en place les différents éléments de son projet d’entreprise, pour que celle-ci devienne opérationnelle dès réception du prix du Festival.

6. Suivi du projet durant 3 ans après la remise du prix Les projets lauréats sont suivis durant 3 ans par l’équipe du Festival Amani. Durant cette période, les entrepreneurs doivent présenter un rapport trimestriel de leurs activités et de la situation financière de leur projet. Pour assurer un bon suivi et conseil au projet, Amani réalisera un audit de celui-ci tous les ans.

PROMOTION DE L’ENTREPRENEURIAT AU FÉMININ

La participation des femmes à l’économie est un enjeu fort en termes de dignité, de paix et de développement. Le festival Amani affirme son engagement à en faire la promotion. Ainsi les projets portés par des femmes ou permettant une meilleure inclusion des femmes dans les activités économiques seront regardés favorablement par le comité de sélection et le jury.

CONDITIONS D’ADMISSION

- Être porteurs d’un projet d’entreprise (et bénéficier de la propriété intellectuelle relative à ce projet) - Être résidant à Goma et/ou Bukavu - Être âgé entre 18 et 35 ans - Le postulant doit être le porteur de projet ou membre fondateur de l'entreprise concernée (dans le cas d'un partenariat avec 2 ou 3 co-fondateurs).

ENGAGEMENT

L’inscription au concours est gratuite. Toutefois, l’inscription implique l’engagement moral, tant vis-à-vis des organisateurs que vis-à-vis de ses équipiers à : - Travailler pour votre entreprise un minimum de 30 heures par semaine à présent mais aussi après la sélection - Aller au bout du processus d’élaboration du projet d’entreprise si celui-ci est sélectionné pour atteindre le stade de la finale. - Participer à une formation intense et à un coaching de préparation au sein du Hub Un Jour Nouveau à Goma et/ou ORHEOL à Bukavu; pour une durée de 3 mois. A l’issue de la finale du concours, les lauréats intègrent la deuxième phase de la formation pour une durée de 3 mois d’incubation. - Présenter son projet devant le jury le 15 février 2024 - accepter le règlement du concours - remplir le formulaire d’inscription au plus tard pour le 16 septembre 2023.

The purpose of the Joan Shorenstein Fellowship Program is to advance research in the field of media, politics and public policy and facilitate a dialogue among journalists, scholars, policymakers and students.

ABOUT THE JOAN SHORENSTEIN FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

The Joan Shorenstein Fellowship Program is designed to bring journalists, scholars, politicians and policymakers to the Shorenstein Center for a semester to work on a project with a tangible output, and engage with students, faculty, other fellows, and the broader Harvard Kennedy School community. They are expected to be fully-participating members of the Shorenstein Center community while in residence, attending and participating in Center events, social gatherings, and other activities.

Alumni fellows join the Shorenstein Center’s Alumni Fellows Network, to stay connected with the Center and the large and growing group of former fellows all around the world.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

Career professionals from a variety of related fields are welcome to apply. Past fellows include journalists from local, national and international TV, radio, print, and digital media; media and civic technology innovators; nonfiction authors; documentary filmmakers; political advisors and policymakers; leading academic scholars in fields such as media research and political science; and policy analysts.

The guidelines below offer further detail on the types of experience that lead to a successful application and fellowship experience; however, if you unsure if you are eligible we encourage you to contact our staff to discuss further.

  • Journalist: Reporters, editors, columnists, producers, media business executives and related, with a minimum of ten years of full-time experience either at professional news organizations or as a full-time freelancer (not including work completed as a university student).
  • Politician: Someone who has been elected to a national or high-level state office, or high-level communications professionals within politics and policy, e.g. speechwriters, press secretaries. Minimum of ten years experience (can be cumulative between elected office and other roles).
  • Scholar: Tenured or tenure-track professor employed by a college, university or research institution in political science, political communication, journalism, technology studies, sociology, computer science, or a field relevant to the Shorenstein Center’s areas of inquiry.
  • Policymaker: High-level official in a cabinet office, or policy adviser to a candidate for national office or high-level elected official.
  • Documentary Filmmaker: Documentary filmmakers and/or academics and practitioners with expertise in documentary filmmaking as it relates to public interest media, and/or its intersections with journalism. Minimum of 10 years experience.

Applicants should not have participated in another fellowship within the two years prior to their preferred semester.

Applicants must be fluent in English – listening, reading, writing and speaking. Non-native English speakers must provide TOEFL or IELTS score.

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF A FELLOW?

Applicants must be available to be in residence, full-time, for the duration of their fellowship (Fall Semester: September through December, Spring Semester: February through May, or Full Year: September through May) in Cambridge, MA.

The Fellowship is a full-time appointment, and applicants are expected to commit to the work of completing their primary research project and engaging in the life of the Center, its activities and events. It is understood that busy modern professionals will have occasional essential obligations, and the Center aims to be considerate and flexible in such circumstances. However, any applicant with professional, personal or travel commitments that would require significant time away should consider applying when their schedule allows for the full commitment of a fellowship.

WHAT WILL I BE WORKING ON?

The quality and originality of an applicant’s project proposal is a key deciding factor in the selection process. The primary deliverable for a fellow is a research-based project that contributes to broad understanding of an issue within the information ecosystem, or addresses a problem related to journalism, media, public interest technology, or decision science (with ideal candidates focusing on the intersection of at least two of these areas and with an eye towards politics and/or public policy solutions). Project topics should fit into the existing work of the Center but provide a new angle or area of focus that is not covered specifically by one of the Center’s existing programs

Projects can take many forms, including white paper, policy paper, annotated bibliography, podcast, video, or interactive. Projects should have an anticipated impact in society, and applicants should be able to clearly articulate their project’s desired impact.

Fellows often work independently, with the assistance of a faculty mentor and research assistant, but some have also conducted a series of workshops with students, with the final output taking the form of a report or project illustrating the conclusions of the workshops.

Fellows’ projects are published on the Shorenstein Center website, and many have been cross published or excerpted in a variety of high-profile media outlets and academic journals, or have become the basis for a longer book.

LIFE AS A SHORENSTEIN CENTER FELLOW

In addition to their primary research project, fellows are expected to participate in a range of activities throughout the semester, including:

  • Minimum of one public speaking event and one student-facing event (workshop, roundtable discussion, etc.) per semester
  • Bi-monthly articles/interviews/expert opinion pieces for the Shorenstein Center site or one of the Center’s program sites (The Journalist’s Resource, etc)
  • One video interview/profile for the Center’s website
  • Periodic student office hours (1-2 hours per month)
  • Regular meetings with fellowship cohort and faculty mentors
  • Final internal report of activities and output

The Center hosts several high-profile evening events each semester, including its long-running Theodore H. White Lecture on Press and PoliticsRichard S. Salant Lecture on Freedom of the Press, and its flagship Goldsmith Awards featuring the presentation of a prize for the best investigative reporting of the year, and a career award for excellence in journalism. Fellows are encouraged to attend.

Elsewhere on campus, the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum frequently features speakers from the highest levels of government for lively discussion and debate. The Kennedy School’s other Centers and initiatives regularly host experts in a wide variety of topics, and Shorenstein Center fellows are often asked to speak. And the wider Harvard University calendar features hundreds of activities and events each week, including lectures, panels, exhibitions, music, theater, film, sports and much more.

Fellows receive a Harvard ID, which allows for discounted membership to Harvard’s athletic facilities as well as tickets to museums, exhibitions, movies, sports and the performing arts. Previous fellows have used their free time to explore the rich cultural and historical offerings of the Boston and New England area. Several fellows have brought their partners, spouses or families with them for the semester, many of whom get involved in a variety of Harvard activities open to the public. We are not able to provide spouses or family members with Harvard IDs.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AND OTHER RESOURCES

Fellows receive a stipend, paid in monthly installments at the end of each month of their term. Travel, housing, and living expenses are not covered by the Shorenstein Center.

Fellows are provided with a desk in the Shorenstein Center offices, a Harvard email address, and a Harvard ID allowing access to libraries and other resources.

Fellows are also able to select a paid Harvard Kennedy School student research assistant (eligible to work up to 10 hours per week) to help with their projects.

The successful candidate will work on childhood neuroblastoma and paraganglioma in the research group headed by Susanne Schlisio:

The research is performed in an interdisciplinary setting with strong collaboration with clinical departments and other national and international research groups.

We are seeking a motivated, creative post-doctoral candidate interested in exploring drivers of intratumor heterogeneity and phenotypic plasticity in childhood neuroblastoma and paraganglioma.

Intratumor heterogeneity and high plasticity account for therapy resistance. Causes of plasticity cell state transitions during tumor progression remain poorly understood. Currently, there is no effective treatment that addresses cancer heterogeneity. Systematic characterization of dynamic properties of intratumor heterogeneity and phenotypic plasticity can guide treatment strategies and improve clinical outcome for cancer patients. We aim at elucidating the origin and heterogeneity of paraganglioma and childhood neuroblastoma by developing a new analytic and experimental approach based on spatial transcriptomics and single-cell transcriptomics with integrated mass spectrometry. We use organoids, cell lines and generate novel tumor mouse model systems and include human tumors to perform comparative differentiation trajectory analysis, to make predictions and, finally, to perform preliminary validations of envisioned tumor differentiation strategies.

In addition, we are also looking for motivated, creative post-doctoral candidates interested in cancer metabolism with knowledge in mitochondrial biology, biochemistry and molecular biology. We currently defining how mitochondrial dynamics and mass is related to cancer therapy resistance.

Division and Duties

We offer a highly interdisciplinary environment , integrating computational biology with cancer and developmental biology. We develop new analytic and experimental approaches based on single nuclei transcriptomics and spatial transcriptomics to explore intra-tumor heterogeneity and plasticity. Furthermore, we generate novel tumor mouse model systems and include human tumors to perform comparative differentiation trajectory analysis, to make predictions and, finally, to perform preliminary validations of envisioned tumor differentiation strategies.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent. A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent. To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Qualifications:

  • We are looking for a highly self-motivated person with a strong background in cellular and molecular biology with a keen interest in nervous system tumors.
  • Experience in mitochondrial biology, molecular and cellular biology techniques, confocal imaging and mouse modeling is highly desired; and good ability to communicate in English (written and verbal) is required.
  •  A documented ability to independently carry out experimental research projects is required
  • We are looking for independent and driven candidates who have at least one first-name publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

Type of scholarship

We are now looking for 1-2 doctoral researchers to work in the field of mechanics of metallic materials in the research group of Prof Junhe Lian at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Aalto University. In this position, you will have a chance to conduct challenging and rewarding research to characterize and simulate the mechanical behavior of metallic materials under a variety of environmental factors, which make great impacts in the research and industrial fields of automotive, aerospace, and energy applications related to the upcoming hydrogen economy.

Our studies in the research group feature a unique and highly interdisciplinary character. The overall ambition is to develop digital solutions in material mechanics by combining advanced experimental techniques, mechanics-based high-performance simulation, and data science-assisted computation. The research topics are driven by academically challenging questions in the field of material mechanics, which involves the deformation, fracture, and hydrogen embrittlement behavior of engineering materials. The research funding comes from major EU and national projects spanning from ERC, RFCS, Research and Innovation, to Future Makers.

Your role and goals

You will be responsible for advancing the fundamental understanding and modeling of mechanics of engineering materials with focuses on i) plasticity and fracture for large deformation, in particular anisotropy and loading history, and ii) multiphysics coupling with thermal and hydrogen interaction. The research involves conducting mechanical experimental work and developing material models/computational techniques to describe the material behavior. You will also manage large-scale and high-performance supercomputer simulations at the Finish Supercomputer Center (CSC) and develop data-based tools to analyze and discuss your results. The work will engage research tasks in several national and EU-funded projects with internal and EU partners. Participating in program meetings and network events is expected. As part of the doctoral program, you will also gain experience in teaching and supervising students. Your experience and ambitions

The position and our expectations

The position is open at the Water and environmental engineering research group, Department of Built Environment under School of Engineering. Our goal is to find solutions to tackle resource scarcity and ensure a more sustainable future. The group's research and teaching focus on water and development, water governance, water resources management, environmental hydraulics and fluvial processes, and water and wastewater engineering.

We are looking for an ambitious professional to contribute to ground-breaking academic work in the field of water supply and sanitation. The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Have strong expertise in one or several of the following fields: sustainable drinking water treatment solutions for boreal climate conditions, asset management, resource efficiency of water distribution and wastewater collection systems, and climate change adaptation in water services.
  • Participate in teaching water engineering, process and network design basics at both the BSc and MSc (under WAT Master’s programme) levels. Important topics for our curriculum include sustainable water supply and sanitation, network management and maintenance, as well as utility management.
  • Initiate research projects on water supply and sanitation, such as integrated urban water system management, natural organic matter treatment (related to drinking water solutions), and critical asset prioritization methods.
  • Lead a research group, educate doctoral students, and produce high-quality research that can be published in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Disseminate research results and contribute to the progress of the school and department, enhance its international visibility, and engage with the society.
  • Be willing and able to collaborate with different industrial and public service sectors, as well as colleagues both at Aalto University and across the global community. Existing networks will be seen positively when reviewing applicants.

Requirements

A doctoral degree in Water and Wastewater Engineering or a related field is a prerequisite for the position. Well-demonstrated collaboration skills and an excellent command of English are essential. The evaluation of applicants will be based on their excellence and future potential in scientific research and teaching, as well as their active role within national and global industries and the international science community.

Scientific awards and recognitions, along with experience in acquiring and applying for funding, preferably academic competitive funding, are considered important advantages. The research group of prof. Patrick Willems focuses on the study of hydrological extremes (floods, droughts) by means of hydrological, hydraulic and water balance models and statistical methods, the impacts of climate change and climate adaptation solutions.

Project

Recent summers have been the driest of the last decades. Many studies indicate that droughts and water scarcity may become “the new normal” in the future in Flanders. In addition, climate change increases rainfall extremes, which results in more floods. These drought and flood risks impact nearly all sectors, including agriculture, drinking water supply, ecosystem functioning, shipping and public safety. Although the Flemish policy is highly oriented at integrated water management and the implementation of source control measures, current practices do not succeed in significantly reducing the risks induced by climate change and urbanisation. Blue-green or nature based solutions are among the priority measures. Typical blue-green solutions include infiltration basins, upstream wetlands, swales, buffer strips, mulching or re-meandering. In practice, it has proved to be challenging to understand how to best plan, implement and scale blue-green solutions. Little is known about the effectiveness (or side-effects) of these measures on a larger scale.
This PhD research project (4 years working as PhD researcher in close cooperation with other researchers in an interdisciplinary team) aims to improve the design, facilitate the planning and increase the implementation rate of blue-green adaptation strategies. Central is the scientific knowledge gain on the quantification of (large scale) impacts and benefits of blue-green solutions on catchment hydrology (floods and droughts). More, specifically, the research project will develop methods that allow to properly represent the blue-green adaptation measures in catchment scale hydrological models, and to evaluate the impact of various types of adaptation scenarios for actual and future climate conditions. This will be done for selected case studies in Flanders region of Belgium.

Profile

Master of Civil Engineering, Bioscience Engineering or Water Resources Engineering, with interest in water management, nature based solutions and the implementation of spatially distributed hydrological models for river catchments. Good programming skills including Python is a must.

Our research group studies the occurrence and fate of micro-, meso- and macroplastics in aquatic environments. We have previously published foundational work on microplastics in a major river in Europe, as well as the Antarctic region, studied the interaction of plastics with aquatic organisms, and developed efficient methods for identification and quantification of microplastics.
