WIN Leadership Accelerator est un programme intensif de carrière et de leadership de neuf mois destiné aux journalistes et rédacteurs travaillant en Afrique, dans la région arabe et en Asie du Sud-Est. Le programme accepte 100 à 150 candidats par an. Les femmes professionnelles des médias des pays suivants peuvent postuler : Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Somalie, Tanzanie, Ouganda, Zambie, Zimbabwe (WIN Afrique), Égypte, Jordanie, Liban, Palestine (région arabe WIN), Myanmar, Vietnam. , les Philippines et l'Indonésie (Asie du Sud-Est).

• Grâce à une combinaison de coaching, de formation, de mentorat et de réseautage, nous permettons aux journalistes et rédacteurs qui participent au programme d'acquérir de nouvelles compétences et de renforcer leur capacité à diriger et à se transformer.

Exigences

• Le WIN Leadership Accelerator s'adresse aux rédacteurs et journalistes de niveau intermédiaire à senior sur les marchés d'intervention de WIN.
• Les participants doivent avoir deux à trois ans d'expérience dans la gestion de personnes ou de processus et travailler dans le secteur des médias – journaux imprimés ou numériques, radio et, dans certains cas, radiodiffusion.

WIN Leadership Accelerator is an intensive, nine-month long career and leadership programme for journalists and editors working in Africa, the Arab Region and Southeast Asia. The programme accepts 100-150 applicants, annually. At a dedicated World Bank Pavilion side event at COP28, the Global Youth Climate Network of the World Bank’s Youth-to-Youth Community announced, in collaboration with Connect4Climate, the continuation of the Max Thabiso Edkins Climate Ambassador Program and the launch of a brand-new call for applications! Max Thabiso Edkins was an amazing climate leader with a passion for empowering youth, and this program was conceived as an impactful way to honor his memory.

The MTECAP is a six-month online program that catalyzes youth climate leadership by enabling participants to: connect with one another; learn from World Bank experts and GYCN and C4C partners; and take meaningful climate action both in their communities and globally. A mix of technical and hands-on sessions equips ambassadors with in-depth knowledge and understanding of climate change as well as guidance on how to creatively communicate this knowledge for both local and worldwide audiences.

If you’re 18-35 years of age, fluent in English, plugged in to the internet, and passionate about taking local action for the planet, this could be the chance of a lifetime! If chosen as an ambassador, you’ll be asked to Learn new skills and strategies, Act in your community using the techniques you study, Network with the other ambassadors in your cohort, and Engage in good faith with all the training sessions and educational resources that will be available to you throughout the program.

By the end of the six months, each participant will be expected to have attended a specified number of learning sessions and implemented three concrete actions in their community. Meeting these criteria will entitle you to graduate, receive a certificate of completion, and join the burgeoning MTECAP alumni network!

Le Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) de la Banque africaine d'import-export et l'Association nationale des jeunes entrepreneurs du Portugal (ANJE) ont lancé un appel à candidatures auprès des créateurs de mode d'Afrique, des Caraïbes et de la diaspora pour participer au cinquième édition du programme phare, CANEX Presents Africa @ Portugal Fashion , qui aura lieu à Porto, au Portugal, du 12 au 16 mars 2024.

CANEX présente Africa @ Portugal Fashion  offre une plateforme pour le développement des créateurs de mode émergents, en soutenant le transfert de compétences grâce au mentorat d'experts de l'industrie, tout en offrant des opportunités d'accès au marché, pour stimuler la production, les ventes et la distribution. Le programme vise à doter les participants des compétences qui leur permettront de créer des entreprises financièrement durables avec un potentiel de croissance, ainsi qu'à les soutenir dans leurs stratégies de commercialisation et d'internationalisation.

Le programme a un format mixte, mélangeant des événements physiques avec des éléments numériques pour permettre des liens et des partenariats. Il est conçu pour accompagner une génération de talents débutants à intermédiaires, grâce à une approche personnalisée, pour se perfectionner et soutenir individuellement le développement et la reconnaissance des talents.

Depuis l'édition inaugurale qui a eu lieu en octobre 2021, 70 designers africains représentant plus de 25 pays du continent et de la diaspora ont participé au programme. Ils ont pu présenter leurs collections sur les podiums, ainsi que sur des plateformes d'exposition conçues pour faciliter les liens entre les designers et les acteurs de l'industrie, notamment la presse, les investisseurs, les fabricants et les acheteurs. En plus de présenter des plateformes, le programme comprend également des séances de mentorat et de réseautage entre les concepteurs et les principaux experts internationaux de l'industrie.

PRINCIPAUX CRÉATEURS DE PASSERELLES (5 EMPLACEMENTS)

Le principal défilé de la Portugal Fashion Week est une plateforme internationale ouverte aux créateurs et aux marques ayant produit au moins cinq collections de vêtements pour femmes, pour hommes ou unisexes. Le projet est ouvert aux designers et marques invités qui, en plus des critères généraux, répondent aux critères suivants :

• Fidèle de l'industrie avec au moins 5 ans d'expérience dans l'industrie.
• Compréhension claire du secteur de la mode et de sa chaîne de valeur.
• Approche innovante des défis de la confection de vêtements sur le continent.
• Prêt à accroître leur capacité de fabrication et à approvisionner les marchés mondiaux.

BLOOM CATWALK DESIGNERS (5 EMPLACEMENTS)

BLOOM Portugal Fashion est une plateforme pour les jeunes créateurs et est ouverte aux créateurs de moins de 35 ans, ceux qui ont réalisé au moins deux collections femme, homme ou unisexe et qui, en plus des critères généraux, répondent aux critères suivants :

• Pénétré récemment sur le marché (moins de 4 ans dans l'industrie).
• Cohésion et cohérence dans la conception et la fabrication.
• Engagement en faveur d'une conception indépendante, en adoptant et/ou en utilisant l'artisanat traditionnel et des méthodes de conception durables
• Produits appropriés, adaptés et commercialement viables.
• Démontrer le potentiel de croissance et d’échelle.

À propos de l’ANJE et de la mode portugaise

African Export-Import Bank’s Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) and Portugal’s National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE) have launched a call for applications from Fashion Designers from Africa, the Caribbean, and the Diaspora to participate in the fifth edition of the flagship programme, CANEX Presents Africa @ Portugal Fashion, to take place in Porto, Portugal from 12 to 16 March 2024.

CANEX Presents Africa @ Portugal Fashion provides a platform for the development of emerging fashion designers, by supporting the transfer of skills through mentorship from industry experts, while providing market access opportunities, to boost production, sales and distribution.  The programme aims to equip participants with the skills that will enable them to create financially sustainable businesses with the potential to scale, as well as provide support with go-to-market and internationalisation strategies.

The programme has a blended format, mixing physical events with digital elements to enable linkages and partnerships. It is designed to support a generation of entry to mid-level talent, through a customized approach, to up-skill and individually support the development and recognition of talent.

Since the inaugural edition that took place in October 2021, 70 African designers representing over 25 countries from the continent and diaspora have taken part in the programme. They have been able to showcase their collections on the runway, as well as on exhibition platforms designed to facilitate linkages between the designers and industry stakeholders including the press, investors, manufacturers and buyers. In addition to showcasing platforms, the programme also includes mentorship and networking sessions between the designers and key international industry experts.

2024 ANNUAL DESIGNER SELECTION CRITERIA

March Edition: FW24/25 collection

Target: 10 Fashion Designers

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

• Applicants should be based in Africa or in Diaspora (including the Caribbean).
• Designers should have developed a strong signature style and able to compete at an international level.
• Designers’ company must be registered, well established and have been in business for a minimum of 4 years.
• This programme is open to menswear and womenswear designers.

GENERAL ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Applications will be reviewed against the following criteria:

• Creative merit – applications need to demonstrate a coherent and strong aesthetic.
• Originality – a nouveau African approach to design and sustainability
• Commercial acumen, scalability, and innovation.
• Readiness to establish the brand to a global market.
• Proof of direct-to-consumer sales channels.
• Clear commitment to sustainability.
• Strong vision for the future of their brand with clearly defined business goals.
• Overall quality of the application.

Selected designers will fall in one of two Categories: Main Runway and Bloom Runway as below:

MAIN CATWALK DESIGNERS (5 SLOTS)

Portugal Fashion Week’s main catwalk is an international platform that is open to designers and brands who have produced at least five womenswear, menswear or unisex collections. The project is open to invited designers and brands, who, in addition to the general criteria, meet the following:

• Stalwart of industry with at least 5 years in the industry.
• Clear understanding of the business of fashion and its value chain.
• Innovative approach to challenges in garment making on the continent.
• Readiness to expand their manufacturing capacity and supply global markets.

BLOOM CATWALK DESIGNERS (5 SLOTS)

BLOOM Portugal Fashion is a platform for young designers and is open to designers under 35, those who have produced at least two womenswear, menswear, or unisex collections and who, in addition to the general criteria, meet the following:

• Recently penetrated the market (less than 4 years in the industry).
• Cohesiveness and consistency in design and fabrication.
• Commitment to independent design, adopting and/or using traditional crafts and sustainable methods of design
• Appropriate, suitable and commercially viable products.
• Demonstrate of the potential for growth and scale.

SUBMISSIONS AND SELECTION PROCESS

The Application must be submitted to the review panel in electronic format.

JUDGING PROCESS

• Applications will be reviewed and shortlisted by an independent panel of judges.
• The panel of judges includes international key industry leaders from academia, design, finance, manufacturing, media and digital.
• The selection process for applying to the “CANEX Presents Africa @Portugal Fashion” Programme will be carried out in two phases:

Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply you need to fulfil the following mandatory requirements:

• hold, or expect to hold, a Masters (or Diplom) degree in Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or (Bio)physics. All prior degree work must be finished before the PhD start date.
• demonstrate scholarly curiosity and an outstanding academic record.
• be able to show that your interests, skills and knowledge match well with your proposed area of doctoral research (see information on motivation letter below).

If you obtained your degree(s) OUTSIDE the European Higher Education Area we welcome if your application includes scores from the GRE General Test. In general, successful applicants have scored above 152 on the verbal test and above 155 on the quantitative test. Applicants with an Indian GATE score can also supply this instead of, or as well as, the GRE.

Required language skills

Successful candidates need to be fluent in written and spoken English and, unless native speakers, should document their proficiency in English. The students will collaborate in the integrated research training group (IRTG) associated with the CRC. We are looking for creative students with an interdisciplinary mindset to cover a broad range of scientific disciplines: physical chemistry, time-resolved (ultrafast) spectroscopy, colloid- and nanoscience, nanooptics, photochemistry, photophysics, polymer chemistry, theoretical physics, theoretical chemistry. The IRTG provides an outstanding research infrastructure including a large interdisciplinary network of researchers, state-of-the-art facilities, and funding opportunities for conference visits, summer schools, hosting international experts, and acquisition of soft skills.

The CRC aims at understanding the fundamental processes that focus light down to molecular length scales and that drive selective chemistry. Various reactions are powered differently by the collective charge oscillations in nanoscale metals known as plasmons, e.g. via charge transfer and/or local heating. The CRC 1636 will explore and establish new chemical pathways based on plasmon-assisted chemistry with the long-term aim to establish new materials and new synthesis methods.

United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), serves as the focal point for the UN’s work on youth. Within the Department, the Division for Inclusive Social Development, Programme on Youth Unit, coordinates the UN Youth Delegate Programme at the global level. Participation in decision-making is one of the key priority areas of the United Nations agenda on youth. One form of youth participation at the United Nations is through the inclusion of youth delegates in a country’s official delegation to the United Nations General Assembly and various functional Commissions of the Economic and Social Council. It is the responsibility of Member States to establish a youth delegate programme at the national level, and to decide who will represent the young people of their country at the United Nations.

The roles of a youth delegate varies from country to country, but normally includes providing input to their delegation on issues related to youth and participation in their delegation’s work, such as through attending meetings and informal negotiations.

Youth delegates can participate in several intergovernmental meetings at the United Nations. Most official youth delegates participate in the General Assembly, but some also attend functional Commissions of the Economic and Social Council.

How to become a Youth Delegate

Some countries have existing programmes to select youth delegates. You can inquire about whether or not your country has an established programme by contacting your respective Member State government body that may run such a programme: your Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Youth Council, or United Nations Associations wfuna.org/una-directory . If your country does not have a programme in place to select a youth delegate, your task will be two-fold:

• First, you have to persuade your country on the importance of having a youth representative in its delegation to the UN General Assembly. • And secondly, once they have established the position, the body overseeing the progamme will have to initiate a selection process.

Some steps you may consider include

• Determine whether or not your country currently has a youth delegate programme. If it does, inquire about how the application process works.
• If your country does not currently have a youth delegate programme, you will have to lobby to have one created. This can be done most effectively by working in cooperation with existing youth organizations in your country.
• Sometimes the process may work very quickly, and sometimes it may take a greater effort to have youth delegates become part of government policy.
• Review The United Nations Guide to the Youth Delegate Programme. It can also be used as a helpful tool to share with your Member State to establish a programme.
• Write to your Minister of Foreign Affairs (or equivalent), outline the merits of youth delegates, and offer to meet to discuss it further.
• Contact the Minister for Youth (or equivalent), senior public servants, the Ambassador to the UN, or even the Head of State.
• You might also try to get letters of endorsement from all of the above, plus key civil society leaders, national and international.

Youth delegates can participate in any intergovernmental meetings at the United Nations. Most official youth delegates participate in the General Assembly and attend functional Commissions of the Economic and Social Council but increasing official youth delegates have also participated in the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, the Commission on the Status of Women, the Human Rights Council and others.

Generally, this agenda item is considered in the Third Committee of the General Assembly during the month of October, however, this is subject to change based on the annual programmes of work adopted by Member States. Youth Delegates to the Commission for Social Development (CSocD)

The Commission for Social Development is a functional commission of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The body is in charge of the follow-up and implementation of the Copenhagen Declaration and Programme of Action of the World Summit for Social Development and meets annually in February for one and a half weeks. It covers key social development themes such as poverty, employment and social integration and the issue of youth falls within the latter.

A youth resolution is traditionally adopted every two years. Typically youth delegates that have been selected for the General Assembly also participate in the Commission for Social Development, since the work of the two bodies is closely interlinked.

Youth Delegates to High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF)

The HLPF is the main United Nations platform on sustainable development and it has a central role in the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the global level. The Forum adopts intergovernmental negotiated political declarations and meets annually under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (for eight days, including a three-day ministerial segment) and every four years at the level of Heads of State and Government under the auspices of the General Assembly (for two days). The Forum’s first meeting was held on 24 September 2013 and it replaced the Commission on Sustainable Development, which had met annually since 1993.

As part of its follow-up and review mechanisms, the 2030 Agenda encourages member states to “conduct regular and inclusive reviews of progress at the national and sub-national levels, which are country-led and country-driven” (paragraph 79). These Voluntary National Reviews are expected to serve as a basis for the regular reviews by the HLPF. As stipulated in paragraph 84 of the 2030 Agenda, regular reviews by the HLPF are to be voluntary, state-led, undertaken by both developed and developing countries, and shall provide a platform for partnerships, including through the participation of major groups and other relevant stakeholders. Increasingly, youth delegates participate in their country’s 2030 Agenda follow-up and review processes at the national level ahead of the Forum, and some are invited to present part of their country’s Voluntary National Review to the Forum.

Applications are open for the CIVICUS Digital Action Lab (DAL) 2024. The CIVICUS Digital Action Lab (DAL) initiative empowers civil society actors in countries facing restricted civic space, with the skills, resources and confidence to take effective action for inclusive democracy.

To cultivate real-world pilot projects that strengthen the organising, advocacy, and campaign capacities of participating civil society groups in the Global South, including via enhanced collaboration with local allies.

Requirements

• The Digital Action Lab (DAL) is open to civil society organisations from the Global South, that are actively involved in advancing inclusive democracy civic space.
• Organisations representing historically excluded groups, such as rural communities, indigenous peoples, women, youth, and the LGBT+ community, are encouraged to apply or be nominated, and will make up at least 50% of each cohort.
• DAL will also be prioritising organisations from countries with restricted civic space.
• The programme seeks collaborators who are committed to shaping and testing digital interventions to strengthen their organising, advocacy, and campaign capacities, or other organisational systems and capabilities which underpin this work

How it works

• DAL will use an open nomination and application process to select DAL cohorts of up to ten civil society organisations.
• Over a nine month period, these participants will work with the CIVICUS team, technical experts, and each other to develop a fully funded project which will be delivered in their local setting. Grants will range from $10,000 to $30,000 USD.
• Participants will also receive extensive coaching and additional non-financial support throughout the process, along with opportunities for engagement with wider networks and events.
• There will be three DAL cohorts between 2024 and 2026.

Washington, DC – Dance/USA, the national service organization for the dance ecosystem, invites applications for the Dance/USA 2024 Archiving and Preservation Fellowship Program from master’s degree students in library and information sciences and related fields as well as emerging archivists with relevant experience. The theme of this round of Fellowships, generously supported by funding from The Mellon Foundation, is Culture Bearers and Connectors.

The goal of the Archiving and Preservation Fellowship Program is to develop an engaged, passionate, and well-trained next generation of archivists in the dance ecosystem and to advance models for community-based archiving assistance to regional dance communities. Dance/USA invites applicants who are committed to advancing a more equitable and inclusive archives field that reflects and supports the true diversity of voices, practices, and identities within dance communities. Applicants should be interested in learning and applying archiving methods that are culturally sensitive and rooted in community practice.

Dance/USA will award four Fellowships for the Summer of 2024. The Fellows will work with the following dance organizations and artists: Cashion Cultural Legacy, Dianne Walker, LEIMAY, and The National Institute of Flamenco. The Fellowships will be in-person, virtual, or hybrid. Review the project descriptions on the Dance/USA website for details. The Nelson Mandela Award for Health Promotion was established in 2019 upon the initiative of the Ministers of Health of Member States of the African Region. It is awarded to individuals, institutions and/or governmental or nongovernmental organizations that have made a significant contribution to health promotion, as per the Statutes for the award. The Award aims at rewarding work that has extended far beyond the call of normal duties. In recognition of the humility of Nelson Mandela, the Award given to each laureate consists of a plaque. It is presented by the President of the World Health Assembly at a special ceremony during a plenary of the World Health Assembly, together with the Director-General of the WHO and normally a representative of the Nelson Mandela foundation.

Procedure for the proposal and selection of candidates Any national health administration of a Member State of the World Health Organization, or any former recipient of the award, may put forward the name of a candidate for the Award. Current and former staff members of the World Health Organization and current members of the Executive Board are ineligible to receive the Award. The nomination must be accompanied by a written statement of the reasons for proposing the candidate. The same candidature may be submitted several times if unsuccessful. Proposals are submitted to the Director-General of the World Health Organization, who submits them to the Award Selection Panel. The Award Selection Panel, in a private meeting, considers the candidates for the Award and proposes the name(s) of the recipient(s) of the award to the Executive Board. The proposal is considered by the Executive Board, which designates the recipient(s) of the Award.

Award Description

The University of Birmingham is pleased to announce the award of £4,000 for select Indian students applying for entry to an undergraduate programme at the University starting September 2024.

These are joint awards with our local representatives and high schools who will be invited to send nominations of the students to the university based on their year 12 scores and scholarship Statement of Purpose.

The scholarships will be awarded to the highest performing students starting their University of Birmingham programme in the 2024/2025 academic year.

Please note that the scholarship cannot be combined with any other award except for scholarships which are being offered respective School/College.

Value of Award

The scholarship award is £4,000 towards tuition fees (for the first year only) of a full-time undergraduate degree programme at the University of Birmingham UK campus, starting September 2024.

Eligibility Criteria

Students applying to MBChB Medicine and Surgery or BDS Dental Surgery are not eligible for this scholarship. Please note Law applicants can apply for additional scholarships offered by the Birmingham Law School

In order to be eligible, candidates must:

• Have received an offer and selected the University of Birmingham as their firm choice for a full-time undergraduate programme starting September 2024. The student must be entering the first year of an undergraduate programme based at Birmingham’s UK campus.
• Meet the academic conditions of their offer to the programme.
• Be classed as domiciled in India.
• Be classed by the University as an overseas fee payer for tuition fee purposes and be able to pay the outstanding tuition fees not covered by the scholarship.
• Have sufficient funds to cover the full cost of living at the University of Birmingham, plus any visa/travel expenses associated with studying in the UK.
• Start their studies at the University in September 2024 (the scholarship award may not be deferred).
• Be registered with, and have their undergraduate study application attached to, one of our local representatives listed below in alphabetical order.
• Submit your scholarship application through one of our local representatives by the deadline; 30 April 2024.
• Upon enrolment in September 2024, pay their net tuition fees for the first year by 1 November, immediately following enrolment.

How to Apply

To apply for the scholarship students will need to have accepted an offer from Birmingham, have selected Birmingham as their firm choice, and be in contact with one of our local representatives listed below by the scholarship deadline of 30 April 2024. Selection for the award will be based on academic merit.

Only under exceptional circumstances in which the University is unable to choose an awardee based solely on academic merit (for instance, if two candidates have identical grades) will applicants be asked to attend an online interview.

Decisions will be announced in early July and the scholarships will be awarded upon the students’ enrolment in September 2024.
