Who was Juan Rodés (1938–2017)? 
Dr Juan Rodés is known as the architect of the Liver Unit of the Hospital Clinic of the University of Barcelona, an internationally renowned centre for research in liver disease. He was one of the most inspiring and influential leaders in clinical hepatology and changed modern medical practice in Spain.

A great leader and thinker, Dr Rodés paved the way for bright young minds to come. Will you follow in his footsteps?

Your profile
You’re a young graduate firmly set on earning a PhD degree in basic, translational, or clinical hepatology. You already have an MSc, MD, or equivalent undergraduate degree to your name, equipping you to embark on a PhD (or you will graduate with one, within the next six months). You’re living anywhere in the world, but angling to study further at a European centre, different to the country of your home institution. By joining EASL, you’re committing to your future, to securing opportunities to shine, to forging change in your field, not to mention building relationships with your peers.

A snapshot of what this fellowship offers
Established in 2017, the Juan Rodés PhD Studentship, runs every year. It serves to meet the research and study needs of awardees. This three-year full-time fellowship provides:

• base funding of EUR 40,000 per year
• mobility allowance of EUR 500 per month
• family allowance of EUR 500 per month for eligible candidates
