HJF is seeking an Associate Director, Epidemiology to support the Center for Prostate Disease Research (CPDR) located in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to CPDR. This position requires US Citizenship.
The Associate Director, Epidemiology of the Epidemiological Core Provides oversight for research study designs and biostatistical analysis planning for all research staff. Contributes to idea development for novel abstracts for scientific conferences, manuscript development, and successful compete for peer-review funding. Oversight and management of the CPDR multi-center national database repository and its supporting staff. Generate and foster collaborations with pharma/industry partners as well as extramural academic institutions, including national consortia efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Initiates, designs, implements, and evaluates epidemiologic and translational research studies within the CPDR.
- Provides expert-level consultation regarding study design and statistical analysis planning, with interpretation of the research results and understanding of implications.
- Leads team of data analysts, data managers, and other epidemiologists.
- Leads, coordinates and assists with manuscripts and grant proposals. Develops new ideas, initiates independent high-impact research projects in the prostate cancer field.
- Functions as member of CPDR leadership team and helps in formulating priorities and policies to enhance the utilization and productivity of CPDR database and CPDR wide interdisciplinary translational research activities.
- Provides leadership and support for CPDR initiatives for developing research funding through grants.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor, including attendance and participation at national/international scientific conferences.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge and ability to use complex epidemiologic research methods for assessing cancer risk assessment; advanced knowledge in statistical software programming with experience in advanced statistical methods; knowledge of statistical software including SAS, SPSS, R, JMP Pro, PRISM, and/or Python; excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated experience with public speaking on scientific topics.
Minimum Education: Doctoral degree in epidemiology, public health or oncology.
Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: 6 – 8 years of relevant work experience.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct Supervisor with direct authority to make decisions on the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, starting salaries and merit increases; conduct employee performance evaluations and directs work activities.
Work Environment: Office.
Background: U.S. Citizenship required; eligibility to obtain and hold a Secret Security Clearance and a Common Access Card (CAC).
