The DFG-funded Research Training Group (RTG) 2721 is a consortium at Leipzig University, the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf / Research Site Leipzig (HZDR/RSL) and the Leibniz Institute for Surface Engineering (IOM). It spans the fields of analytical, inorganic, organic, physical, and theoretical chemistry, chemical technology and physics. The RTG’s central goal is training tomorrow’s workforce in emerging technologies that exploit the unique properties of the hydrogen isotopes, 1,2,3H, in order to contribute to revolutionising drug design strategies, converting radioactive waste into precious materials, and, in the long run, a CO2-emission-free energy supply for the planet.

RTG 2721 seeks to fill 11 positions at Leipzig University (LU) and 3 positions at HZDR starting 1 October 2024:

  • P1: Hydrogen adsorption on isolated clusters and nanoparticles (LU)
  • P2: Design of nanostructured materials for tritium capture (HZDR)
  • P3: Molecular framework materials with strongly attractive adsorption sites (LU)
  • P4: Modified zeolites for adsorptive separation of dihydrogen isotopes (LU)
  • P5: Characterization of adsorbants in porous materials by hyperfine spectroscopy (LU)
  • P6: Novel materials for DHI separation generated by soft-landing (LU)
  • P7: Investigation of hydrogen isotope penetration through thin membranes (LU)
  • P8: Fundamental understanding of hydrogen diffusion and sieving (HZDR)
  • P9: Photocatalytic deuteration & tritiation in batch and flow (LU)
  • P10: Electrochemical xH-labelling in microheterogeneously structured solutions (LU)
  • P11: A lab-on-a-chip platform for detection of T-species at microscale (LU)
  • P12: Benchmarking microfluidic T detection methods (HZDR)
  • P13: Isotopic fractionation in hydrogen-bonded clusters (LU)
  • P14: Quantifying hydrogen isotope effects on chemical bonding (LU)

Information on the specifics and requirements of each position can be found on the RTG’s website: https://www.uni-leipzig.de/123h/job-announcements.
