Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Advisor to the President for Inclusive Excellence and Equity Innovation Officer, the Senior Director of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) Educational Programs provides overall leadership and administration of the HSI STEAM education programming with CSU, regional, and CSUN partners. This campus leader develops, implements, and invests in growing promising practices that accelerate educational equity and innovation, leverage technology and collaborations with educational, community, and industry partners, and catalyze leveraging technology to scale, elevate and share promising practices in STEAM education to activate talent and build a more inclusive and diverse workforce.

  • Oversees all aspects of grant development and administration, including developing a call for proposals, implementing a grant application process, developing and managing an external grant review process, facilitating technical assistant sessions for prospective applicants, transitioning awardees to the post-award contracting process, ensuring regular communications and administration of contract terms, implementing grantee reporting, facilitating access to ongoing professional development opportunities and thought partners for grantees, elevating and sharing best practices, and leading a community of practice across the CSU.
  • Manages the day-to-day programmatic and fiscal operations for regional STEAM education programs and HSI Community Grant recipients and is responsible for effectively budgeting and managing program resources, achieving associated milestones, leading strategic planning and continuous improvement, and overseeing project effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in Public Policy & Administration, Education, STEM, or related field.
  • A record of at least five (5) years of progressive and successful experience in P-20 education administration, public sector leadership and/or non-profit management.
  • Professional experience in grant administration and/or project management including evaluation oversight.
  • Professional experience advancing institutional or organizational transformation initiatives, and equity centered student success initiatives.
  • Experience developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with multiple educational, public, governmental and community organizations.
  • Knowledge of barriers that limit participation for racially minoritized and first-generation students in higher education.
  • Outstanding facilitation and interpersonal communication skills including diplomacy, inclusion, listening, and consensus building to inform the decision-making process.
  • A strong record of commitment to and cultivation of equity, inclusion and student success and deep appreciation for the richly diverse student population that CSUN (and HSIs) serve.
  • Position involves frequent travel, use of technology, and flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing national, statewide, regional or campus wide programs for historically underserved and underrepresented students and communities.
  • Track record of successfully managing large scale complex projects with an institution-wide, regional, statewide or national impact and strategic activities around a shared vision for success.
  • Experience working with higher education institutions.
  • Outstanding written and verbal skills and the ability to convey complex data, information and concepts in accessible terms for a range of audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and integrating educational equity, access and STEM initiatives.
  • A high level of energy, focus and the capacity to effectively partner with a broad range of constituents.
  • Demonstrated success in leading a high-performing team and the willingness to serve as a motivator and mentor to staff while achieving goals.
  • Knowledge of IRB approvals and analytical tools to track and quantify equity outcomes.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • A valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable vehicle

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • Salary is commensurate with knowledge, skills, and experience. The University offers excellent fringe benefits.
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $140,000 – $150,000 per year, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
