First Call CIVIS3i Postdoctoral fellowship programme
CIVIS3i, The CIVIS Alliance Programme for International, Interdisciplinary, Intersectoral Research and Training for Experienced Researchers, is an Alliance program selected under the MSCA-H2020 COFUND for postdoctoral researchers, open to experienced researchers from all around the world, developed in the context of the European University CIVIS. Aix-Marseille University (France) coordinates the program, which gathers four recruiting universities belonging to the European University CIVIS, the five other CIVIS universities that offer co-advisors, training and secondments and 24 non-academic partners, who offer training and secondments.
The four recruiting universities are Aix-Marseille University (AMU, France), Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB, Belgium), Sapienza Universitá di Roma (SUR, Italy), Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM, Spain).
The associated partners are the 5 CIVIS universities: National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, University of Bucharest, Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, University of Stockholm, University of Glasgow; and the non-academic partners (please check the CIVIS3i website https://civis3i.univ-amu.fr/en).
Sixteen 24-month Postdoctoral Fellowships will be awarded to experienced researchers of any age or nationality (in possession of a doctoral degree or have at least four years of research experience) from the entire world in all fields of research, with a bottom-up approach, within the five CIVIS thematic hubs aligned with global societal challenges (see list below).
Candidates may choose to be hosted and develop their research at one of the alliance four recruiting universities (AMU, ULB, SUR, UAM), and mobility within the whole alliance (the nine universities + non-academic partners) will be facilitated. Fellows are required to include elements of intersectoral mobility and interdisciplinarity in their application, such as a 3-month secondment and short visits in one of the academic or non-academic partners, and a co-supervision at one of the 9 CIVIS Universities (For more information see the CIVIS website). Secondment provisions and co-supervision should be included at the proposal stage if possible; however, if such elements are not fully defined in the proposal, the laureates will be accompanied on these dimensions once selected. Fellows are expected to participate in outreach activities related to their research. The competitive fellowships are designed to further the education and training of the fellows with primary emphasis placed on the individual’s research promise, and to boost their future career inside or outside academia. The five CIVIS hubs, aligned with societal challenges, integrate multiple topics, giving the fellows the freedom to conduct research on a wide range of subjects, for instance:
− In Health: Nutrition and food; Ageing; Well-being; Epidemiology; Immunology; Public Health; Medical Studies; Neurosciences; Pharmacology; Sport and movement science
− In Climate, Environment, Energy: Geology; Oceanography; Biodiversity; Migrations and settlements; Sustainable energy; Climatology; Pollution; Astronomy.
− In Digital and Technological Transformation: Artificial Intelligence; New Media; Technologies & Engineering; Processes; Music; Learning; Sciences; Digitalization.
− In Society, Culture and Heritage: History; Literature; Sociology; Archaeology; Arts; Migrations; Religions; Philosophy; Political science; Languages.
− In Cities, Territories and Mobilities: Smart cities; Urbanism; Geography; Architecture; Transports; Logistics; Migrations; Governance.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible for a CIVIS3i postdoctoral fellowship, candidates must fulfil these two cumulative obligations:
– Candidates must be in possession of a doctoral degree or at least 4 years of full-time equivalent research experience (calculated according to the MSCA programme) by the call deadline. As a condition of the fellowship, candidates must be able to present their diploma, a certified copy of their diploma, or proof of minimum four years of full-time equivalent research by the call deadline (work contracts, employer certificate, scholarships, certificates, a career description), and optionally a certified letter from the appropriate university or research institute official stating that they have completed all of the requirements for their degree including the completion of their final thesis, before they begin their fellowship appointment. There is no age or nationality restriction. Please regularly check the Guide for applicants and templates available at the CIVIS3i website.
– Candidates must recruited by a CIVIS3i University (AMU, ULB, SUR, UAM) in a country where they have not resided or carried out their main activity for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the call deadline.
Application procedures
Candidates must present an ambitious research project (deadline 22 October 2021) that meets the three “I’s” of CIVIS3i: International, Interdisciplinary and Intersectoral. Applications are done via the CIVIS3i Application portal (see the “Apply” button). Candidates are invited to check the application and the evaluation guides prior to starting an application procedure. Communication with potential CIVIS3i advisors prior to applying is highly encouraged.
The application file will include the application form to be filled online on the CIVIS3i submission platform, A research and training proposal, a curriculum vitae in Europass format, an Ethics Issues Form and Self-Assessment, a copy of the PhD degree or certificate confirming that the PhD is fulfilled prior to the call deadline, or alternatively a career description proving at least 4 years of full-time research experience by the call deadline, including work contracts, employer certificates, etc., and a copy of their passport or identity card. Conditions offered
Successful candidates of fellowships can start their research appointment at the Institution of their choice as described in the proposal any time up to six months following the acceptance of the fellowship. Recipients of the 2021-2022 fellowships will receive a living allowance of 3 710€ per month, plus a fixed monthly mobility allowance of 300€ to cover moving expenses. In line with Horizon 2020 MSCA-IF and ITN practices, Country Correction Coefficients will be applied to provide a salary better adapted to the local conditions (see CIVIS3i website and Guidelines for applicants). An additional family allowance can be provided for researchers with family obligations before the call deadline. Each fellow will have a 15 000€ grant to cover research and training expenses (e.g., publication costs, travel and accommodation).
The Country Correction Coefficient is the one applicable to the country of the recruiting university and may suffer small changes on a year-by-year case. The living allowance is a gross amount, including compulsory deductions under national law, such as employer and employee social security contributions and direct taxes.
