At Master’s level, EPFL offers a limited number of fellowships to students with outstanding academic records.

Eligibility
  • EPFL offers a limited number of fellowships at the master’s level to students with outstanding academic records.
  • Anyone applying to an EPFL master’s program is eligible.
  • The selection of candidates and the granting of the fellowships are based on the evaluation of the academic records of the candidates.
  • The fellowship committee, comprising members of the EPFL sections representatives of the Associate Vice-Presidencies for Student Affairs and Outreach as well as for education and representatives from other school services, selects the candidates.
  • The selection process is very competitive, only about 3% of the master students receive such financial support.
Requirements
  1. External candidates (Bachelor’s degree from a university abroad).
  2. They should apply via the same online form as their application to a master’s program by April 15 or December 15 (there is a box to tick indicating that the candidate’s profile should also be considered for an excellence fellowship).
  3. There are no specific documents to be provided in addition to those required for admission to the Master’s.
  4. Internal candidates (Bachelor’s degree earned at EPFL)Sections might contact students to ask if they want to submit an application for an excellence fellowship.
  5. Students can also submit an application to their section by January 31 or April 30.
  6. The application should contain:
  • a CV
  • a motivation letter
  • 2 letters of recommendation from professors familiar with students’ work and achievements.
  • a transcript of all grades earned at EPFLInternal candidates (Bachelor degree earned at EPFL and switching to another field of study.

They should apply and provide the required documents via the admission form to a master’s degree(available on IS-Academia).

Coverage
  • CHF 10’000 per semester.
  • Reservation of a student room in a student residence.
  • A certificate of excellence (at the end of the master’s program).
  • Fellowship holders will be responsible to cover all expenses on their own (including rents).
  • The fellowship will be paid for 4 semesters maximum (3 semesters for a 90 credits master’s program), provided that the fellowship holder is registered as a regular EPFL student (see section 4.6).
  • No extension is possible, even in case the student decides to take a minor or for any other reason that might extend the duration of studies.
