MRC Postdoctoral Research Scientist Behaviour analytics and machine learning

MRC Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Behaviour analytics and machine learning

(3 Year fixed term)

£37,431- £40,272 pa inclusive*London, UK

Applications are invited for a 3-year postdoctoral research position at the MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences (LMS) at Imperial College London (http://lms.mrc.ac.uk/).

We have developed new technology for high-throughput behavioural screening and quantitative phenotyping that we are now using to discover neuroactive compounds in natural products and to repurpose existing drugs to treat rare genetic diseases. This position would give you access to rich datasets that are an ideal testbed for developing new methods for behaviour analytics with real biological impact.  You will also work closely with experimentalists to put your methods into practice and follow leads that come out of analysis work.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative scientist with a PhD and a knack for quantitative data analysis. Good coding skills are essential, previous work with Python and OpenCV is desirable.  Experience with machine learning (including deep learning), image analysis, and tracking would also be an asset. Other members of the team have backgrounds in genetics, physics, neuroscience, and engineering. Your particular path is less important than your desire to learn and work on interesting problems.

The Behavioural Genomics lab is a friendly interdisciplinary team headed by Dr André Brown in the Quantitative Biology section of the LMS. For more information, see the group’s website at https://tierpsy.com/.

Keywords: Machine learning, Python, computer vision, phenotypic screening, neuroscience, pharmacology

The post is an MRC Postdoctoral Scientist position providing training and development supporting post-doctoral scientists in early or changed career paths helping establish them as successful research scientists in their chosen field. We offer a highly attractive benefits package including competitive salary, excellent holiday entitlement and final salary pension scheme.
