Program overview

The future challenges of biology will require new generations of creative thinkers dedicated to fighting the unknown. Research has shown that teams with diverse perspectives are best suited to progress on such challenges. This will require recruiting the next generation of excellent scientists with diverse backgrounds, interests and strengths.

To make it easier to recruit the next generation of excellent scientists, we offer a PhD in Biology preview program. Our program aims to provide workshops to build on the strengths of prospective students and encourage students to apply for PhD programs in Biology, as well as to help students identify programs that match their goals and interests. In addition to workshops focused on harnessing your strengths as a scientist in graduate schools, we will cover general aspects of application to doctoral programs in biology. We will also provide an overview of the application process for programs ranging from cell, molecular and organism biology to ecology and evolution.

Selected applicants will be invited to participate in two days of activities aimed at building their strengths as scientists and future graduate students, facilitating the application process, connecting with faculty and receiving individual guidance on applications. and interviews. The schedule of last year’s events is available below.

Please note that participation in this preview program is not a requirement for potential Stanford Biology applicants, nor a guarantee of acceptance into the doctoral program.

Please direct any questions about the program or application to the Preview Program Committee:  preview-stanfordbio@lists.stanford.edu  .
